Snap Judgments: Elton John and the Scissor Sisters (with Elton John)

Elton John, "The Bridge": Being totally honest, this isn’t a song I’d download (I just got an iPod for my birthday, and will, from here on out, pepper my sentences with "download," just like all the cool kids?), but I certainly wouldn’t switch the dial if it came on the radio. The haunting piano line reminds me ever so slightly of "Your Song" (which I’m a sucker for), and even though the lyrics are a little hokey-pokey ("Every one of us has to face that day/ Do you cross the bridge or do you fade away?"), Elton’s vocal sells it harder than Kathie Lee sells QVC. Which I mean in the best possible way.

Scissor Sisters, "I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’": If I could take a picture of this song, I’d paste it in my dictionary alongside the word "jaunty." And FYI, "jaunty" ranks in my top 10 words in the English language (especially when it precedes the words "hat," "cap," or "fedora.") Anyhow, seeing that my personal groove thing is pretty much always prepped for a little shimmy-shake — true confessions time: last Thursday night, after one too many libations, I made like Lindsay Lohan and danced on a banquette; yes, I am ashamed — I can’t really relate to the theme here, but Elton John’s rollicking piano and Jake Shears’ hypnotic falsetto are an irresistible combo. For the love of all that’s holy, America, make Scissor Sisters a household name already! If you don’t, I’m coming to your local banquette, and I guarantee, it won’t be pretty!

I love the new Scissor Sisters song. I was worried that the new song would pale in comparison to their last album, but the new song is fun!
I don’t think it will be a big hit in America since American radio ignores dance music or anything with a little camp in it!

    Oh, Slezak. I love you…

Finally someone recognizes the genius of the Scissor Sisters. One listen to their music and you wonder “Why can’t pop music today be more like this?” Instead of bombarding us with no-talented hacks, radio and TV need to give us the Sisters some much needed – and deserved – attention.

Love the new Scissor Sisters. It took me a while to figure it out, but elements of the song sound a lot like “Let Your Love Flow” by the Bellamy Brothers. No, really. Still, a great song — can’t wait to see ‘em live when they come to Toronto in October!

I love it. I love the Scissor Sisters, and I love the new song. I totally agree with the campyness of it. I think that it is fun, it says a lot, and it sounds good. We will be talking about this band for a long time to come.

Scissor Sisters! I hadn’t heard of this band until introduced to them by Trent’s blog (Pink is the new Blog) mentioned them. I’ve enjoyed their music ever since. Hopefully now that EW has professed their love for them as well we can enjoy them on mainstream radio.

I’ve been an Elton John fan for longer that most of the people above (I’m guessing) have been alive. LOVE “The Bridge.” Reminds me of the underrated “Blue Moves” LP. (Hey kids, I still have it, ON VINYL :-)

    Er, sorry, people BELOW…..

    Slezak…you rock my face!
    The Sisters rule!
    That is all.

The US radio won’t give Scissor Sisters any play because that would validate homosexuals and their “evil” homo agenda.
In my opinion, the Scissor Sisters are over-rated but hey, what do I know? All I know is that I won’t be spending my money on any of their albums.

Scissor Sisters played a free concert today in Trafalgar Square in London. ‘Laura’ is a great song. I love them, I wish they were recognized more in there home nation!
