Snap Judgment: 'The Nine'

The Nine may have solved a TV pilot’s most irksome problem: clunky exposition. How? By making it impossible. Read the full post.

How is it that sooo many beautiful people end up at the same bank at the same moment? (John Billingsley excepted) Where are the normal people? At another branch? I’m just sayin’.
Otherwise, I agree with Josh – best pilot since “Lost.”

Totally reminds me of Inside Man! I have been thinking the same thing since the promos came out.

Nine = inside man, almost lifted the first show direct from the movie…but I’ll be watching. Is Kidnapped cancelled — this is what I predicted with NBC which is notorious for cancelling shows before they find an audience. Why would any right-minded producer want to sell a show to NBC? Kidnapped didn’t have a chance…the only criticism is that the kidnap should have happened at the end of the first show or beginning of 2nd.

Yes, similar to “Inside Man” and “Ugly Betty” is like “Devil Wears Prada”. WHO CARES? Both will explore the worlds more in-depth as only TV can do, and so far both are GREAT. Oh, I should throw in “Friday Night Lights” too, similar to, well, you know, but also with much promise.

I enjoyed THE NINE last night, and though I also surprisingly enjoyed the INSIDE MAN this past Spring, the only similarities I see thus far is that there was a bank robbery with hostages, thats it. I unlike, probably ALL of you, have never watched one single episode of LOST, so I’m not as enamored with ABC on Wednesday nights, but I do intend to keep watching THE NINE, but I suspect, that thw writer of this blog is correct in saying that fleshing this out as a series could prove difficult, much akin to how many viewers complained Season 2 of LOST didn’t answer as many questions overall in the end. You can only drag a plot line out before so long until before viewers get bored, but I hope that in THE NINE’s case it’s at least for a few seasons!
Also, can we get some VERIFICATION here, did NBC really cancel KIDNAPPED? I’m glad I didn’t get into it, and instead chose Fox’s earlier VANISHED, eventhough I was not happy with what they did this past monday night, and I should have KNOWN when Edie Cibrian’s name appeared in the guest credits.
Also, yes, the Sallinger brothers are both docs on ABC on Wed. nights now, but technically Scott Wolf was also a doc on the WB’s now defunct EVERWOOD for the past few seasons….

Just watched it, good stuff. Kim Raver is the reason I gave it a chance, and I’m glad I did, it’s very well done, I’ll be sticking with it.
As for it being like Inside Man, that movie was a mildly entertaining take on Dog Day Afternoon, so it’s not like Inside Man was terribly original. Quick Change is the comedy version of the bank heist gone wrong movies, the genre has it’s own parody, so lighten up. No, the idea of a bank heist isn’t original in and of itself(nor was it when Inside Man came out), but it’s all in the execution, and from the looks of it, this is a good show.

I found the beginning fast-paced and the second half a bit slower while all those characters were developed. The true test will be weeks 2 and 3. If there is a focus on a smaller number of characters in each episode and more in-depth knowledge of their past, then this show can becom a Lost.
