The Republicans didn’t need this: GOP favorite Sara Evans has announced that she’s divorcing her husband and leaving Dancing with the Stars to spend time with her family. ”Recent events that shed light on the status of her marriage prompted Ms. Evans to make the filing,” her record label said in a statement. (This is where a lesser person would make a joke about her husband not supporting her decision to use music from The Phantom of the Opera for the paso doble, but I am not that person. Especially after reading why she filed.)
Evans will reportedly make her final appearance on Oct. 17 — when, that other person would also note, she’d probably have gone home anyway. Her adorable dance partner, Tony Dovolani (pictured, with Evans), has already said that her impending departure took him by surprise, for what it’s worth.
We wonder what kind of missive former Republican Congressman Tom DeLay — who penned a letter asking party members to ‘’send a message to Hollywood and the media that smut has no place on television” by voting for GOP supporter Evans — will write now? Somehow, we think he won’t be taking shots at Jerry Springer again, now that the man has won America over by learning the waltz for his daughter’s wedding.
Because this may be the last time you PopWatchers pay attention to Miss Sara, I would like to say the following: She really is far more entertaining and sexier than you think she is.

How much you wanna bet that her dance partner is just acting surprised, we’ll be seeing pics of them in US Weekly in about a couple of weeks…The GOP couldn’t handle another scandal so they asked if she would resign so she could focus on “Family”.
This is the one show I’m sorry I didn’t get into. I keep forgetting to tivo it. OH well, I saw Mario Lopez naked on Nip/tuck, which will be enough.
Love this post!
I think it is really sad Sara is going through this situation now that she was getting more press, there are many who have never even heard her sing and she is the best Country Female vocalist there is and she also sings pop in her concerts…so sad such an awesome person is going through a divorce.
She should’ve just stayed on and kept quiet about her personal life. Now that Jerry’s such a fan favorite, she’d surely be the next to go-go.
Is the typo in the first clause just a typo, or evidence of the snide entertainment media’s liberal bias?
I find it ironic that the GOP are using her to send a message to Hollywood. She almost fell out of her cowgirl costume! What if we would have had another NippleGate? What about the children?!
D’oh! Sorry, HH, it was just a typo. Thanks for catching it. It’s fixed now.
not surprising that even a show like this is politicized by the liberal media. that start up line makes no sense on a dancing show. the woman is getting divorced! democrat or republican that is sad.
EW’s snark is one of my favorite things about the magazine/website, but sometimes I really think it’s too much.
Sara Evans has been married for a long time, they have three kids, and now she’s getting a divorce. It’s a sad thing for anyone to go through, why is it okay to be so rude about it because she’s on a tv show?
By the way, if EW actually paid any attention to country music, you would know how talented Sara really is. And I’m not some back-country redneck, I’m a left-winger who’s not from the south.
She may be as entertaining as hell, but the girl danced like she had a broom up her butt.
Okay, I’m a big ol’ gay democrat, but do we have to make EVERYTHING political. It takes the fun out of it, and it just plain wears me out.
She getting a divorce, which is unfortunate – though the timing IS wierd. I would just have waited until I was eliminated, and not make a big stink…
i personally do not care that she can sing or is a republican or that she’s getting a divorce… i only care that she is finally getting off the show… its a little sad though that she didnt get voted off like she shouldve but instead is quitting… she shouldve been voted off weeks ago instead of vivica… she was a horrid dancer…
Ed- that’s too bad – it was pretty funny the other way. And BTW folks, this post is about (1) the absurdity of a high-ranking politico who spends his supposedly valuable time rallying support for a contestant on a televised dance competition and (2) the maelstrom that no doubt ensues among said politicos when the “family values” they supposedly espouse are endangered by ever-unpredictable real life. I think you might be missing the point (perhaps deliberately) if you construe this as the “liberal media” revelling in another person’s marital troubles…
Dear lord, when will people realize, THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS NOT LIBERAL!
Poor Tom DeLay. His pick is quitting. Boo-Hoo.
I do agree that we need to stop politicizing entertainment. Who cares who’s liberal or conservative in Hollywood; let’s just have our fun like we used to.
This is just a television show to say to producers (record, television, and movie)”hey remember me?”. Seriously, I had no clue who Willa Ford was, and wasn’t Van Amstel’s partner also the girl who can physically multiply from “Sky High?”
If Sara was doing this for charity, then I can see her staying. Still, if she is really going through a rough patch then this should be the time to say adieu to the show.

To Jim: my thoughts exactly. When you see how close the dancers have to interact and rehearse it makes you wonder. Karina has split with her boyfriend & Mario is making goo-goo eyes at her. But honestly, Sara did not seem “into” the dancing thing. I don’t know what the payoff would have been for her. Most stars do these shows to further their career. If she’s so successful doing 200 shows a year, then what was her payoff out of this?
Apparently, her court filing (www.tennessean.com) said that her husband committed adultery, having sex with women he solicited on Craigslist, and he had over 100 photos of his aroused gentials on his PCs. One of his kids caught him watching porn about 2 weeks ago, and this probably set off the revelations.
Also..her husband screamed at her for letting a costume designer from DWTS in her LA home with the kids around because he was a “sodomite”. Not a nice guy to her, was he?
I did not know her husband was looking to be a congressman.. very interesting.. http://www.schelskeforcongress.com/contact.htm I guess republicans are flawed beings after all..
Sara is one of my favorite Country Music singers and I am very sad for her that she is going through this. I have read some of the different opinions, especially those having to do with her husbands political situation. If he was indeed having an affair or affairs, then I certainly don’t blame Sara for divorcing him and doing it immediately. I respect her more than ever for taking a stand against this sort of behavior. When a politicians wife stays with her husband for the sake of ‘politics’ after it comes out that he has been unfaithful, I think it sends the wrong message to our society and especially to our children. My heart goes out to Sara and her children.
First Mark Foley, and now this? The GOP and especially Tom DeLay must be hyperventilating. Sara is gone. Good riddens.
Who cares she is a Republican?! Does EW mention every time some celebrity/Democrat gets divorced, goes to rehab, etc? Very intersting prism.
PS- Sara Evans is a HORRIBLE singer. She was very attractive and they tried to turn her into the next Faith Hill. When she sings she sounds like she has very bad allergies.
That is sad to hear for Sara on a personal level. If her husband is a cheat, then I am glad she was strong enough to get rid of him. Once a cheat, always a cheat. Mario is the cheaters mascot!! I never really thought Sara was a good dancer but she comes across on a personal level as a good person and she really is a good country music singer. I wish her the best.
it is sad that EW is playing political gimmicky when somebody’s life is taking such a sad turn, it is such a sorry time to live in when America actually finds this amusing.Sara lasted on the show because of the fans…and i bet whatever that had she stayed on she would have continued being voted for by the fans to stay. She is one of the top three best female country singers and people just bashes her because they have nothing better to do.Again a sad time to be an American and a human being.
I feel sorry for the personal problems that Sara is going through, but now WILLA and MAX should be brought back to the show. Willa and Max were FAR SUPERIOR dancers and the show shouldn’t be a POPULARITY contest for those who have a larger fan base. Sara can sing……but she couldn’t dance as well as Willa.
BRING BACK WILLA! PLEASE!
Sad time to be an American? Because of a tv show? Get your priorities straight – DWTS is a diversion from our serious problems – nothing more, nothing less.
She should be applauded for putting her kids first. Period.
You know it is no ones business what is going on with Sara, and her personal life. We are a sad people that we are so obessed with handling everyone elses personal affairs instead of dealing with our own. We need to learn to leave people ALONE!!!! We ALL have our skeletons in the closet, no one in PERFECT,,,, NOT EVEN YOU….Sara is a great person, so leave her and her family alone. But for the grace of God goes YOU!!!
