Alan Sepinwall from the Star-Ledger caught up with Desperate Housewives‘ creator Marc Cherry at ABC’s press-tour party last week, and came away with some juicy spoilers. (Stop reading now if you want to head into the Sept. 24 season premiere completely blind.) A few of the new plot twists have me dreaming about a creative resurgence on Wisteria Lane, while a couple leave me worried the show’s not quite ready to emerge from its sophomore slump. What follows are three real story arcs Cherry is planning — and two fakes. See if you can tell the difference.
A. Gabrielle and Carlos will juggle the arrival of their baby (via surrogate Xiao-Mei) with a vicious divorce battle.
B. While visiting unconscious Mike in the hospital, Susan becomes”coma buddies” with a handsome stranger (Ryan Seacrest) whose wife isalso unresponsive.
C. Bree walks down the aisle with Kyle MacLachlan’s Orson, then realizes she doesn’t know a whole lot about him.
D. Lynette and Tom decide to open their own ad agency, transforming their formal sitting room into an office space.
E. Edie’s torso-baring nephew carries on the family tradition of bringing naughty hijinks to Wisteria Lane.
Alrighty, Housewives watchers, I’m pleased to report A. and E.are, in fact, 100 percent true; unfortunately, so is C., which meansBree is continuing her bewildering string of creepy-serious post-Rexromances. On the flip side, B. is only a half-truth, as Susan’s new palwill be played by Dougray Scott; and D., well, that’s merely a figmentof my imagination.

I’m with you, Michael. I think the Bree story arc will manage to annoy me more than any of the previous bad ideas the show has had. Glad to see the return of Andrew though – maybe he’s a porn star!
And glad to see that Cherry is honest about the general consensus of Season 2. Hopefully he can turn things around this year.
Other than the Gabi/Carlos custody/divorce battles, the Scavo and Edie’s family additions, the rest are all snores.
Once again Bree falls for a man who is a psycho, once again Susan gets herself into a stick relationship situation that will only end in her humiliation. Are these two that pathetic to keep repeating this ridiculous cycle? Oh wait yes.
Only good news about Bree is the fact that Andrew’s returning. I’m in the minority but I heart me some Andrew. He’s deliciously evil but he’s no fool like his mama. If she’d listened to him last season she … and more importantly, (I) wouldn’t have had to endure George for very long.
Welcome back Andrew. Maybe your mother will listen to you this time rather than obsess about trying to cure you of your evil evil sexually deviant ways.
is jesse metalf ( i think thats how u spell his name) returning for season 3, i dont remember seeing him at all on season 2, maybe he and gabby will hook up, and shell end up pregnant, forcing them to wed.
I agree with Kaija, I truely heart some Andrew, not his sister though she’s just a harpie who brushes her hair too much! Since Edie’s nephew’s coming to town, hopefully him and Andrew hook up or give a larger part to Andrew’s boy, he’s so good!!
I read over at Spoilerfix.com that Edie’s nephew will hook up with Julie and they’ll have some sort of Romeo Juliet relationship, where the families don’t want them together. Or at least Susan, since Edie gets along pretty well with Julie.
Oh so tired already of this show. Perhaps we will all get lucky and this season will be the end of it all. Felicity Huffman and Marsha Cross are so far beyond and above this show, they need to go on and do better work than the garbage they are given here to perform.
If Andrew is in fact returning, it will finally give Bree the chance to redeem herself by supporting her son and maybe even share in some fun, evil mischief together, instead of against each other. I hate them fighting when they could be SUCH a good team. After all, not that sexual preference is 100% nature, nor 100% nurture, but it makes perfect TVland sense that her son would be gay and it seems to me that with her personality, she’d appreciate him more, not less, for it. I’d be more tolerant of the annoying boyfriend woes if Andrew took on the role of secret-Bree-bodyguard and started “discouraging” potential suitors, vigilante-style, or if he and Bree sought revenge together against the (poorly-written) men who will surely follow, wreaking havoc for no apparent reason.
The Ad agency is the fake but Nora still does not add up and I smell something fishy.
The whole story line of Bree is a YAWNER! We all know she falls for the wrong guys, why not do something that will be different.
As for the torso bearing newphew – knowing Cherry – it will be some hot twenty-something. Me likie that plot line so far ; )
Is everyone from PopWatch on vacation today?
I’m glad that DH is picking itself up, dusting itself off and, basically, starting all over again…
Remarring Bree is a good move because it’s hard for Marcia Cross to act ‘Bree’ when there’s no one to act opposite (plus, Kyle MacLachlan is a worthy acting partner despite his character’s apparent craziness)…
Giving Susan a dramatic arc is also good. Hopefully, they will let her romance with the Dougray Scott character simmer and build instead of becoming an instacouple like her and the doctor (plus any reason to keep Mike in a coma is good with me – the man acts as well as a tree, no, take that back, I’ve seen trees emote more)… And hopefully a hot nephew will give Edie more screen time…
Gabrielle and Carlos deserve good scenes full of ‘War of the Roses’ style fighting (even though we know they’ll make up after it’s all done) and while Lynette’s is my least fav story at least Tom’s baby momma is funny…
LuLu if you’re so damn tired of it–stop watching it?
22 million people still like this so-called “garbage”, which is actually still one of the best scripted shows on television.
Get over yourself and go watch 24.
I loved DH first year, and stopped watching about halfway through the second. I want to like it again, but the Bree storyline, as well as Gabby, doesn’t excite me. I like Gabby and Carlos together! I find them funny and they’re both so awful that they deserve each other.
Um, and does anyone work at EW anymore? This site needs updating badly. An old magazine cover, and no new news since July 20? What’s going on?
I still can´t belive Marcia Cross was snubbed yet Teri Hatcher has awards for playing a character who like she herself said is HER all the way… alright after my ranting I truly believe that the show will go back to its first season old ways, I am not sure I like the Bree storyline but Eva Longoria sure grew in the last season so I expect great things from her. Lynette controling ways will be fun to see again and Edie and her one liners will surely be welcomed with open arms!!!!!
How did the Star Ledger land that interview? It’s the crappiest newspaper.
unfortunately i only like story C…
anyway…as long as they keep bree and Gabby alive in the show…i’m gonna watch it. whatever.
Edie’s got a naughty torso-baring nephew? Intriguing…sounds like this kid will be a good replacement for the gardner and Bree’s delinquent son.
Marc Cherry has also divulged that he is building up a major story arc that will end in a hostage situation in a supermarket and that one of the lead cast members will be killed. My guess is Bree if she is indeed marrying Orson. Her storyline seems to be the one with the least amount of momentum.
Seacrest with an unresponsive wife? Not much of a stretch I believe lol
