Welcome to The "Eh" List, a roundup of stories I read but then lost interest in as yesterday afternoon wore on. Its original title was "Things We Couldn’t Bring Ourselves to Care About," but that would have negated itself once it was posted for all the world to see, links and everything, and I try not to be a liar on the Internet. In real life, if I lie I can just take it back right away, but editing a PopWatch post involves multiple steps, multiple people (ew), and is therefore a way bigger hassle. I know what you’re thinking: Zzzzzzzz. I know. Happy Friday!
-Posh & Becks (pictured) will invade America. He signed "the biggest deal in global sport history" to play with Los Angeles’ Galaxy. Will this make soccer popular in the States? And what will this mean for our great nation? Kidding — I just wanna see how much tackier California can make the retired Spice Girl.
-Laura Innes talks about leaving ER after 11 seasons in a very cool, down-to-earth interview. Awww. Four or five years ago, I would have cared a lot, but at this point, eh. I recorded a few eps this fall to see if the reunion of Freaks and Geeks’ Kim Kelly and Lindsay Weir (Busy Philipps and Linda Cardellini, who now work together on ER), would be funny. It wasn’t. Sniff.
-The city of Chino, Calif. doesn’t care that The O.C.’s been canceled. For real? This is a story? Who cares what Chino thinks?

Well I care about the Beckhams moving to LA. Maybe it will make soccer more popular in the media here, where it’s basically been ignored except for one HBO special. Plus, David Beckham is a beautiful man and this means more pictures of him, and how can that be a bad thing?
Seconded, Maeve. More pictures of David Beckham is a wonderful thing…so long as he avoids hats like the one in the picture accompanying this article. Zoiks, yo.
I agree with the agree-ers. I was super excited to read Becks is coming to America. He’s even yummier than David Krumholtz!
I am excited that I will finally have the opportunity of seeing Beckham play. Anything that can raise the profile of soccer here in the States is a good thing.
If you don’t care about these topics, then can EW please put a ban on anything involving TomKat, Paris Hilton, Brangelina and Lindsay Lohan? Because we don’t care about those topics!
At the risk of sounding stupid, I didn’t even know we had soccer teams. Sorry. I watch football, baseball, golf and NASCAR.
Also, the times I have seen soccer on TV, I found it incredibly boring.
hmm so being interested in “(american) football, (american) baseball, golf and (w. trashy- american) NASCAR” is quite exciting! Well pull up that couch and open up that can of beer for me because ah’m ready for mah sports!
Hello-anyone who can artfully explain to me how baseball is remotely interesting or exciting especially compared to one of the most riveting sports to watch- soccer/ football- must be some sort of genius.
Baseball has to be one of the dullest, slowest, least interesting inventions ever made in the world.
I didn’t know we had professional soccer teams either! I haven’t cared about ER in about 7 years and Laura Innes’ character was never one I liked anyway.
oh boy, Becks and AnorexiaSpice are invading Los Angeles. whoop. Is there room for two more over-rated, self-obsessed people in LA? How could that be so?
Bec, seeing as how EW couldn’t even put a ban on topics they don’t care about, I’m not sure if that request is going to fly.
I agree with la la. I just don’t get how Soccer could be so unpopular in the US. I hope Beckham could change that. As for Innes leaving ER, I have been a fan of that show since the very beginning, but never cared much for her, I’ll stop watching ER when/if Goran Visnic (Luka) leaves. I looooove him.
Beckham is loved outside of the US, but in the US people still say “Sexy spice married WHO?”
We’ve already had a few million attempts to make soccer popular in this country (World cup comes to the USA, DC United Signs a 14 year old wunderkid, blah blah blah), all have failed.
We don’t have patience for a game where the scores are frequently 0-0, the clock goes the wrong way, and the players are a bunch of sissies who can’t even handle a headbutt without it causing an international scandal. It’s fun to watch suburban kids to play fútbol, but as a pro sport it’s more fun to watch the hooligans in the stands than the “action” on the field.
Ep: I find your comments about football (yes I say footbal) quite disparaging. It requires a lot more skill as a pro than a lot of the American professional sports. Don’t knock it because a lot of people in this country may have short attention spans or are more interested in sports where taking steroids get you ahead.
It’s hard to respect what a magazine thinks is relevant and what isn’t when they didn’t consider the death of James Brown cover worthy. Apparently the American Idol judges have played a bigger part in the history of music.
Also, if I were David Beckham and making 50 million a year, there’s no way in hell I’d be tied down to one woman, especially a freakin Spice Girl.
Yeah Ep, but you’re forgetting that the action off the field is caused by fans overly involved in the sport, which is something that does not exist in America. No one cares about soccer (or futbol) beyond third grade. I would hope that Beckham – as big as he is everywhere else – would change that. I just find it disheartening that the biggest sport in the entire world is one that garners the LEAST respect in the US. I mean, synchronized swimming gets more attention than soccer. And THAT is just sad.
It’s a lot simpler than most people here are making. Americans care most about football, basketball, baseball and even NASCAR because they are sports that either originiated or came to great prominence in our country…they’re “ours”. With apologies to Mr. Bend It, if signing Pele (still today, the biggest soccer star EVER) to a pro-contract a few decades ago didn’t change this country’s attitude toward soccer, nothing will.

i’m very excited that posh and becks are coming and cannot wait to go see the galaxy.
As someone who grew up in Chino (Ew!) and as a devoted Popwatch fan, I was thrilled to find a link to Chino’s reaction to The OC’s cancellation! Who knew Chino would ever be famous (or is it infamous?)?! I was never offended by Chino’s portrayal in the show, though I did defend it. There are reasons I left and ended up in NYC, but I appreciate the shout-out to my home town! Thanks!
I too was primed for a Freak and Geeks reunion with Kim and Lindsay, but it’s ER, and I’m not sure they like having fun anymore.
Not a chance that Posh and Beck will make soccer popular. For about 3 months star watchers will book tickets to see Beck and hope Posh will be in the stands. But his presence isn’t enough to make real sports fans start watching soccer.
such a nice couple
i m very proud
