Los Angeles Daily News blogger David Kronke posted a set of hilarious outtakes of an interview he conducted with James Woods (love his Family Guy cameos!) about his new CBS series, Shark. Woods admitted to being happier on the small screen because he can’t stand the current state of film. Why aren’t movies successful? "Three simple words: Because they f@&^ing stink," says Woods. "That’s four words, but you can’t write the f@&^ing word. They stink, they stink, they stink, what’s wrong with you? They stink. Do better movies. … Finally, I saw a good movie — The Departed. And look what it took: It took Marty Scorsese, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, (screenwriter) Bill Monahan – and it’s based on another movie."
James Woods is my hero. Who says f@&^ing s#%* like that in Hollywood anymore? Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to retreat to a happy time when movies used to be good. I’m off to go rent Vampires.

He is totally right. Wake me up when there is a totally original idea for a movie out there. I am tired of watching trailers for “Rocky 28″ and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 43″…please, throw us a frickin bone, Hollywood!!!!!
I don’t know if James Woods is right, but I do know that he is, in fact, James Woods.
I have to admit, I loved Vampires. Does that make me a bad person?
James is right and he’s my hero. I’ve seen three good movies this year: The Departed, the Inside Man (saw it twice) and Water…and One excellent performance by a female – Meryl Streep in Prada.
Other than that, it’s been a cartoon a week and utter silliness on the screen.
He has it going on I love his show
Everyone always btchs about the quality of Hollywood films. “They’re not as good as they used to be” “There’s no originality anymore.” Bull twinkies. Some of the best, classic films are, guess what, remakes! Maltese Falcon, remake. Gone with the Wind and Wizard of Oz, book adaptations. Same for Cuckoo’s Nest, Dracula, Jaws, and even Hitchcock movies like The Birds. It’s not where the ideas come from, it’s how they’re used, and there have been in the last fifteen years some of the most creative uses of technology EVER, as well as exploring the limits of theatricality, revitalizing our love in classic genres, and more. The only reason old movies seem better is because you forgot Bogie’s 50 bad movies and remember his three or four really good ones. But for every Phantom Menace there is a Lord of the Rings or a Serenity. They may not always show up when and where you want them, but there a great movies being made by those evil, selfish, money-grubbing studios that everyone loves to hate. They are making good movies, you just have to pay attention.
Love him and his honesty. There seems to be really one or two good movies released a year, and that is it! And can we PLEASE stop remaking TV shows on the big screen!
I happen to love James Woods and this is his best role. Now, how do I contact Gillian Flynn for her review of Shark?! I’d like to have a few words with her. Toothless legal drama? I beg to differ.
if you go to dan tanna’s, get the cheeze ravioli… it’s TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!
To Chris Richards: There is a distinct difference between remaking a classic story or adapting movies from books and trying to squeeze every last cent from an idea, and that is what is frustrating about movies today. Does there really need to be a new Rocky or Indiana Jones? Do we need to see 60-year-olds trying to play characters they played more than 20 years ago? There is something a little sad about it.
And I am with Jill..there is no need to remake every tv show into a movie. There are good movies out there, you are right. I saw the Prestige last night, for example, and loved it. It’s just that there are too few movies that surprise us anymore, and there are too many bad sequels.
I think Nose and Chris Richards both make solid points. The industry has probably made one classic for every ten stinkers since the beginning of time. That said, Rocky 6? Who on god’s green earth would greenlight such an awful idea (probably someone who didn’t see Rocky 5)?
The general vibe seems to have been recently that a lot of the compelling writers have moved onto tv. Now that big name stars are taking stints at tv shows (Glenn Close and later Forest Whittaker saved “the Shield”), there’s less reason for them to stay in movies. It seems that even they are starting to dislike some of the crap they’ve been put in.
Which segs into my next idea. Could we put Tara Reid on some show so she’ll stop making movies with uwe Bol? One was bad enough…
Last thing (sorry for the long post, even for me), I love James Woods! We tend to disagree on the issues (at least based on his public rants we do), but it’s so cool to me that the man seems to always stick to his guns and is always James Woods no matter what.
