Who's afraid of Bianca Ryan?

1053__bianca_lHelp me out, PopWatchers: Why does 12-year-old America’s Got Talent winner Bianca Ryan fill me with unspeakable dread? She just popped up on Today, and gave a perfectly mundane interview that went something along the lines of "Like, y’know, I was, like, inspired by Hilary Duff, like, and I, like, taught myself, like, to sing, and like, I always wanted to be, like, famous." In other words, she’s not Damien; she’s just a seemingly normal kid with a supersized voice (which gets the full-blown power-ballad treatment on her new self-titled CD, which is streaming over at AOL Music). I dunno. Maybe I just don’t want to hear a pre-teen covering Bette Midler’s "The Rose," and certainly not "I Believe I Can Fly" — or anything by R. Kelly for that matter. Maybe I’m worried early fame will be too much, and in a decade, she’ll be just another Troubled Former Teen Star. Then again, maybe it’s the budding alliances she outlines in this interview with the Philadelphia Daily News: Wal-Mart, Disney, Kim Jong Il, Patti LaBelle. Yep, kid’s gonna totally rule the world.

Why does everyone have to get hair extensions? I realize she’s a twelve year-old with a big voice, but does she have to be a twelve year-old with a big weave too? Look how she’s holding on to it, like the drawstring of a hoodie.

She should not sing “And I Am Telling You. . .” either. My Launchcast started playing it for me the other day and it sounds just awful. Leave it to the Jennifers, honey.

  • t3hdow

She’s 12?! WHOA…I thought it was the actor that played Lizzie from The Nine at first. I feel dirty now…:(

  • meredith

It looks like they put her on a diet also, that’s nice. Its pretty important that she loses weight after all, no one will buy her cds if she’s not too skinny…

  • Madeleine

Yuck, don’t like her. She weird looking with that big, moon-shaped head, thin lips and far apart eyes. And annoying. Hope she fades away quickly. Her priorities are apparent with the “want to be famous” comment. Famous??! I can’t even remember her name after I typed this!!
Cliff…so RIGHT about the extensions (LOL at the hoodie obvervation).

Is that tween clasping her breasts?

  • Anna

No she’s not clasping her breasts. She’s holding on to her hair.

Woah, did she just started puberty?! She looks more older in that photo than a few months ago when she won America’s Got Talent.
Speaking of that, I still think the award should have gone to someone else. She should have participated in American Idol.

I don’t have a problem with her voice. I have a problem with that really over-airbrushed photo of hers. I know she’s tugging her hair, but it looks like she’s cupping her boobs. SHE’S 12!!! Does she need to look like an over-sexed lolita? Let her be a kid. God, kids grow up waaaay too fast.

  • bootsycolumbia

She seems like a nice kid, if kind of robotic. I saw her on Ellen Degeneres today and was surprised, and saddened, at how homogenized and oversexed she looks now. On AGT she looked like a normal looking kid next door. Now she looks like she’s the pop tart du jour, which is depressing. I actually think she’s got a good voice, but feel as though twenty years of life experience will make it great.

She was also just on “Oprah” today as Simon Cowell’s new “discovery”. Just because she’s loud, doesn’t mean she’s a good singer. There’s something wrong with a 12 year old belting out these power ballads. She’s just imitating other singers, not bringing anything of her own.

I’ve never heard her, but a friend of mine watched the show, and she thinks this girl is the second coming of Whitney Houston or something.

  • Just Me

    Madeleine:
You must be a scout for models, why else would you berate a girl who is only twelve? She looks like a child to me, and you sound stupid!

  • Toni

    Madeleine and cliff:
The two of you would make a perfect couple:Defective melons.

This girl is talented. She does not have hair extensions, this is how long her hair is. There was an interview with her father that he did not want her to record until she was about 16 or so, however, he did not read the fine print in the AGT contract and didn’t see that she has a 5 CD commitment with them so she has to record. She’s had record companies after her since she was 9 and this wasn’t the first competion she was in – she also did Star Search and came in second.

It’s true. You look at her & feel so sad. She’s a little kid with a big voice. Judy Garland had an exceptonally mature voice at a young age too, and look what happened there. There is something kind of creepy about a young kid singing of love and loss. It’s just not mentally healthy for her or us.

  • hop

You all need to grow up

  • Juju

Too bad Hop had nothing to say. And I don’t feel sorry for her. She does not have to have the same thing happen to her as Judy Garland.

Refer back to the “12-year-old” part… and the fact that she’s pretty new to all this attention…and the PR pace she’s been keeping in the couple weeks could only be survived by youth.
About the songs… Bianca’s a girl of faith & there are other levels of understanding on these selections. I say that as an a parent – not particularly keen on R.Kelly’s image. However, Bianca gives it a beautiful rendition. So…lighten up, give the kid a chance. She’s a sweetheart & a world class talent that’s in sixth grade.

She’s one of the most phenomenal talents on this earth.
More power to her. If you can’t hear it it’s not her fault.

I am the producer of Melange Theatre, “Live” http://www.melangetheatre.info, a monthly showcase in Philadelphia Pa. The show is free. We are in it for love, not profit. We exist to support, nurture and encourage talent.
Bianca appeared with us several times before all of this “fame” happened. As she was standing two feet away from me belting out an audition, I was keenly aware that I was witnessing a future superstar. She brought tears to my eyes and a thrill I can’t explain. Hearing that incredible voice coming out of that little body was a surreal experience. Bianca’s genius is a gift to the Human Race. We should be proud that she has been given to us. We should be proud that she is one of us. Her talent is like a Tsunami driving into a city…unstoppable. Genius must be expressed. Like it or not, Bianca will be with us for a long time to come, and I’m glad. She will not suffer the “child star” syndrome. She is above that. Bianca really wants to be heard. She is not being forced into this. She is finally finding her own level….superstardom. Get used to it. Accept it.

i thijnk bianca ryan is amazing.i would love to be able to sing like her.i entered britains got talent and i would hate to think that people had a pop at me just because they are jelous that i am a 13 teen year old kid. just get over yourself

  • bigblak

Yall need to stop hatin the poor grl. jus cuz she got talent and yall dont dont mean that u should hate her. she has a nice voice and shes talented GET OVER IT. shes famous and your not and there is a reason for that.

I don’t think bianca ryan should be singing such grown up songs when she’s at primary school, because she has no idea about it. I do not like her voice but agree she has got a bit of talent

  • Alexa

Bianca Ryan has been named a child sensation and best child singer. But before her, I’ve seen kids around me who are 10000 times better and yet they’re unappriciated. Some kids are even heartbroken because while some rich kid is getting all the glory, some kids are more talented yet they can’t go because there is no singing competition where they live. Just because Bianca Ryan sings louder than a deer after an aligator eats it doesn’t mean she’s a good singer. She’s not a good singer to me.

  • Lisa

Hey, we’re aloud to hate who we hate. No matter what you say, I’ll always hate Bianca Ryan and I feel sorry for Kamille. Kamille is a 7 year old GREAT singer. her voice is like a mix of Lea Salonga and Vanessa Hudgens. She can’t go on singing competition because they live someplace where you don’t get competitions and she doesn’t have enough money to go someplace else. Tara, Kamille’s friend, is also a great singer and has the exact same situation as Kamille. So stop it, okay? We decide who we like and hate. And guess what? There’s nothing you can do about it.

  • Alexa

Main point, I hate Bianca Ryan. I mean, come on! We barely know her! Those who don’t know someone don’t really care for them. You say she’s a good girl but what exactly happen before all the fame? Before America’s Got Talent, hmm? Anybody know? Was she a bad girl BEFORE all of this fame? Was she a show off? See what I mean?

  • Bianca Ryan HATER

Hi. Every Bianca Ryan lovers, let’s make a little test: if you loved Bianca Ryan but your kid hates her and thinks of her as her mortal enemy, which side would you pick, hmmm?

  • someone

If you ask me, i think charice pempengco is the best child singer, look her up on youtube, she’ll blow you away, but I think bianca has a nice voice too, better than many of those child/teen disney singers at least, though i dont kno what kinda person she is…
