PopWatchers, it’s time for me to make an Old Year’s Resolution: I vow that for the remainder of 2006, I will not post another item about American Idol‘s season 3 champ Fantasia Barrino.
But wait! Before I do, let me direct you to this Very Special YouTube link: Diana Ross and the Supremes performing one of their jauntier hits, "The Happening," on the Ed Sullivan Show. If the opening horns sound mighty familiar, it’s because they’ve been utilized by Fantasia herself as the backbone of her hot new single, "Hood Boy" (click here if you haven’t heard it), which rises this week to No. 26 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Hopefully, that’s solved the burning question of ‘Tasia’s sample source for some of you.
As for what space-age product Miss Ross used to activate that wicked flip of hers, I fear that a diva never reveals the tricks to her tresses. And if she did, she’d probably have to kill you.

“The Happening” hasn’t aged well…it’s about the only Supremes song I can’t stand. Fantasia took it and made it her own, though. I love that song!
No! Don’t stop the Fantasia postings! Please! Stop the Studio 60 bashing postings instead!
This is memorable. The song was not great, but to compare Mcscreechy to Diana Ross is just stupid! Diana Ross could have used a better wig.
I love “The Happening”! Yes, Fantasia’s song is very catchy, but I’m still not a fan of her.
wow that was painful to watch. what an awful song.
Wow. I never knew that was a Supremes song. Man, do I feel dumb. But I love what Fantasia did with those opening horns. I love Hood Boy. Really great song.
