NBC picks up '30 Rock'for a full season!

Filed under: Television and tagged:

Page your friends on their beepers: NBC announced it has picked up 30 Rock for the rest of the 2006-7 season! The show delivered its highest ratings yet (6.6 million viewers) in its first Thursday run last night — third place in its time slot, but still an impressive showing.

I’m thrilled. This show’s just flat-out funny, and it says a lot that at 11 p.m., when I scrolled through my DVR/life partner’s daunting list of nine recordings, 30 Rock was one of the only two I had to watch right away. It probably wasn’t urgent — it’s not like any of my friends would IM me about what happened the next morning. Maybe they will in the coming weeks. Friends, tune in! All I know is I needed to watch a show involving fake face tattoos, a porn-star burn victim masqerading as a woman, and "crappy" deli sandwiches. (I’m with Liz Lemon — there’s nothing wrong with a turkey sub. It just works.)

Who else is psyched?

also Tracy Morgan’s DUI/DWI may have helped- yeah!
Live every day like it’s Shark Week

Very pleased. This show started a little off, but has consistently improved each week. Not to mention that I will include Alec Baldwin (yes, Worfress Arec Barwin) on my all-Thursday Best Supporting Actor Emmy slate. Now Annie, do yourself a favor and make sure you’re taping Scrubs immediately before 30 Rock. It needs you just as much.

I do love “30 Rock”…I never really got into “Scrubs,” but that is a good two hours of TV!

Super-psyched! I just discovered 30 Rock (and downloaded the eps from itunes) and it’s SO FUNNY. The writing is sharp, the acting is spot-on (especially Baldwin and Tracy Morgan), the jokes are funny. It’s such a breath of fresh air. Now can someone just please explain to me why My Name is Earl is funny? I tried to watch it last night and just couldn’t.
Baldwin better not just get nominated, but actually GET the Emmy.

Technically it’s the show second Thursday run, if you count the supersized episode two weeks ago.
That aside, I agree… Hilarious! Sorry “Supernatural”, “CSI” and “OC,” but I’m sticking with NBC and ABC….

I actually started watching it lately and it is pretty good. They have a really awesome block of 4 shows on Thursdays now. My Name is Earl just is what it is. I think if you have ever lived that kind of lifestyle (like the characters in the show) then its very funny and you can totally relate. Its also more entertaining then funny I suppose.

The show is great and Baldwin is dead on funny.
Anyone else find Tina Fey singing a song from Annie as hysterical as I did….I amnot even sure why! They need to give Judah Friedlander more to do!

The best part was Liz singing along to “Annie” while she worked. That totally cracked me up.

Also, I really loved My Name is Earl last season, but this season it’s seems a little off. Kinda…preachy.

Agreed with the person who said the show’s improved with every week. It’s finally hitting a great stride with Alec Baldwin, Pos-Mens (“I don’t date guys who don’t drink Snapple”), everyone’s pathetic dating life (“you don’t get to give advice on relationships. You sent a letter to Scott Peterson”), the cameos by Rachel Drach, and the constant in-jokes have had me re-watching each episode several times to see what I missed out on the first time.
As for Earl, he and his crew are all just goofy dufooses. His ex wife is hilarious, and I love the humor behind Catalina. I also dig that a show all about rednecks goes to show just how diverse that culture truly is.

My favorite highlight was Liz consistently getting lettuce in her hair. That and classic Baldwin: “I’m expecting a call from 1983.”

  • Lynny

I absolutely love 30 Rock and Tina Fey is so great. My only question is when will they completely get rid of Jane Krakowski’s character. I like Jane and all, but her character is just annoying and almost completely peripheral to the real action of the show. She just distracts me. Anyway, other than that, Alec, Tracy and Tina make happy and I love Kenneth. The grouping for Thursday night is definitely an improvement!

Tracy flipping out over being called “normal” was priceless. “YES, I STEAL DOGS!” Oh, how I love 30 Rock! Thank you, NBC, for giving it a chance, and for pairing it with other hilarious shows.
Also, My Name is Earl is far from being dumb. It’s actually a pretty clever show, if you ask me. I love it. Especially Joy. “I remembered something else I punched! A Santa Clause beggin’for money!”

Josh, you are correct. However, last night did mark “30 Rock”‘s debut on Thursday in the 9:30 slot, which (let’s hope) will become its permanent home. NBC seems to have considered the sweeps-stunt supersize slate two weeks ago to be a warm-up for the debut last night of the network’s new ’90s-style Thursday night four-comedy line-up, which now includes “Scrubs” as well.
