I will be unhappy if United 93 gets nominated for Best Picture. It was too early to trample on those people’s graves. September 11 means different things to different people, but I think we should give the victims and their families some peace for a good while. Thank God the Democrats finally won an election. Bush has only used 9/11 for his selfish political motives. And this movie was only used for selfish monetary reasons by the producers.
Leonardo DiCaprio is the actor of the year — he should have won two years ago for THE AVIATOR when Jamie Foxx dominated everything short of the golden globe. He should win this year for pulling in two great and different performances. I’m afraid that when nominations come out that he might cancel himself out since the Oscars do not allow actors, but do allow directors, to be nominated twice.
j-dub, survey says, you’re an idiot.
just kidding. no, not really. the way you wrote, i thought you were a republican.
United 93 was a powerful film. Can anyone tell me when the first war movie about Vietnam happened? Was it too soon? I don’t understand this mentality. Yes, it was a terrible situation, but if the audience is ready to deal with it, then how can it be ‘too soon’?
I was in NYC on the Sept. 11th, and I think it is necessary for everyone who was not there, to go see United 93… (i thought WTC movie was too melodramatic) but I was touched beyond words by United 93, it was bold, it was touching, and it served to remind me of that day in a way that made me remember what I decided my life would be about from that moment forward. United 93 is one of the best movies of the year, any year.
Whoever said Leo’s trying too hard to establish himself as a serious actor… I think it’s already been established that Leo is a serious actor. This Boys Life, Basketball Diaries, Marvins Room, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?, Romeo + Juliet, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, etc are all roles that require a serious actor. Titanic or Catch Me if You Can are probably his least serious role he has ever done in a major film and received acting award nominations for both. Anyways, I don’t think Leo needs The Departed or Blood Diamond to establish anything that most people don’t already know. I think he is way overdue for an Oscar.
And whoever was going on about United 93 being all about money … as I understand it, the families all gave permission for the film so you should at least respect that. And there are far many more reasons to make a film than money.
As long as Catherine O’ Hara (For your Consideration), and “Little Miss Sunshine” get noms, I could care less.
Hey, my rainbow glasses might be glued on at this point, but I stick by my assertion that Leo is a great actor who deserves more recognition for it beyond the praise he gets for his looks.
