Either I’m in a really good mood, or this trio of trailers looks pretty promising. Agree? Disagree? All must be revealed in the comments section below.
Driving Lessons (Oct. 13) There appears to be life after Harry Potter, at least for Rupert Grint, who headlines what looks like a supercute dramedy about a teenager who gets a job assisting a difficult British actress of a certain age. (Come to think of it, aren’t all British actresses of a certain age pretty difficult — at least in the movies?) Julie Walters leaves nothing but the skin over the bones of the scenery, but to be fair, the role kind of calls for it.
D.O.A.: Dead or Alive (Oct. 20) We don’t have Sydney Bristow to kick bad guys around anymore, so we’ll have to settle for Jaime Pressly, Devon Aoki, Holly Valance, and Sarah Carter doing the same in this videogame adaptation from director Corey Yuen (The Transporter). Any film in which a heroine can simultaneously put on her bra and pistol-whip a perp can’t be all bad, can it?
Killshot (TBD) It’s your basic on-the-run-from-a-Mafia-hitman thriller, classed up by an Oscar-nominated director (Shakespeare in Love‘s John Madden) and a very watchable cast including Diane Lane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rosario Dawson, and a very scary Mickey Rourke. I’m a little worried the trailer gives away every gunshot in the script, but several instances of Lane-Rourke faceoff looked pretty tense nonetheless.

I really love Rupert Grint. Maybe I’ll always picture him as Ron Weasley, but this movie seems really adorable…
You’re kidding about DOA looking good, right? Please tell me you are kidding…
“Driving Lessons” actually looks good! Julie Walters RULES.
It’s gonna be tough for him to shake playing Ron, especially when he stars opposite Mrs. Weasley in this one also.
Just the fact that Eric Roberts is in DOA makes me not want to see it. As soon as I saw his face, I was done with it. Driving Lessons looks cute, though. I’m looking forward to seeing it someday (since I live in Mississippi, I’ll probably have to wait for it to come out on DVD before I get the chance to see it).
I love Rupert Grint. I think he shows promise as an actor (and Ron is my favorite HP character). Even though it’s him and Mrs. Weasley it looks cute in it’s own right. Love Julie Walters and this looks like the same thing Professor McGona…..uh I mean Maggie Smith is doing in Keeping Mum: Having a ball!
I hope Rupert Grint is better in this movie than in the Harry Potter movies since he tends to overact in those. I won’t have any problem disassociating him with Ron Weasley since, except for the hair, he doesn’t come close to resembling the Ron Weasley that I formed in my imagination before those god-awful movies came out.
Ron Weasley is the best.
As a huge HP fan, I didn’t even make the connection about Julie Walters as Mrs. Weasley during the trailer for Driving Lessons. I kept imagining her in Billy Elliott.
AWESOME. Can’t wait.
I was waiting for Slezak opinion on Driving Lessons, because I watched the trailer and I really liked it, Rupert’s facial expresions are a hoot!
Awww….I heart Ron!
I saw this movie in Manchester (AMC) and it was me and 8 other girls, I am not a Rupert fan but I went to see the movie out of curiosity to see how Rupert acted outside the HP world, he looks good but he reminded me in some scenes of Ron Weasly, I think the movie was ok.
So much for its opening week
Driving Lessons opened at the 29th place of the box office with only £20,531 in 35 theatres and in its second week it did worst it open at the 33th place with only £9,687 in 36 theatres.
The movie was boring and very much the good all shy boy trying to break free from it, Walters was alright but Rupert showed a bit of emotions, he looked empty most of the time, I think that was the directors fault but surly he wasn’t my cup of tea on that movie.
I absolutely loved the film all the way through and it was all at the right pace and was just fab! I definitely recommend it to everybody who loves a laugh (and loves Rupert Grint) But I have to say, the the “nude” scene was quite upsetting
he wasn’t even nude
but still, it was def. worth it! I was a bit bewildered beforehand as to why it was rated a 15 but I soon realised why… there was quite a bit of swearing but i luvved it! haha! OOh and Rupert is hot when he says *beep* off haha it was so funny because I really didn’t expect him to say it the only swear word he’s ever said in a film was piss off and bloody so it was a bit of a surprise! Go and see it (if it’s showing near you!) it’s completely worth it! Julie Walters was a completely amazing actress too she really took to the role and made the whole story much more interesting! Brilliant cast and brilliant film! 10/10
I agree. Its an amazing little film which was a delight to watch. The cinema was packed. Thank god the film was 98 Minutes cause if it would have been more, my legs would have hurt, the seats at the private art house cinemas are horrible. Julie Walters as always is amazing. The same goes for Laura Linney, who excels as Ben’s overprotective mother. Now onto Rupert Grint who simply is a joy to watch, the scenes he has with Evie (Julie’s character) are pure magic. Rupert clearly has a lot of faith in Julie as a person and that trust and bond plays off really well since the scenes between him and Evie are pure cinematic magic. Even the scenes with Laura Linney are fantastic. Rupert clearly enjoyed doing this film and I hope Rupert can do more films away from HP cause he is not only becoming a movie star but also a truely excellent actor with a bright future ahead of him.
Also Michelle Duncan, who plays Bryony, is also a joy to watch and I hope I see more fo her in the future.
