Trailer Blazer: 'The Simpsons Movie'

How do you turn a cliché into something hilarious? Ask the folks behind the dangerously funny trailer for The Simpsons Movie, which takes the tired chestnut "between a rock and a hard place" and transforms it into a side-splitting sight gag. Add the line, "Uh, the bunny’s not breathing," and this one looks like the rare animated movie I’ll actually shell out money to see, come next July 27. (You know, as opposed to saying I’ll see it, and then sort of forgetting to go.) How ’bout you, PopWatchers?

That was great. I can’t wait to see it! Now when are the South Park boys going to make a follow-up to “Bigger, Longer, and Uncut”?!

  • kennyk

    DOH!!!
It has taken a looooooong time for it to finally get here, but TV’s most beloved dysfunctional klan is coming to the big screen, and I for one can’t wait.
I just hope there won’t be a film version of AMERICAN DAD…

I hope 100 tacos for $100 will be adequate sustance for repeat viewings of this movie. I even liked last night’s episode.

I thought that “trailer” was lame…me and my significant other just looked at each other and said “That’s it?”

  • Anna

i agree about it being lame. the entire football game they hyped it and hyped it and then it came on and it was eh.

  • Lee

Next summer I will probably be living at the movie theater. Between “The Simpsons”, “Spider Man 3″, “Shrek 3″ “Pirates of the Carribean 3″ and Harry Potter 5″ Summer 2007 will go down in history as the BEST MOVIE SUMMER EVER!

I actually laughed at Homer and the whole rock and a hard place bit. It took a second to register what was goin on but then got it.

  • ericalina

wow, that really WASN’T funny. are you being sarcastic slezak? because that was as tired as they come.

  • Mozz

Thanks slezack, I just laugh so loud at work, my boss came over to see what was so funny… so I showed her…She laughed out loud, and then told me to get back to work, a few minutes later an interoffice e-mail from my boss… connected everyone in the office to the trailer. Now my boss is getting all the credit for being the coolest person in the world. GOD, I hate it when she takes credit for my lazyness.

I thought it was perfect – showed us just enough to peak our interest. Still a little scared that it is going to suck and I wish they would have given us some more idea of what the story is going to be about (just a little) – but I will be going and seeing it.
Hopefully it will be as good as the “South Park” movie was…….here’s hoping!!

I’m not a Simpsons fan, but I hurt myself laughing at this trailer.

  • Chad

I hate to say it…but I didn’t like it. I was very disappointed. Isn’t this movie about 5 years too late anyway?

  • Cynic

This was little more than another teaser trailer.

  • donner

I thought the trailer was boring…not funny in the slightest…and I LOVE old Simpsons (monorail, etc)…I watched last night’s episode and it was awful…why can’t the movie have been written by Conan O’Brien and the funny people who USED to do the show…so sad…

  • kennyk

    Message to “Lee:”
    Amen, brother!
I’ll probably be sitting right behind you…
2007 is going to be HUGE at the box office!

  • Tim

Too funny. I plan on seeing it.

  • Todd

I want to see the movie, but the trailer didn’t really do anything to promote it.

  • Anders

I have to say that trailer was barely chuckle worthy. I cracked a little smile at the very end, when homer is inexplicably slammed back into the rock, but that was it.
And while gen x might shell out some cash for nostalgias stake (Slezak), The 20 something of the world have only known mediocre simpsons like in this so so trailer.
Its going to flop at the box office, becuase its at least six years too late. Hell, I’d much rather see a Futurama movie, or even family guy. Both are smarter, funnier, and more relevant to todays viewers.

  • The Other Kyle

I was cautiously optimistic going into the trailer but thought it actually was pretty lame. The rock and a hard place gag was funny? Really? The stab at CG movies was kinda funny. But nothing better than you can find on South Park or Family Guy every week.

  • aramis

OMG. That was too funny. The bunny! Anya would be so terrified to watch this trailor.
“Bunnies aren’t so cute like everybody supposes! They got their hoppy legs and twitchy little noses. But what’s with all the carrots? What do they need such good eye sight for anyway? Bunnies! Bunnies, it must be bunnies!”
Oh, and the slamming of Homer was hysterical.

  • Mark

Someone please tell me why this show is still on the air ? I mean, sure it was funny…..FIFTEEN years ago.

  • Michael

Pardon the oxymoron, but this movie is going to be an instant classic. I must admit I was hoping for more a little more length to the trailer after all the hype, but for what it did show my expectations are high.
And another thing…anyone who didn’t think last nights episode was funny must have been watching, oh I don’t know, ANYTHING BUT the episode. Last night was hilarious and proved to me that though every single installment can’t be up to par with the peak years, they’ve still got it. I mean…
“Why did you just say that sentence fragment?”
    “Uhh…long story.”
    That was comic gold!

  • t3hdow

Like The Simpsons episodes in recent years, it gave me a chuckle in a few parts, but the rest was average at best.
Sorry, but after the awful season 13, I stopped watching the show. Unless the actual movie pulls a miracle, I don’t think I’m going to be watching.
I do commend the trailer for talking bad to the now mundane genre of CG movies though. That’s admirable.

two types of people: people who say the Simpsons is washed up, and intellegent people. This movie will be a gem, and instant classic. I count on all you haters to PLEASE stay home.

  • bp

and yes, I did spell intelligent wrong. So I guess there’s three types of people.

  • Stephanie Travitsky

When a show has been on for a long time, sometimes it might be difficult to develop fresh ideas. The original intent of the Simpsons Movie was to close the book on the show with a movie. However, The Simpsons will be back for another season. It is a entertaining show, but when it was in its earlier stages it was funnier. I am still a fan no matter what. And please, before The Simpsons, Yeardly Smith was in the show Herman’s Head which was not that funny.
