Dear The Today Show,
When is Meredithcoming? I know from your ads that she is imminent. Also, I know that sheis the "mother of the year" and likes to "spice things up!" And thatAnn Curry is doing a remarkablejob of keeping lasers from shooting out of her eyes every time she saysMeredith’s name. But what I don’t know is WHY IT IS TAKING SO LONG FORHER TO GET HERE.
Yes, yes. We know she gets heretomorrow. (Come back tomorrow morning for PopWatch’s take on Meredith’s first day.) It has been beaten into our skulls with the weight of athousand boiling sledghammers. But what we’d like to do is look back atthe inanity of the Today show of summer 2006. They showed a montage thismorning of all the anchors who have wandered through their outdoor dog-and-pony show over the course of the summer, and it was staggering. Itwas like the senior slide show at church camp. I’m surprised theydidn’t accompany it with Green Day’s maudlin "Time of Your Life (Good Riddance)." Look! There’s David Gregory doing somethingwacky! Look! There’s Al Roker doing something equally wacky! Look!There’s some random, vaguely ethnic brunette girl we had on for a weekthat one time! Look! There’s Matt Lauer acting pleasantly amused by allof it when you know all he’s thinking is "When can I get back to thegym to work my abs?"! Look! Ann Curry isstill keeping it in check, my God, she’s BRILLIANT!
What was your favorite moment from thislong, hot summer in Today, PopWatchers? (If you don’t say "That onetime Whitney was on talking about Tom Cruise," you are dead to me.)And could they have drawn out this Vieira Watch (OMG 23 HOURS AND 8MINUTES) any longer? And do any of you even care anymore?

I loved it when Whitney was on talking about Tom Cruise. That just really did it for me. Anyway, I still think Meredith’s arrival is a big deal but definitely anticlimactic considering Rosie and Katie are already fast pros in their new jobs. Like, hurry up already. Viewers get excited about big transitions like this, but we also love routine and stability. I fear that a lot of us are already too busy simmering down from Rosie and Katie to notice that more change is on the horizon.
If Whitney had told us she was going to be on the Today show, I would have actually turned on my television in the morning to see it.
As of today, I have given up watching ‘The Today Show.’ I hate Meredith Viera with the power of 1000 burning suns. Yes, hate. Strong word, I know but I’ve hated each and every one of those “women” on ‘The View’ since it first aired, with Meredith drawing most of my ire. I can only guess that she’s going to natter on about her freaking kids or husband (neither of which I care about). Here’s a news flash Mrs. Viera, no one gives two craps about you or your family!!
Sadly, when I left for work today I bid farwell to a show I’ve been watching for quite some time. It brought me through high school, college, one cross-country move, and now Meredith has come by with her grabby hands and taken it all away. ‘Today Show’ I bid thee a fair farewell.
The random, vaguely ethnic brunette girl ethnic guest co-anchor was Telemundo reporter Maria Celeste Arraras. It was nice seeing (hearing) someone on “Today” with a Spanish accent. Her accent got my attention while I ate my wheat toast that morning.
I loved Kathy Griffin’s swipes at that moron, Ann Coulter (“Who wears a coctail dress at 7 AM”?)
totally read my mind–in so many ways–Ann Curry IS doing a good job of being gracious–the Today show has overlooked her long enough–time for her bigger and better to come through!
Why didn’t Ann Curry get that job again?
My only guess as to why it’s taking so long for Meredith to arrive is they want to roll her out (kind of makes her sound like a keg, doesn’t it?) with the New and Improved! studio. It isn’t like they’re re-vamping the Today formula. If it takes Meredith two months to learn how to read from a teleprompter, interview guests and act geniunely interested in the outdoor audience then I’d say she wasn’t qualified to begin with.
Folks, Ann Curry is a terrific news reader, but she can’t improvise to save her life. If she’s not on page, she doesn’t know what to say. It’s painful, and until she learns how to think on her feet (and not be so fake with her sentiment), she is not meant for the second in charge slot.
Meredith Vieira is joining “Today”? I had no idea…why don’t they PUBLICIZE these things?
So I guess she and Katie will make a formidable interview team…What?…What do you MEAN Katie is now Dan Rather? Are you KIDDING me? Guess I better get my TV fixed, eh?
OMG…I am ready to throw up over the cloying, stupid Ann Curry who does not know how to do anything but read a teleprompter. “Today” has been so dummied down with her in the co anchor seat. She has no wit, no curiosity, no knowledge about anything. Meredith has to be an improvement.
I’ll be glad to get Meredith Viera in the anchor’s seat. She seems like a fun, perky person, which is what you really need in a morning show. Also, I don’t think she’ll try to act like she’s a hard-hitting journalist, since the Today Show doesn’t do a lot of hard-hitting journalism. Or any at all, really, unless you count Ann Curry reading the day’s headlines (which is all she’s really good for).
Mel darling why so much hate? It’s not good for you and guess what it is just a show, who gives a rats ass about those A**holes! Breath!

I love every time Campbell Brown is on…SHE should have had this job…LOVE HER….and I love Natalie Morales as well. I’ll give Meredith Viera a shot though…but we’ll see…..

While I like Meredith, I think that these months have allowed Ms.Ann Curry to shine, she is a wonderful news woman and when she smiles she looks beautiful…I hope she still gets airtime from now because she conveys a lot when she is on the air.On the other hand get rid of Matt Lauer, anybody making interviews without socks is to be away from UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, where is Meredith? Am I crazy or is she still not on the show? I think I saw her one or two times and it has been Ann since then. Is she only a part time co host?
I actually have a love-hate thing going with Meredith Viera…..I love to hate her, and I tune in to the Today Show in the morning to indulge my loathing over breakfast.
Why do I hate sweet, sugary Meredith? Because she’s smarmy. (If you look up “smarmy” in the dictionary, you’ll see her picture next to the definition.)
She’s also arrogantly rude. During an interview, she’ll constantly interrupt to ask one of her dumb questions because she thinks the interviewee might…..*heaven forbid*….be boring. (Actually, nothing is more boring than ol’ Meredith.)
And I’ll never forget the time she was hosting “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” and she actually coached a young female contestant out of selecting the wrong answer and toward the right answer. (Didn’t game show hosts used to get fired for that back in the ’50s?)
Although I watch the Today Show less and less, I still tune in hoping to see someone say something to ol’ Meredith that will wipe that stupid grin off her face.

Why would anyone in their right mind choose Meredeth Viera over Ann Curry. Not only does she seem just plain stupid but it looks as though she is wearing feed sack couture every day. Who dresses this woman?
