I watched The Nine for the second time this week on ABC.com. Definitely go there if you want to see seven of Jon Lovitz’s Subway commercials!
The show’s still moving slowly, but I’ve never been one of those people who needs answers right away, at least on TV. (Whereas I need to know what I’m eating for dinner right now!) I like that we don’t know what happened between Felicia and Lucas (something sexual? maybe?) and I like that I can’t put my finger on why exactly I can’t stand Egan Foote. It’s not that his voice and demeanor are phenomenally annoying, although they don’t help. I think it has something to do with my not buying his total innocence. Before the robbery, he had that gun — I know he said it was for suicide, but he was acting really shifty in a way that didn’t have to mean suicide, not to mention the complete turnaround his character made from depressed another-brick-in-the-wall employee to wild ‘n’ out free spirit was just too forced. Something’s up with him.
Oh, and thanks for semi-ruining ”You Get What You Give” for me with Egan’s awful fountain-romping routine. Carrie Ann Inaba gives that a 2!
Two characters I’m digging: Nick and Kathryn (Tim Daly and Kim Raver, pictured). They’re not perfect, but I enjoyed the synchronicityof their storylines this week. Both defected from their defunct careerphilosophies long enough to assure each other of their trust, but thensnapped back to their own worlds at the very end. That won’t be forlong! (Or maybe it will, given how slowly things are moving.)
After Scott Wolf’s Jeremy, who plays classical music while he doessurgery (eerie and awesome), lost a patient, he ended up injectingsomething deadly into Randall, who was conveniently right down thehall. (Huh??) Randall flatlined just in time for the calmingpoint in the week’s montage-friendly pop song of choice (Coldplay’s ”Amsterdam.”) Scott Brown hated last week’s montage, but I can’t liefor the sake of solidarity. I kind of loved this one. I’m a sucker forclever timing. Also goosebumps.
Did enough happen on The Nine to draw you in for another ep?And who else noticed that in the final labeling of the nine peeps, Evahad been replaced by Lucas?

Unfortunately the show lost a lot of episodes after last week’s episode, but maybe if enough people view it online like Annie here, they’ll take that into consideration. I personally am loving it. I don’t know about season two, but I have a feeling season one is well thought out and I hope it makes it to the end of the season — without a major cliffanger a la “Invasion”.
Of course, I still think ABC should have never cancelled “Eyes”…
This show is “Windfall” 2.0
Here are the reasons why:
1. Casting of Jack Bauer’s ex lover? Check! (Kim Raver, Sarah Wynter)
2. Ex-90’s FOX Heartthrob? Check! (Scott Wolf, Luke Perry)
3. Everyone is connected before/after the event? Check!
4. Sappy dialogue for the secret affairs? Check!
5. Soft camera shots of everyone at different times crying? Check!
6. Lots of hype and no potential or viewers? Check!
Sorry everyone, this show is a goner.
Apparently I’m not the only one digging The Nine — yes, it’s ham-handed at times (the Egan fountain scene), but I like that they just started in the middle, with no answers, and slowly things will figure themselves out. Tim Daly is HOT and great, and amazingly, Kim Raver (whom I HATED in 24) is pretty good too. In fact, most of the acting is good, except Lucas and Felicia (but hey, she’s a teenager so she gets a pass), and I kind of like the choppy montages and flashbacks.
And networks executives: if you cancel the show (please dont’!), can we have some kind of wrap-up show so we know what in fact happened in the bank?
It’s worlds better than “Lost”. I’m sticking with it.
I work for an airline, and once spoke to Tim Daly on the phone, and he was kind of a jerk, so he annoys me a little bit. But this is a good show, and is worth watching for Kim Raver alone, she is all kinds of hot.
My wife and I tried to watch the premiere. She lasted 20 minutes before she got bored and left the room. I watched the entire thing, and found no compelling storyline. Plus, putting another deep, mysterious drama right after LOST is a really bad idea if you want to hang on to viewers. Most of us are too charged up to want to settle down and watch another hour of “pay close attention” programming.
Are you serious comparing this show to Windfall? That was an intriguing premise laden with lousy writing, acting, plotting and pacing. This one may suffer a bit from pacing for some viewer’s tastes, but succeeds with great acting, writing and … well, it’s a little too early to judge on plots but I have faith. Wish I could say the same of ABC.
I think this show’s been great so far, and I really hope it stays on. Side note: Between Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, The Nine, and Ugly Betty (not to mention the shows I’m not watching but seem to have gained a following, like Six Degrees and Men in Trees), ABC has become the hottest network on TV outside of HBO.
I really like this show, and hell what else is on? They moved Kidnapped, which I watched until The Nine came on. It kind of reminds me of Six Degrees, but I like the whole bank robbery angle and the fact that we have to watch every week to get another piece of the puzzle. I hope this is on long enough to find out what happened. I would watch Tim Daly sit in a chair for an hour… but still this is a good show.
Found this week’s episode a little slow, but I am not ready to give up on this one. If worse comes to worse, I will join Julie and just watch Tim Daly sitting in a chair. He is one HOTTIE!!
I think it’s cool that some people on the show really are connected. Chi McBride and Dana Davis play father and daughter on “The Nine.” During the 2000-2001 season of “Boston Public,” he played Principal Steven Harper. She guest starred as a student who was none-too-happy that Harper was dating her mother!
i heart the nine! more than that, i’m enjoying the generally more compelling, reality-free shows that the networks are offering. did anyone notice on the second episode that the guy who was egan’s boss was chip from kate & allie?
Letti scomparsa.
