The Republicans didn’t need this: GOP favorite Sara Evans has announced that she’s divorcing her husband and leaving Dancing with the Stars to spend time with her family. ”Recent events that shed light on the status of her marriage prompted Ms. Evans to make the filing,” her record label said in a statement. (This is where a lesser person would make a joke about her husband not supporting her decision to use music from The Phantom of the Opera for the paso doble, but I am not that person. Especially after reading why she filed.)
Evans will reportedly make her final appearance on Oct. 17 — when, that other person would also note, she’d probably have gone home anyway. Her adorable dance partner, Tony Dovolani (pictured, with Evans), has already said that her impending departure took him by surprise, for what it’s worth.
We wonder what kind of missive former Republican Congressman Tom DeLay — who penned a letter asking party members to ”send a message to Hollywood and the media that smut has no place on television” by voting for GOP supporter Evans — will write now? Somehow, we think he won’t be taking shots at Jerry Springer again, now that the man has won America over by learning the waltz for his daughter’s wedding.
Because this may be the last time you PopWatchers pay attention to Miss Sara, I would like to say the following: She really is far more entertaining and sexier than you think she is.

How much you wanna bet that her dance partner is just acting surprised, we’ll be seeing pics of them in US Weekly in about a couple of weeks…The GOP couldn’t handle another scandal so they asked if she would resign so she could focus on “Family”.
This is the one show I’m sorry I didn’t get into. I keep forgetting to tivo it. OH well, I saw Mario Lopez naked on Nip/tuck, which will be enough.
Love this post!
I think it is really sad Sara is going through this situation now that she was getting more press, there are many who have never even heard her sing and she is the best Country Female vocalist there is and she also sings pop in her concerts…so sad such an awesome person is going through a divorce.
She should’ve just stayed on and kept quiet about her personal life. Now that Jerry’s such a fan favorite, she’d surely be the next to go-go.
Is the typo in the first clause just a typo, or evidence of the snide entertainment media’s liberal bias?
I find it ironic that the GOP are using her to send a message to Hollywood. She almost fell out of her cowgirl costume! What if we would have had another NippleGate? What about the children?!
D’oh! Sorry, HH, it was just a typo. Thanks for catching it. It’s fixed now.
not surprising that even a show like this is politicized by the liberal media. that start up line makes no sense on a dancing show. the woman is getting divorced! democrat or republican that is sad.
EW’s snark is one of my favorite things about the magazine/website, but sometimes I really think it’s too much.
Sara Evans has been married for a long time, they have three kids, and now she’s getting a divorce. It’s a sad thing for anyone to go through, why is it okay to be so rude about it because she’s on a tv show?
By the way, if EW actually paid any attention to country music, you would know how talented Sara really is. And I’m not some back-country redneck, I’m a left-winger who’s not from the south.
She may be as entertaining as hell, but the girl danced like she had a broom up her butt.
Okay, I’m a big ol’ gay democrat, but do we have to make EVERYTHING political. It takes the fun out of it, and it just plain wears me out.
She getting a divorce, which is unfortunate – though the timing IS wierd. I would just have waited until I was eliminated, and not make a big stink…
i personally do not care that she can sing or is a republican or that she’s getting a divorce… i only care that she is finally getting off the show… its a little sad though that she didnt get voted off like she shouldve but instead is quitting… she shouldve been voted off weeks ago instead of vivica… she was a horrid dancer…
Ed- that’s too bad – it was pretty funny the other way. And BTW folks, this post is about (1) the absurdity of a high-ranking politico who spends his supposedly valuable time rallying support for a contestant on a televised dance competition and (2) the maelstrom that no doubt ensues among said politicos when the “family values” they supposedly espouse are endangered by ever-unpredictable real life. I think you might be missing the point (perhaps deliberately) if you construe this as the “liberal media” revelling in another person’s marital troubles…
Dear lord, when will people realize, THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS NOT LIBERAL!
