Three links to start your day

93838__maria_l_1As part of my ongoing, sadistic plan to thwart your work productivity and get you berated by your boss, I present the following Friday-morning links. So quit pretending to read that deadly dull document on your desk, and join me in a few minutes of decadent procrastination. Resistance is futile!

-Warning: Today’s awesomely addictive YouTube link (brought to you by America’s Funniest Home Videos) may cause uncontrollable giggle fits, euphoria, and the sudden urge to produce or adopt a baby. Seriously.

-This TV ad for the Utah State Fair contains disturbing images of a singing cotton candy being eaten alive by a rogue container of French fries. Watch at your own risk.

-And, finally, is it just me, or is Maria Sharapova’s new Nike ad (pictured) about the most adorable thing since Project Runway‘s sadly eliminated Alison Kelly?

Hope y’all enjoyed. And now, in the words of Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly: ”That’s all.”

More evidence that Utah is wacked.

The babies are adorable, I’ve never wanted carnival food more than right now, and I like Maria Sharapova for the simple fact that she’s shacking up with Andy Roddick right now and living the dream of many women who watch tennis just to see his shirt fly up when he serves. Oh, is that just me?

in celebration of the wicked awesomeness of said videos. I am taking the rest of the day off, picking up a laughing baby, taking him to the fair and singing songs from West Side Story for the rest of the day.
PS: Whoever did that Nike commercial should get an award, to catch the delicate balance of watching a beautiful woman walk and then combining it with the fiercenesss of competition. that Maria comes as close to perfect woman as I have ever seen.

I’m a rabid women’s tennis fan and a rabid disliker of Maria Sharapova on court. She’s been slamless since 2004, has very few victories against top 10 players and gets the endorsements and recognition better, less attractive players deserve more. Her grunt is more annoying than Andy Roddick’s whining. But even I have to admit that her Nike commercial is pretty cool.

Did you see last year’s Utah State Fair commericals? They all starred Jon Heder as Napoleon and they were hilarious! They have got some crazy creative people in marketing over there. I want a giggle baby!

Oh my god, those babies are cute…and a little scary.

Give Maria a break, Annie. It’s not her fault she’s beautiful. It’s the culture we live in that is obsessed with beauty. What is she supposed to do? Turn down endorsements? “No, I don’t want your money, Nike, you see I haven’t won a slam in two years.” Ridiculous. She’s an incredibly accomplished player (with a Wimbledon title and #1 ranking) who is still growing into her game. I mean, really, who is she taking endorsements away from?

The food was creepy, the Sharapova ad brilliant, but those babies…. I’ve seen babies laugh like that, but four at a time? My abs are still hurting from laughing so hard (I even shed a tear or two).

  • Linda

Anna Kournikova was everywhere, and she never won anything. Give Sharapova a break Annie

  • Allison

I love the Sharapova commerical, I guess because I love anything musical-related. Her dangling earrings are so distracting, though!

  • Alana

Is that Meredith from Grey’s Anatomy with those babies??
    That is frightening.

  • Brandon

    The cotton candy liked it.

I love the Nike commercial. Especially because unlike anna kornikova or whatever her name is, this gal is hot and can PLAY. She’s awesome, love her! PS I am a 21 year old female from Cali.

I’m with you, Annie. Sharapova’s game is not as well-rounded as it should be, and her uneven results reflect that. She has shared her #1 ranking with several other players who are more consistent, but not as photogenic. And, I for one don’t find her beautiful. More like tall, willowy and blond, and apparently to Madison Avenue that’s all it takes to qualify as beautiful. Sorry, but I can make up my own mind, thank you. And I say that Sharapova is only beautiful compared to other players on the tour, who may well have far more merit on the court, even if they don’t look at good strutting through the New York streets trying to convince us how “pretty” they are.

The babies…at first it was meh, but then it just sounded really creepy. A little funny overall, but more disturbing if anything.
WTF @ the Utah food commercial. Were the creators smoking weed or something? That’s the only thing that can explain why they’re trying to compete with Quiznos for the most disturbing food commercial in history.
I saw the Nike commercial before. It’s alright, even though I personally HATE musicals with a passion. I never followed Sharapova though, so I’m indifferent.
