t3hdow-
I'm not 100% sure, but I heard from several different places over the years that the other 3 actors from Seinfeld basically were dumb enough to sign contracts that didn't entitle them to royalties from the show. That is indeed why after the show ended they immediately went on to other sitcoms (many other sitcoms), while Jerry Seinfeld just chilled with his bucks.
Either way, a responsible person would at least research that fact before boycotting the show. I seriously doubt it would cost Michael Richards money.

You were so right. Everybody should read that article by John Ridley. People who think they are being empowered by going ballistic when they are called names are actually turning all of their power over to the name callers.
Seriously - check out this article.

I'm surprised. I thought the show would suffer, but I guess not. The Christmas shopping theory also works.
To blah:
Are you serious? I thought every major actor of any syndicated show earned royalties, not just Larry David and Seinfeld. Well, that puts an interesting spin on things. I guess that explains why Dreyfus, Alexander and Richards was hard up for work post-Seinfeld. It would also make the DVD boycott absolutely pointless, since buying it puts no money in Richards's pocket.
Although it is a little weird to see Kramer now, knowing the rant Richards made, I can still sit back and enjoy the show. I just try to forget the man behind the character and remember it's only Kramer.
And Jesse Jackson, good luck with trying to ban the n-word. That'll get you oh so far...it's manifested far too much into our culture already to slow it down at this point.

I don't get why boycotting the Seinfeld DVDs should be a response to Michael Richards being a racist. As I understand it, the only people who get money from snydication and the DVD sales are Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. Aren't they always saying how the other 3 cast members got screwed because they had no rights to the show? The show is over, and thus Michael Richards is no longer getting paid. What would boycotting the DVDs do exactly?

I pre-ordered the DVD before the controversy started. If Jerry Seinfeld had made the statements, I probably would have sent them back. I do find myself repulsed at the site of Kramer when before all he had to do was enter a scene and say "Giddy Up" for me to laugh.

When the Seinfeld Season sets were first released on DVD, they cost about $60 each. Last week many retailers had them on special, I believeI saw Season 1-4 for $14.88 each at soem retailers. Tha makes them less expensive than some single DVD releases
