Rumors are circulating that, barring a last-minute doping scandal, Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing cyclist Lance Armstrong in a new biopic. The Internet braces for a whole new wave of lame Brokeback mash-ups. (Speaking of bad Gyllenhaal-themed gay jokes, Armstrong is sort of a master.)
So what will this do to the informal cycling club of Gyllenhaal, Armstrong, and mutual friend Matthew McConaughey? The latter had, at one time, been lined up for the role, Armstrong has apparently revealed; but the role ultimately went to Jake. (Matt Damon was also in the running.) Did McConaughey go home and drown his troubles in a tall glass of testosterone? Send me any and all spy photographs, and I promise, cross my heart, to put them on my wall, next to my Mac and Me poster.
Oh, and let me know what you think of Jake as Lance. Does it roll?

I think Jake is an amazing actor, and I am sure he is up for the challenge. They don’t look very much alike, but I am sure it will be a great movie.
Not so hot on Donnie Darko playing Lance, but anything is better than MATT DAMON.
But why skip over Matthew McConaughey? After all, he’s had a doping scandal or two of his own.
Anyway, the more important questions are who’s going to play Sheryl Crowe, and whether or not Sasha Cohen’s going to reprise his role as the French racer for the Lance movie.
I think Jake’s a great choice to play Lance Armstrong. And can there please be a moratorium on the Jake gay jokes. Look, society, we know you’re too ignorant and immature to be able to deal with gay people. The lame Brokeback jokes, and the fact that they are still continuing, is a pathetic defense mechanism. We get it, now get over it.
I love Jake, but I don’t think this is a fit. Matt Damon made more sense.
Imdb had already listed Matt as signed. But, that’s fine. Jake will be great. Two hours of Jake in spandex shorts. No gay jokes anyone.
Just when i finally got used to the idea of Matt Damon playing Lance Armstrong, i have to get used to the idea of another young actor who looks nothing like Lance Armstrong playing him.
Oh well, like people here have said, Jake’s a good actor, so it should be fine.
awww, too bad, all this time Perez Hilton was making me think Jake, Matthew and Lance were lovers : _ (
I looooooove Lance Armstrong. Have for years.
But do we realy need an Armstong movie?
Whoever is playing Lance Armstrong doesn’t really matter. What matters is the fact that I think the movie is going to suck! I know Lance had cancer and all that but is him having cancer going to be the entire movie?
I mean a good biopic usually involves drugs, insprition, women (LOTS of women), greed, backstabbing, redemption. You can’t have these and make a biopic (Ray, Walk The Line, Capote, and these are just recent) especially that one about drugs. I mean what would happen to Lance’s career (or what’s left of it anyway)?
I think they should just can this movie and do a biopic on people who are deserve it like Brando or Nirvana, or even a Lazy E (from NWA) biopic.
Just NOT Lance Armstrong.
If they’re going to make a movie, I think an unknown would be best. Having someone like Jake who is already so recognizable as himself, as well being a close friend of Lance’s, PLAY Lance, seems too weird to me.
Lorenzo,
It was Eazy-E, not Lazy E.
Thanks for calling me out Mario!
I meant to put “Eazy-E” after I realized I made a mistake but I then I didn’t even bother to since it was already posted. So, I was too LAZY to change it. Sue me.
Lorenzo makes a great point! Unless Lance gets busy with the 420 with Mcconaughey, there’s no drugs to tell a story about. And Sheryl Crowe’s sexy, but Lance doesn’t have enough scandal. He’s more true hearted and stuff. Why not let him be a hero for a few more years and THEN make a movie about him? We need at least one moment of burn out.
And I agree that a movie about Cobaine, Sleazy E (that’s an homage to Dre and Snoop), or (as suggested in Entourage) the Ramones would totally RULE!
Yeah, I’m with those saying that there is no need for this movie right now. I love JG and will see pretty much anything he does (he has a tendency to pick great roles) but isn’t Lance a little young to be having a biopic made about his life? Cobain would be fantastic (just don’t let Gus Van Sant near the set please), and The Ramones would be incredible as well. I know that’s off topic, but whatev.
If the movie has to be made, I would really rather see McConaughey or Damon rather than Gyllenhall in the role. They both seem more suited, looks and age-wise.
Not to take anything away from Jake, he is a great actor. But, I think Matt Damon would have been a better fit to play Armstrong. Although I am sure Jake will do a great job portraying Lance.
