I’m going to stick with Brothers & Sisters if it kills me! By the end of the season, it just might. Last night’s episode contained enough melodrama to keep a panic-stricken look on my face at least until Wednesday. Little Paige was diagnosed with diabetes amidst a tearful odyssey that included prayer time in the hospital chapel and ended with a ceremonial toast of "cheap" (yeah right) wine around the kitchen island. There was also the family portrait fiasco (have none of them heard of Photoshop? It’d be so easy to just Google-search Ally McBeal and be done with it), Tommy’s shunning of Justin the Hot Junkie (Dave Annable, pictured), and a three-way brawl among Kitty, Nora, and Kevin that seemed like it was being played out on a stage instead. And there was a lot of sighing. The rich, dysfunctional white people keep sighing! We should feel sorry for them!
I’m most interested to see if Hot Junkie will clean up his act and get to keep his new job as a bellboy. He’s working under a girl from his high school who clearly wants him bad — the only possible explanation for her not firing him after finding him writhing around wasted on the floor. That girl reminds me of Elisha Cuthbert. She looks like she was originally cast to be an exotic dancer but then they changed their minds and dressed her in a power suit instead. It worked!
But, agh! New characters! I’m still having trouble with the originals. Sarah has a stepson? I never noticed. There’s also a very pretty (and consistently acknowleged as such) woman who appears to be Tommy’s wife. She may have had one line, but I can’t even imagine her speaking. Maybe they’ll go into how she became a mute in future episodes. More teary hospital chapel scenes! I’m in!
What’d you think?

right on annie! you nailed it! hilarious!
I’m loving this show. The one thing that annoys me though is that all of the melodrama seems to be cleared up by the end of each show and then starts back up again for the next. Would Hot Junkie really be welcome in the new family photo? It was too happy an ending for last night’s episode. Someone needs to get arrested already. And I think that someone should be Sarah.
Sally Field, Ally McBeal, Brenda, The Gay Brother, The Junkie, The Little Girl with Diabetes, and Saul.
Don’t think I’d notice if any of the other characters went missing.

I heart this show something FIERCE!
Tuned into Brothers & Sisters for Rachel Griffiths (“Bren” of Six Feet Under), but am sticking around for Sally Fields. What a believable mess of a mother she is. So far, it’s the show’s so-called star – Calista Flockhart — who really grates. Is her face frozen in that slight smirk? I thought “Ally McBeal” was a great stage actress, so how is that Rachel Griffiths blows her off the screen in their scenes together.
Annie, don’t you try to steal my official Countdown Clock for when Tommy’s wife either a) starts speaking or b) has an actual personality other than being blonde. She did have a name because Hot Junkie Justin said it, but now I can’t remember it. Oh well. (I would love to be the actress btw – she gets paid and all she has to do is show up and she gets to be opposite Sally Field, Rachael Griffiths and Calista Flockhart. Sweet job.)
Last night’s ep was fantastic and hit a little too close to home. As a gay son of a mom who uses me as her personal “going out” companion, I really felt for Kevin but if Scotty can so quickly replace him than he shouldn’t even bother. Loved how Sarah didn’t even notice her daughter was getting paler by the minute because she was so a) busy and b) annoyed by Kitty talking with her husband. That guy that’s in love with Kitty lays it on a bit thick, no? And I thought the girl with the hots for Hot Junkie looked more like Jodi Lyn O’Keefe. Any other thoughts? No. I think that’s it, till next week.
Does anyone else think Kevin looks like he could be Julian McMahon’s (Nip/Tuck’s Dr. Christian Troy) brother? Maybe for sweeps an interesting crossover episode could involve the rich, dysfunctional family going to Miami for some “freshening up” at McNamara/Troy.
Tommy’s wife is named Julia.
I think you suck at this, Annie. Where’s Slezak?
I am only watching this show for one reason and one reason ONLY: John Pyper-Ferguson who plays Joe (Sarah’s husband). He was soooo brilliant as Pete Hutter on “Brisco County Jr.” and I am glad just glad to watch him every week. And yes, Kevin definitely looks like Julian McMahon!!!
This show has sucked me right it! And it’s all because of the amazing cast. The women are obviously the reason to watch, but I think all the men have held their own pretty well. The hotel manager chick looks like that main girl from last season’s awful SURFACE on NBC.
I don’t know why all the hate against Calista? I think she’s doing a good job, but her character needs to get a more interesting storyline. The whole boyfriend from New York vs. the new coworker is rather lame compared to the rest of the family’s problems.
How many episodes before Sarah cheats on her husband with her ex co-worker who appears to be the only black guy in California? Justin O.D.’s on something? Kitty appears as a guest on the Bill O’Reilly show?
Did I miss something? Didn’t this woman’s husband just die and didn’t she just discover that he’s been cheating on her for the last 15 years? Couldn’t her self-centered son have a little bit of compassion for her instead of whining about being her companion while his boyfriend runs out immediately to replace him? And to top that off, her own brother was covering for her husband. Instead of being so self-absorbed, these kids should have Mom on a suicide watch. I can’t wait until she finds out that not only was her husband a cheating jerk but he was also an embezzler.
I love this show. The writing is sharp and witty especially coming from the mouths of the gay Julian McMahon look-alike and Rachel Griffiths, who steals every since she is in with her natural acting. It feels like brotherly/sisterly version of ABC’s former 30something, even down to the bell-like music played from scene to scene. It’s a light-hearted show peppered with some heavy drama but sometimes, it feels like there are too many people, it’s too busy hence the nameless and mute wife of one of the brothers. I’m sure a lot of families can relate to some of the dysfunction junction in this primetime soap.
I really like this show and i’m sticking to it…not only because Sally Field is amazing, Calista is great and Rachell is even better, but I’m also wondering
if the blonde so-far-mute wife will ever speak and also waiting to find out if the gay guy is ever gonna get laid…. get him a date already!….oh! and the HOT junkie! is so HOT!
oh! one last thing… the shady uncle SAL looks even creepier to me because he was the bad guy from ALIAS!, so thanks but no thanks I rather make my money-investements on my own! no mony for ya!
