Snap Judgment: 'The Office' Webisodes

Categories: Television, Web/Tech

153828__officeweb_lI’m not going to argue with those of you who say the increasing availability of TV shows on the Internet is a surefire path to loss of your job productivity — and quite possibly your job itself. Heck, even as someone who blogs about entertainment for a living, I’ve spent 13 and a half hours this week alone a tad too much time lately checking out very funny (but rejected) sitcom pilots, YouTube footage of Emmy nominees‘ highlight reels, and clips and trailers for brilliant but canceled series.

Still, you’ve got to hand it to NBC for helping fans of The Office cope with summer rerun season by creating 10 Webisodes of the highly addictive sitcom — focusing on the show’s supporting players and their efforts to track down $3,000 that’s disappeared from the Dunder Mifflin safe. The first two segments, "The Books Don’t Balance" and "Phyllis," premiered today (click here and here to check ‘em out), and while they’re more amusing than hilarious, they do manage to pack more laughs into two minutes than the average episode of According to Jim does in 22. (Without spoiling anything, the brilliance is in the details, like that fleeting gesture between Kevin and Oscar, or the way Phyllis exits her interrogation.) Check ‘em out for yourself, and let your fellow PopWatchers know if you’ll be staying tuned for the final eight Webisodes. I know I will.

I will absolutely be tuning in for the rest of the webisodes. The two points of interest that you mentioned were most definitely the funniest parts – I was cracking up. I am an admitted Office addict, so I’ll take it in any form I can get it. I can’t wait for season 2 on dvd (Sept. 13th!) and for season 3 to start in the fall. I’m just so happy that there is a sitcom on television that I actually find (extremely) funny (along with Scrubs of course). The Emmys better recognize this show when it hands out the awards!

Why do I have the funny feeling the resolution of the Case of the Missing Money will be a letdown?

Eeehhhh, I’m on the fence and leaning toward skipping the others. I’ve got a life and they just didn’t grab me. (Love the show, though. Never missed an episode, including the British version.

The webisodes were awesome! It’s giving my addiction to The Office a much needed fix over these long summer months. And yeah, the parts Slezak mentioned were the funniest parts. Can’t wait for more!
And I agree with Nicole: this show had better win some Emmys!
