Will you stick around as 'Lost' switches to 'Day Break'?

92328__taye_lLike many Lost fans, I’ve already circled February 7 on my calendar. Because after tonight’s new episode (No. 6 in the show’s third season), Lost is going to take a page from Madonna’s playbook by taking a holiday — one that will last a good three months. (Whether its cast and crew are gonna have a celebration, all across the world, and in every nation, remains to be seen.)

Anyhow, a related article in today’s New York Times questions whether ABC’s decision to split Lost‘s season into two parts — and, as a result, eliminate dreaded reruns — will "cause confusion and dismay among Lost fans who do not spend most of their waking hours scouring recorded episodes and online fan sites for clues about the mysteries of the island where the show is set." To which I say, "Feh." As far as I’m concerned, the Times underestimates audience loyalty and savviness; split seasons didn’t hurt shows like The Sopranos, Sex and the City, or Battlestar Galactica, and not only that, today’s viewing public is more aware of scheduling changes than ever before. I seriously doubt there’s a Lost fan in the land who’s unaware of its impending hiatus.

More troubling are the lame-o previews for Lost‘s seat-filler, the Taye Diggs (pictured) vehicle Day Break. As a PopWatch reader named "B" writes in our comments section this morning, "[I] hate the way Taye Diggs says ‘I love you’ in the preview they broadcast CONSTANTLY. Picky!" Not picky at all, B! For weeks, I’ve been flinching every time Diggs mumbles his supposed-to-sound-romantic declaration; does the show’s Groundhog Day premise mean we’ll have to hear him "I love you" his mate again and again? If that’s the case, I might have to find out what this Criminal Minds phenomenon is all about. How ’bout you, PopWatchers? Do you think Lost watchers will return to the show come February? And will they tune in to Day Break in the interim?

At this point no…I don’t like Taye Diggs.

Having seen the first 25 minutes of the Daybreak pilot, I highly recommend that people give it a chance. It’s as intense as anything on tv short of 24. I can’t wait. Then again, I fast forward through commercials and haven’t gotten sick of the ads.

I will definitely NOT be watching Daybreak. I’m also ok with the switch because this gives me a great opportunity to get into the OC for a good 3 months before Lost comes back on. I was in an OC-Grey’s Anatomy quandary, but now that it’ll be in Lost’s old time slot I’m all set to change the channel and settle back into the life and times of the Cohen Family.

Why can’t Taye Diggs find better material? He is a good actor, but Day Break looks terrible, and I for one, will not be tuning in. I also will not be “confused or dismayed” by the splitting of Lost’s season. If the alternative to was to fill mid-Nov.-January with Lost re-runs, I probably wouldn’t have watched them, anyway.

I’m a die-hard Lost fan and have been from day one so I don’t care how much time passes during the hiatus. As for the Groundhog Day show, I hated the movie and the television show doesn’t inspire me in the least. I’m not even going to waste my time with that one. There are plenty of other shows to watch as well as HBO movies and specials. Other than that, I’ll just play fetch with my dogs!

Nope, not gonna watch Day Break. The previews somehow manage to make it look frantic and boring at the same time – maybe it’s that whole repetition thing. If ABC really wants to keep viewers pasted to their network in this time slot between Lost “seasons” (also hating how they call it the “fall season” – so what’s February? the “valentine season?”), they’re going to need something a lot more compelling than this.

I’ll absolutely give it a shot, I can dvr The O.C. on Wednesday as easily as I can on Thursday. Taye Diggs is good enough to get me to tune in, but then again I said the same thing about a certain Ray Liotta vehicle, and we all know the heartbreak THAT resulted in, don’t we?

No Daybreak for me. With 24, The Shield and The Sopranos returning in January, there’s no need to start watching a mid-season replacement that probably won’t make it.

Another thing that turns me off to Day Break…it reminds me too much of the last three years of my marriage…same cr@p, different day.

No, I won’t be watching Day Break. The only new shows I started with were Ugly Betty, Heroes, Studio 60 and 30 Rock this fall – there were too many others that were good and that were on my tivo before. I would probably use the time to catch up on things I’ve already got waiting on my tivo or on dvd.

Poor Taye Diggs. He’s so hot, but that show looks baaaaad.

After the 32481346 previews a week I have been completely turned off by this show.
Too bad, because I love me some Taye Diggs.

The Lost hiatus is a bad bad bad idea. Sure, fans think they’re ok with it now, but check back in two months from now and see what they think. Lost is already losing
viewers, this WILL NOT help reverse that. Oh, and Daybreak…no thanks.

  • Miles

No, I will not be watching DAYBREAK… I have joined a writer’s group that I have been waiting to join forever and it meets on Wednesday night,if only they knew I plan to quit when February 7th arrives. I don’t think they would have let me in.

I like Taye Diggs and I loooove Adam Baldwin (Jayne from Firefly; he’s in this!), but Day Break just looks kinda’, eh… lame? It’s never a good sign when the premise of your dramatic series reminds everyone of the premise of a comedy movie involving a furry little animal.
As for Lost, the break sucks, but I’m glad there are no reruns! Last season’s schedule was pretty annoying. Then again, they could have the most crazy scheduling on earth and I’d still be watching.
