Rupert Everett dishes on his famous friends

Categories: Books, Madonna

10473__rupert_lGossiping is not nice. At least that’s what my mother always taught me when I was a young boy. And so it is with her stern warning in the back of my mind that I urge you not to click the following link, which will take you to the Daily Mail’s excerpt of Rupert Everett’s new autobiography, Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins. Certainly, it will not make you a better person to hear Rupert describe Madonna’s Material Girl look as "puppy fat and boot-boy legs squeezed into a tutu." Nor will the tale of Donatella Versace’s 1999 New Year’s Eve bash — during which Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow "huddled together like bullies" and directed "snorts of derision" at Jennifer Lopez — help enlighten you on your journey of personal fulfillment. Similarly, it will only taint your soul to soak up Everett’s reports from the set of The Next Best Thing — with Madge downing cocktails to prep for her on-screen smooch with Benjamin Bratt, and director John Schlesinger falling asleep behind the monitor. So pick up some Kafka, or Shakespeare, or Dan Brown — whatever your poison. Just don’t read the Everett excerpt. Trust me, by this time tomorrow, you’ll be thanking me. And, of course, my mom.

I love JLo & Rupert for the willingness to break the “think it, don’t say it” rule. Let’s hope the rest of the book has even more detailed dish.

  • jon

While I love the dish, hopefully Rupert won’t piss off too many people because I would like to see him in movies still… He’s actually a good actor and one of a few openly-gay men in Hollywood… Keep making movies (and “Shrek” doesn’t count)

  • Idolatry

A “Chinaman” opened the door? Madonna was “Satan” and he was ’sent to kill her’? I think I’ll take Rupert’s essay, and er, Rupert himself from now on, with a grain of salt.

  • Mario

    Sad…
why is it that all the gays that get some form of help from Madonna always seem to find a way to thank her by talking trash about her?
Jose & Luis: Madonna got them out of the club culture and took them on her biggest world tour (at the time), spoiled them with lavish gifts, helped produce their god awful single “The Queen’s English” and even sang back up on that same awful track and how did they repay her? Talked all sorts of trash and even tried to sue her for royalties to Truth or Dare (even though they had signed off release agreements to be filmed and signed away all rights).
Dennis Rodman: Ok, he’s a freak.. but did he need to disclose his intimate relationship with her?
and now this clown… I hope his career goes down the drain (ok, further down than it’s gone because he hasn’t been in a film in forever).

  • Ed

Oh my, I’m going to by this book, Rupert’s funny (editing always helps too).
Madge has forever been known as the “kiss of death”; look at Alantis Morrisette and Michelle Branch, both from Maverick Records, they went from 100 to 0 in 15 minutes flat. Madge’s Maverick Records has all but disappeared – the list goes on.
What really disappoints me is to know that Guy Richie is a huge homophobe (what’s that all about?). Gays are the backbone of Madge’s image and icon status…she better watch it or the Gay Mafia is going to turn on her.

  • Phil

Mario Dear! I know from various blogs how much of a HUGE Madge supporter you are, in fact I think you missed your calling as publicist for the diva, and I LOVE ya for it! But come on, whether its Madonna or Mary Chapin Carpenter, every Homo talks about EVERYONE of their friends INCLUDING THEIR CLOSE FRIENDS, its like genetic!!! So don’t be mad at all these homosexuals coming for your gal, its just in their nature. If you had the chance to actually meet and party with Madonna, you’d prolly be pressed ya never heard from her or got an Xmas card after that night!! haha Seriously, its all in smashing good British fun!!!

  • Ed

I’m deeply offended that Madge would marry a man who is a homophobe.
It doesn’t surprise me though, she has always been known to sell out her friends.
    Sell out
    Sell out
    Sell out
    Sell out
    Gays unite, over-throw the queen!

  • Mario

    Phil,
It’s great that you’ve noticed I am a Madonna fan, it would be rather odd that I’d comment on Madonna if I weren’t a fan.
But this theory: “every Homo talks about EVERYONE of their friends INCLUDING THEIR CLOSE FRIENDS, its like genetic!!!” is awfully flawed. As a proud homosexual, I can assure you that I don’t talk about my friends, or close friends as I was raised understanding and respecting friendships and trust. However, I do understand what you say because yes, many homosexuals think it’s the way a gay man is supposed to act. Bitchy, catty, gossipy, etc. It’s nice to see gays out there promoting the very stereotypes that are used to ridicule us and marginalize us as second class citizens.
Some gays, though live their gay lives proudly without having to live our lives the way society thinks they should but rather live their lives in ways that make them happiest WITHOUT living in a closet full of pretenciousness and bitterness.
I don’t find it a problem that gays live their lives however they seem fit, I said the gays Madonna has worked with (not all, some have never gossiped though they probably could have to make a quick buck and another chance at 15 minutes). I do find it sad and offensive that you, an obvious proud gay man would lump EVERYONE in the same box knowing that the very foundation of our struggle for equality is based on diversity.

This woman is 15 years well past her prime. Hang up the leggings & bow out gracefully – wait too late. Just go away already!!!

  • KlubJoker

Mario…LOVE ya! Seriously, but once again, this blog was about Rupert Everett!! I said what I said cause U spent the entire blog talkin about your Majesty Madonna once again, and one sentence about Rupert!!! I am not your typical Homo, I may say what I said, because I am observant and have seen many unfortunate homosexuals in the same light, but you are boxing Rupert in for doing the same thing I am criticizing about, calling out for being a Homo taking advantage of his relationship with Madonna. So how can u say you are saddened by my behavior or opinion when you’re calling this British gent out for THE SAME THING? I LOVE YA. POT CALL ME BACK, LOVE KETTLE! XOXO

  • duy

Jennifer Lopez calling out someone else for inability to sing or act? Pot. Kettle. Black.

  • Mario

Dear Kettle or Phil or KlubJoker or whatever you’re calling yourself today,
    here’s what I said:
“Sad…why is it that all the gays that get some form of help from Madonna always seem to find a way to thank her by talking trash about her?”
Notice I said: “all the gays that get some form of help from Madonna”
    Here’s what you said:
“every Homo talks about EVERYONE of their friends INCLUDING THEIR CLOSE FRIENDS, its like genetic!!!”
you didn’t specify the ones you know, one’s you’ve heard of or anyone in particular.. you said: “every homo talks about….”
I stayed within the context of the blog which was Rupert running his mouth and gossiping thus my comment was spot on. You, on the other hand generalized and boxed in EVERY HOMO instead of the homos I know, etc.. etc..
lemme know what you think, kettle.
    Love, Pot…

Madonna is a no talent snob. Her husband is a bigger snob than she is. What is the big deal? Her whole life is an open book. She has left nothing to the imagination. What trash is someone talking about her, that we already don’t know?

  • Phil

Lets just go get a Mojito & Margarita.I got nothin today. Well not nothin’, just no argument with ya! I’m rip into Clay in a few…LOL

  • Mario

    Phil,
let’s get both! :) glad you got no beef with me, I got no beef with you. Some peeps on blogs do take themselves too seriously so glad to see you don’t take these convos to heart. :)
    how you been anyway?

  • Phil

    hey Mario…
Doin good! Although I think I need ya to pop your head in on the Clay blog, cause I think the Claymates are about to get me all stirred up, and goin to make me say a few forward comments!
I’m doing good, sad to see summer ending. Kinda excited about a few of the new Fall Tv Shows, can’t wait for Justin’s cd next week, caught his private club tour 2 weeks ago, and the from what i heard live, the cd is goin to KICK SOME ASS ON THE CHARTS!
I actually tried a mojito again after we talked, and remembered why I stick to margaritas!!
P.S. Any news on the European release of “JUMP” for Madonna? Ever since Tower Records filed for bankruptcy their website doesn’t have any new release info on imports, which SUCKS.

  • blackpower

Rupert is the worse! STOP SNITCHING!!!

  • peaches

I never take anyones word for it unless I hear it from the horses mouth. Until I hear Guy Ritchie make homophobe comments publicly I have decided he is not hating on us gays.
I think Madge and her handsome husband should call their Lawyers and get a lawsuit going against Rupert’s slanderous remarks.

  • Millie

Phil, you sure get around. Poor Phil, loving a woman that would not give you the time of day.

  • Indianafan

Madonna gave us fans the greatest tour of all time. The tour sold out everywhere. The gross numbers speak for themselves.

  • Juju

Who cares? It is his job to be a walking Daily News.

  • jane

Her life is an open book;one I hope will be closed to the public some day in the near future. What is their to tell? She has disrobed for a book filled with her many lovers, and she has slept her way through Hollywood. What is their for anyone to tell?

I used the wrong there. And what I said still stands!

  • Millie

Tell it Rupert! Speak the truth. Tell it like it Is!
