'Lost': A ginormous new guide

Categories: Lost, Television

Some of you might find Lost a tad confusing, what with the clues and the fake-outs and the flashbacks and the fan speculations and the psychic dogs and the supermagnets and all that Hanso stuff that’s happening online. Luckily, someone’s compiled the whole kit and caboodle into one handy guide. Now all your confusion and frustration is available in a single pictorial format. It’s not exactly wallet-sized (unless you carry an electron microscope to read it with), but this massive .jpeg may be the most consolidated distillation of Lost’s tangled timeline and bent geography yet compiled. What’s more, it seems to have been created by a real person, a Virginia engineer named Jonah Adkins. Sure, there are some typos and misspellings — but we can’t expect everyone to meet the sterling standard set by Popwtach.

Of particular interest (and infinite help) are the island maps, which helped me visualize the actual terrain for the first time. A timeline of events (starting from from splashdown) also helps get a picture of the castaways’ day-to-day tribulations. The gaps between key events recall the weird languor of those calm-before-the-sweeps moments. ”Sawyer Kills a Tree Frog,” sadly, did not make the cut.

The guide looked interesting, but the jpeg print was so tiny that I could not read anything on the map. My computer also went into meltdown when I brought up the map, so I don’t think I’ll be trying to access it again!

I am so tired of reading about Lost in EW and here at ew.com. Give it a rest! How many covers has that show had in the past year? 5? I get that it’s a good show, but the disproportionate amount of coverage it gets is annoying. It all sounds like a ginormous waste of time.

EW’s coverage of Lost reminds me of ten years ago when every single issue of EW featured something about “Friends”. Maybe it’s time for a moratorium on Lost? At least until the new season?

Pretty usesless since the text can’t be read.

I really hope Lost starts out with a completely new show. Last year they did retrospectives twice and the first one was the first show. Our whole family gathered around the tv and we all started saying I’ve seen that after a couple minutes, we realized it was a retrospective. It was very disappointing. Then when they did it again after Christmas, Lost almost lost us.
