Don’t cry for Doctor Jack Shepard, Lost fans. Sure, he’s been captured by hostile Others, bound and gagged and traded away like a Barry Bonds baseball card by Michael. That’s the bad news. The good news is: There’s an excellent chance of hot, transgressive Othersex on the horizon. Elizabeth Mitchell, lately of E.R. and the Santa Clause franchise, is joining the cast of Lost. She’ll play "Juliet," a possible love interest for Jack. And where is Jack? With The Others. So what is Juliet? The Other woman, baby!
Apart from mating with Tim Allen-in-a-fatsuit (for which she received a Purple Heart and a Congressional Medal of Humiliation), Mitchell’s played a child molester (in Wayne Kramer’s bug-eyed Running Scared) and Angelina Jolie’s lover in Gia. She brings with her a certain… edge.
Jack will have a "dangerous" alternative to the increasingly squishy Kate — one that will split his loyalties. Ah, those crafty Others! Always hitting below the belt! Watch out, Jack! Kitten’s got Clause!

you forgot her turn as Dr. Legaspi on ER, the psych doc who Dr. Weaver was involved in. i love elizabeth mitchell. i never got into the whole 24 thing- missed the boat from the beginning- but with Ms. Mitchell joining up, I might have to catch a few eps in the fall.
She looks exactly like Desmonds woman.
Cripes! She did play the crazy, murderous, child molester. She creeped me out in that role and continues to do so today now that I think of her smirking face. She’s good at being psycho. I bet she’ll be awesome as an “other.”

I like Elizabeth Mitchell (although I didn’t know what her name was until now) but shouldn’t “Lost” be focusing more on the characters it already has instead of adding a bunch of new ones, i.e. the guy from “Love, Actually” joining the cast. I mean where’s Kate’s edge, where’s Sayid’s torment, where’s Hurley’s jokes…
For an already confusing show, more new characters will simply make new viewers too confused to stay and old viewers too frustrated to stay as well…

They do a great job of casting excellent “Oh, I love that guy/gal” character actors, from DJ Qualls, Michael Emerson,Sean Bean, to Cynthia Watros. Given that they killed off most of the females and Kate is the only one left not spoken for or busy with child, they needed some new estrogen. I do hope that they focus more or on the island than on Desmond’s honey tracking them down. Stay with the creepy!

Where’s their edge? I think in one of the last few episodes of season 2, we saw that maybe the tory’s tone would be changing direction when (I’m forgetting names and paraphrasing) Desmond’s girlfriend had written him saying as long as you love someone, you are never alone and you can make it in this world.
So, maybe with the addition of the Widmore woman, Roderigo Santoro (yay) and Elizabeth Mitchell, they will start to focus on people being “reborn” or “saved” through being loved and loving someone else.
