Wes Anderson and Roald Dahl belatedly meet

9220__wes_lIt’s so natural, it’s a wonder no one’s thought of it before: Wes Anderson (pictured) will adapt Roald Dahl (The Fantastic Mr. Fox, to be precise). Anderson can finally embrace a role he’s been hopscotching toward for years: Wry children’s fabulist. And Dahl can… well, Dahl can be assured he won’t spin in his grave, Seuss-style. (Qualitatively, I’d say his screen adaptations fared better than the good doctor’s. With some notable exceptions.)

Fox will be animated, and that animation will be primarily stop-motion, the kind Anderson claymated with live action in The Life Aquatic (official endpoint of his long romance with critics). Is there a family involved? Yup. Family of stop-motion foxes. It practically comes with its own Mark Mothersbaugh score.

Childlike adults will be heartbroken, of course, losing their quirkster-in-chief to nasty, grubby-fingered actual friggin’ children. But they’ll have Anderson’s next pic, The Darjeeling Limited, to keep them warm at night. What’s more, Anderson has, as a goodwill gesture, promised to read a bedtime story to every single adult citizen of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Each will get a full and enthusiastic reading of The BFG ("with the voices") and a sweetly quasironic forehead kiss.

The worst thing Roald Dahl wrote was the over-long and unfun to watch Bond Movie “you only live twice”. Some of those space scenes are god awful. totally marked the decline of JB in the 60’s.
I dig SOME of Wes Anderson’s work (I hated that movie about the kid who is in like 100 clubs and does all those stupid plays. Man that kid irked me!) and hope he finds a way to keep Gene Hackman, Bill Murray and (personal favorite) Willem Dafoe working in quirky roles.

I like his movies. Bottle Rocket was pointless but shoot, I guess I could care less. Shame these gifted directors wont take a shot at actual cartoon animation with movies that were like the darker stuff in the late 80’s.

The only thing that Wes Anderson has done so far that I liked was the American Express commercial.
That being said, I love Roald Dahl’s children’s books so I’m hoping this will be good.

    “Fantastic Mr. Fox”

Robert Dahl is one of my daughter’s favorite authors. We have read several of his books but are still working our way down the list. Fantastic Mr. Fox is one we have not read yet but it is cool that

Someone should make a live action BFG movie with Jason Segel as the BFG
