For the first time, the MTV Movie Awards will air live on June 3, and be exec produced by Survivor’s Mark Burnett. According to reports, he’ll keep the popular movie spoofs and cheeky categories like "Best Kiss," but aims to add a sense of spontaneity to the telecast, which has been bleeding viewers in recent years.
"Many awards shows would have a heart attack if anything for a minute went slightly out of place, playing someone off if their speech goes too long," he told the Associated Press. "It’s MTV – they’ll have other stars come and drag them off the stage." Yep, sounding more spontaneous already! Hey, why not have Burnett’s Apprentice star Donald Trump come on and tell overly talky winners, "You’re fired"? Man, that’d be a hoot!
Now, I love Mark Burnett as much as the next reality TV whore, but I can’thelp feeling that 1) he’s overestimating how candid celebrities arewilling to be at an awards show that doesn’t get them liquored up likethe Golden Globes and 2) though he’s a master at screwing with people,the editing of his shows plays no small part in their success.
What do you think PopWatchers: Can the MTV Movie Awards be saved? And is Burnett the guy who can save them?

Mark Burnett is producing the MTV movie awards? Does that mean to win the nominees will have to scale a cliff or build huts? In past years, all they had to do was show up?
If Rob&Big were to host the awards, they’d be worth seeing. MTV’s been kinda lame these last few years, with only Rob&Big, WonderShowzen and perhaps Where my Dawgs representing their most original programming. Not a good sign.
Live for the first time? Weren’t they live originally? Or at least for the first few installments?
I agree that the broadcast has been terrible in the last few years because pre-taping has sucked all the spontaneity out of it. Especially when the internet reports the winners 5 days before it airs.
The fact that they’re going live this year and bringing in an outsider’s perspective might actually get me to watch! At least the movie spoofs are usually good.
The movie spoofs are classic and in recent years, the only thing worth watching. I think MTV is battling an onset of viewers jumping over to You Tube to catch the important parts, while ignoring the telecast altogether. Maybe airing LIVE will allow for that spontaneity the show has lacked. But then again, getting a decently funny host would help too. I’ve just been completely jaded by anything MTV does lately. I mean, they have the VMAs every year, but how can a network that now longer shows music videos be expected to properly judge and award winners accordingly? Let’s face MTV has sucked when it decided to unwrittenly drop the ‘M’ from ‘T’ and ‘V’.
Well he should be coming off his world tour right about THAT time, so MTV would do well to lock up Justin Timberlake as the host of the Mtv Movie Awards, like, ummm NOW. I mean lets be real. he’s sure to be nominated for his Best New Breakthrough Performance in this weekend’s ALPHA DOG, eventhough technically he was in that EDISON FORCE, but that went straight to dvd, & hardly anyone I even know has seen it. He’ll be onto another single, by then, which is Jive is any bit intelligent wil go with the dancefloor ready, “LoveStoned”, so he could also perform on the show, and if there are STILL any haters left doubting my suggestion, Go to YouTube and watch the “D%(k IN THE BOX” video..AGAIN!!! There ya go Mtv, I’ve just given you one really great suggestion on how to SAVE the Mtv Movie Awards!
