Is Emma Watson about to dump 'Harry Potter'?

Categories: Books, Film, Harry Potter

This just in from the Office of Straight-From-The-Set! Movie Buzz: Newsweek caught up with Emma Watson on the set of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and the 16-year-old actress sounded noncomittal about reprising the role of Hermione Granger for the final two installments of the blockbuster film series that made her famous. Of course, since Watson doesn’t speak our language, we decided to call in a British-to-American translator (with a minor in teen lingo) to help us determine what’s the big idea.

Quote: ”Every film is such a huge production, and it’s a long time.”
Translation: ”I am, like, so totally over the Harry Potter look. Black robes? Neckties? Haven’t these wardrobe people ever heard of Juicy Couture or Jimmy Choo?”

Quote: ”Daniel and Rupert seem so sure…”
Translation: ”Let me break it down for you: Only one of us is getting hotter with each progressive sequel. And it ain’t Maggie Smith.”

Quote: ”I love to perform, but there are so many things I love doing.”
Translation: ”I’m currently in the studio with Lindsay Lohan’s producers, working on my major label debut, I Belong to the Me I Am (Super Raw).”

Quote: ”I’ve been given such an amazing opportunity, but I’ll just have to go with the flow.”
Translation: ”I am so locked in to playing Hermione till I’m 37, not even my firstborn and a kidney could get me out of it.”

That line about Dan and Rupert seeming “so sure” is about whether or not they want to be actors for the rest of their lives! Way to take things out of context, Slezak.

  • Ed

    That’s way too funny Michael!
Two more installments playing the same role? Wow, that does appear to be a huge commitment. Talk about walking into a type cast. Good luck girl.

  • Scott

Hasn’t she been saying that during the production of every movie? At least the last two. I don’t think she should be worried about being typecast. Out of anyone, I think she stands the best chance of having a post-Harry Potter career.

  • Robert

If she waits two years, she can be engaged to Aaron Carter for a week. That’ll give her something to look forward to during the filming of the 6th movie.

  • Aron

Well I knew it was a matter of time before one of them got greedy. Turns out the little girl was it….shocker!

  • brandonk

I really hope she is locked in to play Hermione forever, cuz I wouldn’t want anyone else to do it. I don’t even like that they changed Professor Flitwick’s makeup or replaced Richard Harris. I guess that last one was kind of necessary, but I don’t have to like it!

You’re all being too hard on her. Give her some credit for having a life outside Harry Potter, or at least wanting one. She signed on for this when she was a child, all she wants to do is grow up and assert herself. Don’t we all?

  • Patti

That is all well and good, but where are the links to the hot pics of Dan?

  • Howard

Gotta remember that she is the only one so far who hasn’t done a non-Harry project. Plus, the entire British population would hate her if she bolted now, and that would affect her chances of getting accepted at most English universities. When she finishes at 20, she won’t be so far behind that she can’t go to university at that point, get a degree in whatever she pleases and live off the millions that she’ll make off of movies 6 and 7. Stay the course, Emma.

I hope those kids are making BIG money for being in these films!!!
You always hear about how much other actors are making but never anyone from any of the Harry Potter films.
Harry Potter films are making A LOT, hope some of it is going to the actors!

  • fredric

All of the actors have at one time or another talked about the commitment of doing the HP films and how they long to do other things. I think she’ll stay the course, but I think if she were getting other offers like the boys were, she’d be somewhat less vocal about it.

molehill + Michael Slezak = Mountian

  • Michelle

Ceej has got it, in three words, no less! Amazing!

  • Michelle

Okay, four words. But I’m counting “Michael Slezak” as one word. Sue me.

  • RedRidingHood

Good riddance to Emma! She shouldn’t let the door hit her on the way out. Seriously, a chick who equates acting to being bossy on every line, no matter what she’s saying won’t be missed by this viewer. The fact that she perpetuates the super-skinny sterotype won’t be missed either, since Hermione the character would be likely to roll her eyes and shake her head in dismay were she to experience Emma Watson.

  • Lorenzo

The funniest thing I today or it is yesterday? Whatever. Thanks Slezak.

  • Ross

A 37-year-old Ms. H? Warner Bros: put this on the fast track! I’d pay ten dollars or even eleven dollars to see that!

  • Maria

No Emma, that’s a bad Emma!

  • Dave

Emma, don’t walk away from something that has made you famous and earned you (I assume) a ton of money. Take a good thing for what it’s worth, finish the series, and then move on and bank on your success. Eh, who am I kidding, just do the last two so another actress doesn’t come along and screw up one of the most important characters in the series!

  • lauren

I actually just read an article about this very topic. I don’t want to see another actress in the role, but I also understand her hesitancy at delaying college and promising 4 more years of your life (when you’re 16, that’s a big chunk!). But the producer or someone was quoted in the article as being ‘cautiously optmistic’ because she’d had the same concerns through the last two movies and still stuck with it. I bet she’ll stick around; I suspect it’s easier to commit to one movie at a time than 4 whole years all at once.

  • GeeMoney

Doesn’t matter if she wants to do them or not. She’s under contract!

  • Lisa

She should stay. To have any of the characters change now would be a mistake.
Also, I’ve seen some of the pix from the next movie, and thank goodness the boys have cut their hair! I hated that shaggy look from Goblet of Fire!

  • BigBadWolf

    RedRidingHood,
Emma isn’t super skinny! Maybe you’re just super fat! Don’t be hateful and jealous, you cow. You’re the only moronic person that wouldn’t miss her. Go back to your trough.

  • california

“Seriously, a chick who equates acting to being bossy on every line, no matter what she’s saying won’t be missed by this viewer” -RedRidingHood
Um, dude, that’s Hermione’s character. She’s a bossy know it all and if you read the books she’s even more bossy and up tight in there. Emma does good as Hermione, though her eyebrows need to stop wriggling so much!

Emma Watson may Ditch Harry Potter Movies

I for one really hope Emma Watson does NOT decided to bow out of the Harry Potter movies. She cannot be reaplaced any easier than Harry could. I understand what she is thinking – she will be around 20 when

Emma appears to be completely unaffected by her celebrity. “I hope my head doesn’t get very big,” she says. “I’m just going to keep my feet on the ground,
