Kanye Walks... down the aisle

154853__kanye_west_l

At last, Kanye West has found a woman whose opinion of him is as high as his own. People reports the rapper’s engagement to a woman named Alexis, who apparently couldn’t afford a last name before she met Kanye. No golddigger jokes, please; apparently, she’s been with him since before he was famous. No word on when they’ll tie the knot, or on whether he’s given her a ring fitted with diamonds from Sierra Leone. In all seriousness, congratulations to Kanye, especially for handling his engagement with such discretion (unlike his new BFF). I mean, who even knew that he had a longtime girlfriend?

Aren’t there marriage bans in most states prohibiting the union of a man and his ego. If “alexis” is a real person, I wish her the best of luck. This is the same man who, just before his performance for Song of the Year at the Grammys said “if I don’t win there’ll be trouble”. Green Day won by the way.

I would have to agree Mike. While I am willing to concede that the man can sing. His ego and the way he conducts himself in interviews and with the media make him completely unwatchable.

So if you can’t stand his ego, then why are you on here supposedly to comment about him getting married, Blue? It’s called a persona, a presence and I have actually met him a few times (my hubby works at HOB Chicago) and it turns out, he’s a humble, funny guy. He shakes everyone’s hand as he is coming and going and stops to actually talk to people backstage, not just hanging out with some entourage. In a day when other rappers consume any media coverage out there by rapping about violence or beating their cokehead exes, he had to figure out some way to get noticed in the mainstream (hip-hop fans were already aware of his raw talent and energy) and sometimes you have to be brash, bold, and not everyone’s favorite person. I think it’s nice he found someone and maybe people can learn to stick to the topic at hand. And Mike, Green Day winning regardless of taking it from Kanye or not, was a travesty as a whole. Any song in that category was more deserving. They put out a fantastic album and won for a very mediocre song.

Kanye West is talented and I like his music, but like you guys mentioned, his arrogance almost kills him. I froze in disbelief (before I laughed) the first time I saw his reaction when Gretchen Wilson won the award for ‘Best New Artist’ during the 2004 Grammys.
“If you didn’t plan on giving me the award, then why the hell did you invite me here?!” or something of that context…
That, along with him stating he should be in the Bible…it makes it VERY difficult to listen to his music. M. Night Shaymalan has NOTHING on West when it comes to a self-absorbed ego.

In that case Heather, I suppose it would be an ingenious way to gain publicity. It’s still a dumb move to act so arrogant if you ask me, because it’s a major turn off for some people (9 times out of 10, anyone who dislikes Kanye West brings up his ego). Having a bit of an ego is fine, but that’s taking it a bit far, don’t you think?
All personal biases aside, I wish Kanye’s marriage goes well. At least I’ll give him credit for not overinflating the news of his future marriage, unlike Spears/Cruise/Brangelina.

    So what happened to Fantasia????

t2hdow, that was the AMAs which generally invite people to perform who are going to win an award that evening- sad, but true…was his reaction right? No, and he apologized to Gretchen directly, but perhaps the Grammy reaction you are thinking of was when 50 cent stormed the stage when Evanescence won for new artist…any they may hate his ego, but you cannot argue with his talent. Talent will get you farther than a few people not seeing the difference between your public self and your private self. We all act differently in different situations- he’s just famous for it and his ego. He has an ego in the media, I won’t deny it- but don’t label him until you get all the facts my friend. And as an avid Kanye fan, I will need the specifics on him saying he should be in the Bible because I don’t recall that.

  • Snarky

Too bad he’s known more for his PR stunts than his music. Oh that’s right….his music is crap!

  • NMK

Alexis is probably a pet name for his ego!

  • Alex

Obviously, you didn’t listen to the actual album cut of “Diamonds” cause he’d be giving her diamonds NOT from Sierra Lione due to those being “Conflict Diamonds”

  • Just Me

His arrogance is ridiculous! He needs to know that someday when he least expects it, his life can change, and not for the better. “Pride comes before a crash.” Many mighty ones have fallen.

  • Jasper

Well she’s not messing with a broke n#gga!

  • Nancy Walker

    Jasper:
You sound ignorant. Please say something that makes sense. He is an African American. Go read a book.

  • ep sato

I just hope that on the 18th birthday he doesn’t find out it wasn’t his…
Seriously, Kanye should get some props for going out of the industry to find his love. These celeb on celeb marriages don’t seem to last very long…

  • common sense
