If people don’t respect Streisand’s politics, and they disagree, then stay home — no one is forcing anyone to pay to see it. Just as I wouldn’t pay to see a Toby Keith concert, even if I did like his music, because he infuses his concerts with a right-wing b.s. Translation: we all have choices, so like Babs says, shut the f*** up. (Why doesn’t anyone report the cheering that she was met with?! The audience didn’t sit there in horror.)
It never ceases to amaze me that people want to believe Barbara is not political, even though she’s never made a secret about it. I was at a Madonna concert over the summer, and this couple in front of me was literally shocked that “there are so many gay people here,” and then huffed and puffed when she appeared on the mirrored cross and flipped the finger at George Bush. WAKE UP — YOU”RE AT A MADONNA CONCERT! Did they walk across the street from church and expect a bible study?!
As much as I like Barbra as an artist and might even agree with her political views, I do think it highly inappropriate to use whole segment of a concert as a political platform. A humorous quip here and there maybe, but not a whole drawn out skit, after all it’s not Sat. Night Live !
I agree with much that has been said here. People know full well that Streisand is a loud and proud liberal democrat so OF COURSE she’s going to take the opportunity of being on stage at MSG to make her opinions about Bush known. Why does this surprise anyone? And guess what? We live in America, she’s allowed to do it, end of story! I’m sick of people bashing celebrities who voice political views that disgree with the government, yet have absolutely no problem with the plethora of stars, singers, etc. (cough, Toby Keith!) that praise Bush. Free speech means having it both ways, so all those whiners out there need to lighten up. It also annoys me that the media chose to focus on her use of, GASP, the f bomb, and note on the thousands of people who cheered her for it.
Dave, I could not agree with you more. I am an independant simply because Democrats have become Republicrats and Republicans have become Democricans. It is ridiculous. I’d rather voice my own opinion because I am an American and it is my right.
However I do agree with Babs (even though I am not a fan of her music). G.W. has taken this faux war too far to the point where everyone is screwed- including the people who currently reside in Iraq. However, I am not going to boo people who disagree.
How can you go to a Streisand concert and not know liberal veiws will be expressed? She’s made her politics public for years now. I went to see Green Day expecting anti-Bush remarks and loved every one.
Meshuga!
Having been a Barbra fan for 20 years and some, I am disgusted that the price of her forthcoming convert in London, outprice the real fans. It would be my lifes ambition to see barbra live, but I am out-priced, she would do well to remember who put her where she is!!
If you watched the Oscars tonight, the almost total silence of the audience when Barbara came on stage was deafening. Was it her outfit, or was it a universal fear of what next is she going to politicize.
