It’s been 7 hours and 89 days…approximately, anyway… since I last blogged about Elliott Yamin. I came to this realization when I tried to use my E-card this morning, and it was declined. Clearly, this situation needs to be remedied, and fortunately, the most charming and naturally gifted vocalist of American Idol’s fifth season is making headlines today, allowing me to do just that. Woot!
According to MTV News, Elliott is touring with Taylor Hicks’ former band Little Memphis Blues Orchestra; but the folks at Yaminions.com say that’s not the case, that LMBO merely backed Elliott during his recent gig at the Virginia State Fair. To which I say, WHY HASN’T ELLIOTT BEEN SIGNED TO A MAJOR LABEL YET?!?! Whew. Sorry ’bout that. Okay, I’m calm now. Really. But check out these YouTube clips (thanks to PopWatcher Justin Castillo for the heads-up) of E-Double and LMBO performing "Use Me," "Little Ghetto Boy," "I Believe to My Soul," and "Whipping Post," and tell you don’t feel the outrage a little, too.

Keep pushing for your guy, Michael. I certainlythink he’ll have a longer career than that curly haired chump who lost to Kelly in season 1, Justin-something
Elliot is the only one to try and score a contract outside of the 19 label that all the other Idols sign to. He also doesn’t want to rush and record a crappy album just to get it out before Christmas time (unlike Ruben, Clay, Katherine McPhee, Chris Daughtry, Kelly Pickler, and Taylor Hicks). At least that’s what he said in the EW interview at the end of the Idol season!
In any case, I applaud him for not taking the easy road and compromising his music. BUT, I do hope he gets a record contract soon. The music industry would be crazy to pass on such a talented and charming person!
Michael, maybe this would answer your question:
ARTISTS PRODUCE ALBUMS ON OWN: DIGITAL MUSIC CUTS OUT STUDIOS
http://www.nydailynews.com/business/story/…3p-392455c.html
*Artists are singing a different tune as they increasingly bypass the major record companies to make CDs — solo.
*Everyone from one-time teeny bopper heartthrob Hanson, to quirky pop act Barenaked Ladies, to hard rockers Motley Crue are on their own.
*The rise of digital music sales has made it easier for artists to cut out the middleman. Almost any artist can sell songs on iTunes.
*The Internet is also shifting the power away from the majors. While once artists depended on their record companies to promote their songs to radio stations and MTV, now social networking sites like MySpace.com are the place to break records.
Are Elliott Yamin and his cousin, Josh Abrahamn going this route? If so, my kudos to them. (Clive Davis, eat your heart out!) It will give Elliott’s fanbase the impetus to be proactive, to be empowered to work their butts off on his behalf.
Let’s face it, Elliott will have a hard time being a pop idol but once he gets a record deal, he’ll be the one winning the grammy’s.

WHERE IS ELLIOTT’S CD?!
We love you Elliott and are waiting “PATIENTLY”. It reminds me of what my grandma used to always say. “Anything worth having, is worth waiting for”, but c’mon already!

*blinking stare*
Uhm, Slezak, my good man…I’m with you on most issues, but…WOW…It’s hard to follow you on this one.
“American Idol” is pure example of what’s wrong with TV and MUSIC these days, which includes yuks – though, talented – like Yamin. If they were really talented, they would steer FAR away from AI, period. Look how long it took Kelly to shed her AI stigma (which included cutting everyone off altogether who had anything to do with her stint on the show and her crappy first album).
If Yamin were to make it – I wish him well that he does – he needs to run FAR AWAY from anything to with AI, period.
Yes. Somebody. Please. Sign. Him.
Before I, and many like me, forget about him altogether.
Does anyone really truly care? I’m not an Elliott hater, but seriously this time of year just means a slew of crappy albums from American Idol winners, alums & runner-ups..and I’ve honestly gotta ask DOES AMERICA STILL CARE? Everyo ne from these blogs knows I hate Clay Aiken, but his album’s been out for a month now, & yeah its a crappy covers album, but even I would have guessed he’d still be hanging in the Billboard top 10, but he’s not. I didn’t have high hopes for Reuben’s latest cd either, but his sales were even lower than I anticipated. Though Mario Vazquez dropped out of the competition after securing his spot in the top 10, his single, “Gallery” has been all over pop radio & MTV since June & his cd came out a few weeks ago with barely any significant impact. Kellie Pickler’s album drops tomorrow, but she’s appealing to the country crowd, so thats kind of a different animal all together, but like I said, DOES ANYONE REALLY CARE TO PURCHASE AMERICAN IDOL ALBUMS RIGHT NOW?? I’m going to go out on a limb and say the saturation point has been reached…
Michael:
I too loooove Elliot but I’ve been waiting for a blog about a much more pressing topic. What is your snap judgment on the new Beyonce single/video to “Irreplaceable”?
I am probably in the minority when I say to quit gushing over the troll! He is a zero-prescence Mr. Tumnus wannabe who puts his spin on songs in an annoying way that’s even more difficult to watch. Fine soe other charity case to back and quit whining over this one. BTW, has that Crypt-Keeper monstrosity he calls his mother shuffled off this mortal coil yet?
Spud,
How could you possibly think is appropriate to call Mrs. Yamin a “crypt-keeper monstrosity” and hope that she dies? Have you been practicing that one in hopes of making the finals on “Yo Momma,” because it’s a) not funny b) incredibly rude. Using terms like “charity case” and “troll” is just uncalled for — you may not appreciate his music but there is no reason to attack him personally for his looks or personal situation.
cancel studio 60!
The very fact that a major label deal has not been announced yet says to me that he is doing his best to get away from Idol and on his own – he’s not going to be a pop star – he’s going to be a legendary artist – if you don’t believe me – check out the YouTube video from this concert of I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know.
I am posting this everywhere, so forgive me if you’re annoy.

How can something like this exist? Why hasn’t no one taken it down? I hope someone at EW checks it out and writes a blog about it because as a person of color, this offends me more than anything that Flava Flav could do on his TV show (which actually I like).
I CARE ! ! ! ! I don’t think of Elliott Yamin as “from American Idol”. He has already moved beyond IT. I think of him as the Best Damn voice ever. He will be legendary, just watch and see what this man accomplishes.
Mike,
Thanks for remembering Elliott. He still has many fans and I am sure that his CD will sell quite well. He is probably the only one out of all AI 2005 contestants who will gain more fans after his association with AI will be forgotten because of his amazing voice.
Just listen to ‘I love you more than you will ever know’ on youtube. It’s a masterpiece.

Jen Jen…you are right. Elliott’s first record will isn’t going to be a rush job. Remember Bat Out of Hell took 4 years in the making, and Meatloaf didn’t have a label for that one till it was finished. (I don’t think he did.) At any rate ..what a success story.
Believe in yourself and Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down.
Meatloaf said to his band, I’m a train and you can choose to follow behind in a car, or you can hook on to the train.
This ETRAIN is hooked on to Elliott.
Benito,it’s obvious that Elliott is going the route of cutting out the middleman. He’s rumored to be hooked up with the FIRM and this is their busines mode.
I don’t care to purchase AI albums. I want quality not karaoke.
I will buy Patrick Hall’s album and when Elliott releases his I will definitely purchase his CD.
Phil, Ruben is doing pretty good.
* “Return” CD: #2 R&B/Hip Hop, #8 Top 200
* “Change Me”: #2 Adult R&B, #23 R&B/Hip Hop
Thanks, Michael, for giving E a mention. I can’t wait until he comes out with his own cd and yes, if he doesn’t get signed to a major label and distributed everywhere on earth it is an outrage! Best darn singer to come along in years, and not just on American Idol.
Michael,
Thanks for keeping us informed about Elliott. I went to his solo concert in Virginia and it was excellent. He really has grown as a performer. Can’t wait for his CD.
I love me some Elliot Yamin!!!
I miss you, Elliot.
Thanks Michael for the update. Can’t wait for Elliot to release something, anything!!!!
I definitely am outraged that the best male vocalist AI has ever seen has not been signed to a major label! But, I have no doubt that Elliott Yamin will be a huge success. I am trying my best to be patient!
Elliott will put out a quality album that will be worth the wait. This guy has is a huge talent and has a huge heart to match. Go Elliott!
Elliott rules!!!
That is all.
