So, ya caught me, PopWatchers: evidently, I don’t read my own magazine, or the website associated therewith. It’s true. Sad but true. And so, when I wrote a long rant about Aaron Sorkin (pictured) not using real displaced New Orleans jazz musicians in Studio 60 last night, you appropriately called me an idiot and corrected me. (A clip of their performance is here. Want to help them? Click here.) My apologies to all involved. It won’t happen again. Jeez, this is embarrassing. And I hadn’t even been drinking.
Anyway, my sincere apologies for the mishap, Aaron. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

I’m still waiting for Aaron Sorkin to apologize to me for wasting an hour of my life. I will never get that time back.
I’d rather see Jordan be pregnant than have her hide behind large bags, coats, chairs, and plants for the rest of the season.
Um, I don’t think apologies really stand when you lash out at the end of them. That’s called passive agression. You should get that checked.
Audiences to Studio 60 were down 14% last night (according to televisionweek.com).
Whitney, I think you’re the least of his problems.
Give it a rest, Whitney. We know you don’t like it. Besides, Amanda Peet is pregnant and I agree with step that the whole hiding the pregnancy thing is stupid.
I dVRed the second episode which I kept. There is a line that applies to Nick and all the other Studio 60 bashers: “Can someone go over there and change the channel for them?”
Let us enjoy Studio 60. A lot of us do. Go after the Law & Orders. Attack King of Queens or According to Jim. Criticize Saturday Night Live, please.
Just lay off, Studio 60.
it’s ok, whitney. you’re still my favorite EW writer.
I gave up on S60, but the buzz on last night’s episode was strong enough that I decided to give it one more try. UGH. It’s bad enough that Sorkin has pretentions that he’s so smart, as he denigrates the origins of Christmas, but, as I wrote earlier, he doesn’t even understand the difference between the Immaculate Conception and the Incarnation. People who think they’re growing IQ points watching him are like lemmings jumping off a bridge.
Mike, Studio 60 was supposed to be the “can’t miss hit” of the Fall Season and it hasn’t turned out that way. That’s why some of us enjoy mocking it. Nobody wastes time bashing According to Jim because it was never sold to the public as the smartest show on television. If we can’t make fun things like this, what would be the point of Pop Watch.
Dan-you really make me sad. Its funny how you say wasting time is bashing according to jim. bashing anything relentlessly is wasting time. don’t you have any other extracurriculars?
It is not wasting time bashing something relentlessly as long as (a) said show is still on the air and (b) fans of said show are under delusions that it is smart television.
What is wasting time is watching S60.
Ugh…I flipped on S60 last night for 10 minutes (I had given up watching long ago) and still found it smug.
S60 so desperately wants to show the audience “look, I’m smart, see everybody…I’m really smart”…but smart as it may be, it’s still *yawn* boring.
can’t people just enjoy a show for what it is? I don’t go to Studio 60 to gain intelligence, I go because its nicely written, involving television.
this idea you have to lead people to the “right way” is potentially dangerous is applied to real life. I can picture you mocking people that you consider to be a part of the wrong religion. let people do as they please and don’t make them feel like utter crap for liking what they like. I think even people who dislike Studio 60 would agree to that. you aren’t achieving anything.
I told you that you guys need a fact checker. Where should I send my resume?
Dan-Maybe you can miss Studio 60, but it’s my one can’t-miss show of the season. I also think it’s ludicrous to lump on Aaron Sorkin because the media hyped the show like crazy. It’s not like he knocked on your door himself and told you Studio 60 was going to be your TV soulmate.
Nick-Did Aaron Sorkin come to your house and force you to watch for an hour at gunpoint or something? Sorry, but you wasted your own time, especially if you spent a whole hour watching something you probably realized 15 minutes in you didn’t like. Even if you gave it the full hour out of charity, it was still your call.
Where exactly is this rant of which Whitney speaks? Anyone have a link?
Studio 60 lovers, unite! I have a proposition: stop responding to haters who have nothing better to do with their time than come on these threads and give us crap. Just ignore them. Keep posting about the show–just don’t act like we have to defend ourselves to people whose only goal is to rile us up. It’s the schoolyard bully theory; it’s reactions they want (and we’re giving them to ‘em). When their antagonism falls on deaf ears, maybe they’ll turn their Grinchy attentions to puppy-kicking or stealing Christmas from spirited little towns.
I’m totally serious here. It’ll be tempting to retaliate, but be the bigger person.
I agree with Madeleine. I find Studio 60 incredibly smug and pompous. Now, I’m not a dumb person, it’s not like a watch “War At Home” or anything like that, but Studio 60 is just dripping with sanctimonious dialogue that nobody EVER says in the real world.
I liked the West Wing, and Aaron Sorkin’s style worked with that show and it was a very politically engrossing show. But set in the world of Late night comedy, it doesn’t work. It’s painfully smug and smarmy and conceited.
So don’t feel bad Whitney, the show sucks so they deserve the criticism.
Al, if people make negative comments about a show you like, it’s not because they want a reaction, or they’re trying to start trouble, or they’re bullies. It’s because they don’t like the show and they want to say why, just the way you like the show and you want to say why. It’s hard when people criticize something we like, but when they do it, it’s not usually just to make people upset. You’ll have to learn to live with that.
Okay, that was a forthright apology, Whitney. Good for you. Just don’t let it happen again.
So,will you be back to your Sorkin/Studio 60 bashing again next week? And can someone please explain to me why the posters here who seem to feel such intense hatred for this show apparently still sit down to watch it week after week, just to express their contempt the next day on message boards? When I dislike a show, I just stop watching it. I don’t post messages about it, or try to convince others how bad it is. I just ignore it and watch something else. Maybe some of you can try that for a change, and give us a break from your whining.
McGee, if people make negative comments about a show you like, it’s not because they want a reaction, or they’re trying to start trouble, or they’re bullies. It’s because they don’t like the show and they want to say why, just the way you like the show and you want to say why. It’s hard when people criticize something we like, but when they do it, it’s not usually just to make people upset. You’ll have to learn to live with that.
L-O-V-E Studio 60!
what is wrong with you people?!
Mirelle — The people who angrily post are often those that really, really, really miss “The West Wing” — Sorkin fans who miss the first four seasons of the show, who gave up soon after the MS scandal died down, and who hoped that him remaining at the helm of “Studio 60″ meant the return of West-Wing style TV. Personally, I think anywhere Bradley Whitford is is home to me, so we really can’t complain. Plus a Matthew Perry that not only makes you laugh, but makes you want to kiss him, is worth it.
Jess, I was never a West Wing fan.
Cancel Studio 60.
“Can someone go over there and change the channel for them?”
I did. Haven’t watched Studio 60 for weeks and won’t be returning. That doesn’t mean I don’t like bashing the show, and it’s not to get a rise out of you Sorkin sycophants. It’s just that I want the space open for “Medium,” which would be a better fit with “Heroes.”
Plus I just hate Studio 60. Cancel it!
Of course we can change the channel. We do. I don’t watch Studio 60 anymore.
But it’s still frustrating to see such a lousy show not only get support from its network (NBC) but also be gushed over by EW ad nauseum, when other better shows have been cancelled.
Where were you people when “The Nine” needed support? There’s a good show that got cancelled, so yes, it’s frustrating to see Studio 60 still on the air.

Welcome to the idiot club! Your club membership materials are being sent out now. Enjoy!
Hey Nellie, why the hate? I guess it’s appropriate since, like Aaron Sorkin, you seem to hate those who think differently than you. I guess intolerance for those who hold different ideals is the true mark of the intelligentsia. I’ll be sending you your “Thought Police” membership forms asap.
Cancel Studio 60.
Lighten up Nellie. You know who else likes to beat up on “simpletons” who must be too dumb to like his show? Matt Albie. You know who else? Aaron Sorkin. All right everybody, don’t bother Nellie. Let’s not have a free exchange of ideas on this message board.
Don’t let them get you down, Nellie. I like you. Sieg Heil!
