terminalskeptik – i agree with you on the Alvar Hanso stuff. there is some reason he isn’t around – and i think it is because he overall is a good guy and didn’t want part of what the company was becoming.
I think Alvar might not be her father…but her grandfather. He seems a bit old, but who knows. i think in some way though he is related to her.
i also think rachel is finishing up her mothers work (i think her mom was actually persephone – she just claimed it in her legacy)…and this quest is to find the answers her mother never got a chance to tell her before she was gone.

how about this one — rachel is the daughter of the infamous degroots a husband/wife team of scientists that started the dharma initiative with the monetary assistance of the hanso foundation. rachel, raised by her grandmother, seeks the truth about what happened to her mother and/or father on the “island”. currently she tracks after mittlewerk who is on his way to the “island” in a mysterious boat. but what if — the cataways were really part of an eloborate experiement being conducted by scientists to make them think they are on an island and part of a plane crash. what if they were really in a hospital with some sort of matrix like alter-reality?
the lure of the show, and the lost experience alternate reality game, is that anything is possible…
