I guess it makes sense, if you’re going to make a very special episode of Desperate Housewives from the men’s point of view, to use Rex Van De Kamp (Steven Culp, pictured, with Marcia Cross and Hunter Allen) as your deceased narrator. Still, do we really care about the men’s perspective on DH? Do the guys on this show have rich inner lives that have gone previously unexplored? Except for the mysterious Orson (and maybe the amnesiac Mike), probably not. Much as I would enjoy watching unlikely bachelor-pad roomies Mike and Carlos throwing a beer blast, I wonder what the deceased Rex can tell us about the lives of Wisteria Lane’s men. Any predictions?

Ugh, does that mean Rex is really dead?
It would make the show more interesting if another ‘dead’ voice narrated.
BTW, IMO there are just too many murders on this show.
Are the people that watch this show really that easily entertained? I don’t watch and now I realize why.
This show has been going downhill ever since Season 2. It just really hasn’t had the same comedic and witty writing. I don’t know if its a different relationship between the women after the various award shows or what. The chemistry and writing is off.
Granted I am a die-hard and still TiVo the show, but I find myself fast-forwarding through parts of the episode these days.
I’m gonna stick up for the guys on this show.
I definitely get sick of watching Susan’s character get run into the ground, Gabrielle stabbing somebody in the back and being selfish, etc.
Also, some of the men on this show are actually pretty great. I LOVED Steven Culp as Rex (thought he had great chemistry with Marcia Cross), and I think that Doug Savant and Ricard Chavira do GREAT work opposite Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria, respectively. Orson’s character has become more interesting and layered lately. That being said…James Denton sucks (esp. this year!), and I’m still waiting for him to wake up from his coma…what? he’s awake?! couldn’t tell.
I heard about this and I think it’s a great idea. The fans have been asking for a Rex voice over since the end of season 1 so I’m glad Marc Cherry has listened.
Well maybe we’ll finally get to know more about Andrew. If only for that, it’s exciting!
i miss rex and would definitely like to see him again. i also would love to see what tom says to himself when lynette is ripping him a new one.
I always feel like Tom has a lot more on his mind than he’d say with around the Huffster
Wow, Gary Susman, I can’t believe you’re dismissing this episode based only on the concept (which I think is a great idea). It’s one thing to preview an episode before it airs to give us your opinion, but it’s not very fair to ASS/U/ME that it won’t hold your interest.
I didn’t realize this episode is on the way, but now I’m very much looking forward to it! Give it a chance, eh?
Personally, I think out of the three seasons Steven Culp was the best male actor in the show…it would be a great episode having him narrate something, the flashbacks on the show have proven to be great episodes.
I think it would work if they dip a little into self-parody with it, which, honestly, wouldn’t be that hard for this show.
I loved Rex so much. And I also love Tom and Carlos now. I think the idea for the ep is genious. And I hope Orson’s not all bad since Kyle plays him so likeable. Though if he really did kill that parrot, I’m through with him.
