Two themes dominated last night’s episode of The Nine: cell phones and children. (Specifically, ABC would like you to please buy pink Motorola RAZRs for your children.) We found out what really happened as Felicia (Dana Davis, pictured) tried her mightiest to place a 911 call from the bank, and Kathryn’s love affair with her cell in such unlikely places as a doc’s waiting room (who cares?) and a coutroom (why didn’t anyone care?) enabled her to donate equal amounts of her panic-stricken faces to her job and Lizzie. I like that Kathryn’s becoming more human and relaxed — she’ll probably want to continue popping tranqulizers. (Speculation! Not sure about that.)
Also: kids. So many kids. The increasingly likeable Franny lost control of young Ricky, who locked himself in his room and did something involving broken glass. Lizzie had a miscarriage scare and ended up telling Jeremy about the baby. Egan Foote — who can stop explaining how to spell his name to people who don’t care any day now — suddenly wants a child, but his wife isn’t havin’ it, in more ways than one. And the episode centered around the captivating Felicia, who visited a hypnotherapist to remember what happened during the robbery, then shared a tense screaming match with dad Malcolm. The haunting flashbacks were great this week, and I liked that we viewers saw what really happened well before Felicia learned about it. Hopefully, that’ll become a recurring motif.
This week in "The Nine Ruined This Song For Me": Eganlistened to one of my faves, ELO’s "Do Ya," while gulping through ajazzercise routine that was reminiscient of Kevin Spacey in American Beauty, except it was 1000x lamer. I’m still not buying something about Egan’sover-the-top positive attitude, especially when it’s focused on beingreally excited about visiting an employment agency.
The nine were in the bank 52 hours, of which the show’s onlyaddressed five or so minutes. And yet I’m still really into it, andwill continue to be as long as next week’s flashbacks don’t involveKathryn’s mom cleaning Egan’s glasses in a drugged-down stupor. Whatabout you, PopWatchers? Still watching?

I thought they were Kathryn’s pills and she got them out of her purse to calm her mother, who then made a comment on the size of the bottle.
I was really excited about this show and I liked the first episode, but I’ve kind of been iffy since. I’m sure I’ll keep watching for a while.
I loved this episode! I think The Nine is finally pulling together, on its third life, rather than expending all Nine
. The pink cell phone, well you couldn’t miss it. I am kind of glad we now know how 911 was called. It was torturing poor Felicia and now we know how heroic she was, and the stand-off really wasn’t her fault, because she’s not the one who caught the signal. I still suspect something really bad happened to her and her dad, but we don’t know what yet. That would explain why everyone is reluctant to talk to her about the events – besides the fact she’s just a kid. A site with a lot of news and blog feeds is at http://www.FidelityRepublic.com/ I saw preliminary ratings and it seems they are stabalizing for The Nine. My hope is this means it will have a chance, and we’ll find out what really did happen inside the bank!
Nope – not watching – lost my interest last week and after the first 1/2 of lost last night shut my TV off so wouldn’t be bothered with it.
I like it. It’s a bit much after Lost, but it’s interesting. Somebody told me about a piece on NPR describing how the country is now divided between CSI type procedurals and Lost type mysticals. Apparently some of us want to know exactly what the explanation is every week while others get off on speculating.
still watching. i like this show. it needs time to develop.
networks should be req’d to allow minimum of 13 eps before pulling any show.
I’m still watching. But the latest episode got less and less interesting as it went on. The scenes from the robbery were cool; Kathryn overly concerned about Lizzie’s baby were not. Doesn’t Lizzie have an actual friend to take her to the doctor instead of an aquaintance who really doesn’t have the time? Overall, the story needs to move a little faster.
Can I raise my DVR? All of the episodes are there. I haven’t watch them yet. Is this show going to last? At this point, I am only going to be invested in shows that will still be on in January.
Tried this for three weeks and I’m done. I realized what the problem is – all I care about is what happened in the bank – since I don’t know that, I could care less what happened to the people AFTER the bank. The flashback scenes are great, but the rest of the show is boring the hell out of me, and five minutes a week isn’t enough to keep my interest. Sorry – I’d rather catch up on Battlestar Galactica from the previous Friday.
The scenes of the bank robbery itself are compelling. Outside of the bank the show is a stroll down PTSD lane. Prozac, anyone?
I’m watching, it’s a great show, great writing, solid acting, and mystery. Count me as one that likes these serialized shows, if you want all the answers served to you on a plate within the hour, just watch Matlock reruns.
First episode was great. It turned to crap midway thru the second and I never went back.
Nope, done.
I’m still watching. This last episode was so-so. And yes, I’m with Elaine: doesn’t Lizzy have a friend besides Kathryn to take her to the doctor’s??? I don’t buy that that’s all that happened to Felicia. You don’t suddenly lose your memory because you tried to make a 911 call. And remember how she and Malcolm were found, with Malcolm standing in front of her, almost comatose, clearly protecting her from something. I like the show, but a little less Egan, and a little more Tim Daly (yum!). And a LOT less pregnancy. Although FINALLY a show has the cojones to have a main character who’s had an abortion. I thought they were going to totally wimp out and give Audrey-I-mean-Kathryn a miscarriage, but they didn’t.
Of course I’m still watching! This is the best new show on Television this season (that is until “Traveler” starts). Story, characters, acting, intrigue…what more could you want. Just because there are not bloody corpses (cough, CSI, cough) or all the characters sleeping together in every imaginable combination (Grey’s) doesn’t mean the show isn’t good. It appeals more to those who enjoy a good story and involvement than those who enjoy the next cheap thrill. Studio 60 is the other great show on TV right now. The exchange between Matthew Perry and Sarah Paulson was probably the most touching moment on television so far this year. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about…give it a try!
Found the second episode a little slow, but thoroughly enjoyed last night. And I totally agree with Lola re Felicia, something else definitely happened.
I dropped it. Don’t any full-figured women, or women over 40 go to the bank?
Concerning Egan’s “over-the-top positive attitude” I don’t trust it either. In the first episode where he runs toward Randall when the cops bust in, I think he was making an attempt to get himself shot rather than be a hero. And what was with those looks he was giving Franny? Very creepy, and you can tell from next week’s teaser that he and Jeremy are going to compete for Franny. Yuck.
Yea, I’m still watching it, but I agree with the posters who said we need more time in the bank and less time out of it. Thursday’s ep was a bit sluggish until we find the entire group assembled in Felicia’s living room and they start telling her what happened. I perked up at that turn. There is a lot more to this we don’t know yet, and I for one am willing to hang in for a while longer.
I like this show. I am interested in what actually did go on in that bank, but also, and this is the most important part, I really like these characters. Audrey from 24, the principal from Boston Public, one of the brothers from Wings, the kid from Party of Five – I mean I actually do like and care about them all. Also, I know some are annoyed by Egan Foote (with an E) but since I have a thing for underdogs, I am pulling form him.
Sure beats Invasion from last season.
I admit Egan annoys me, but it was great this week how he was so excited thinking he could find an incredible new job — only to realize that being a ‘hero’ doesn’t mean the easy road, with only cubicle jobs presented.
This show has already lost me. It just hasn’t grabbed me. The best thing it has going for it – is that if follows “Lost” (but of course that didn’t help “Invasion” last season)

I think The Nine is going to be like Invasion: a slow pot boiler. But hey, was Felicia’s phone always a pink Razr?
Mmm…
The Nine is an interesting show, but they need to reveal more about what happened during the bank robbery. We see how it starts and somewhat ends in the pilot, we get no glimpse during the second episode and we finally see what happens during the first hour.
While I don’t mind seeing what happens after the incident (though the cell phone convo during the baby searching scene fell flat), I want to see more of the bank robbery. At this point, Felecia’s the only character that’s intriguing. Unless there’s a big fallout or mystery that’s going to happen, this show will be going downhill fast.
I agree with whoever mentioned the Nine’s pacing feels just like Invasion’s. I’ll still watch it, but I wish more of the bank robbery could be revealed instead of bits and pieces of it.
Watched first 2 episodes, taped the others but can’t bring myself to watch… guess I’m not into it, it lost me on the 2nd episode…. too slow.
