Arrested Development: The Movie?

There’s still money in that banana stand: Maebe says there’ll be an Arrested Development movie. Maybe.

Alia Shawkat (who played the ambiguously-monikered, super-jaded, movie-producing, cousin-kissing teen on the short-lived but much-beloved and altogether over-hyphenated Fox comedy) has the following to say about a possible AD leap to the big screen: "Mitch actually recently told us that there is a good possibility for a movie, and that he’s talking to Ron Howard about it."

Well, they did end the show with a movie pitch to series producer/narrator Ron Howard. If they pulled it off, wouldn’t that, like, totally be the metaness to end all metanesses? No, that would be an Arrested Development movie about the Arrested Development movie, told from the perspective of the guy who’s programming Arrested Development: The Movie: The Videogame. ("Play as GOB. Play as Michael. Play as The Loose Seal.")

In any case, my head will happily explode, and when it does, I promise to YouTube it for your enjoyment.

Totally off-topic for this thread, but I’m surprised you haven’t reported yet on the passing of Pink Floyd co-founder, Syd Barrett. While his version of the band was quite different from the David Gilmour version (have you ever HEARD “Bike”, “See Emily Play” or “Arnold Lane”?) it has a genius all its own and obviously laid down the foundation for the amazing classic Pink Floyd became.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Rest in Peace!

Why not a Mr. Bananagrabber game?

More Franklin? More Steve Holt? More Bland? Dear God yes!!!!! And I’ll take it in any form available, be it tv, movie, videogame, Viewfinder, whatever.

Psyched to hear this movie may happen! It broke my heart when you reported that the Showtime idea was dead. I just need a few more hours of this show!

Hey while you’re mentioning great character names, let’s not forget the double-talking Bob Loblaw!

Please, please, please, let this be so! When I heard they were making a movie called “The Illusionist,” I got excited that it might be the GOB story. No luck – stars Ed Norton, not Will Arnett. Bring on “AD – the Movie!”

This could be the best news ever, so I am going to forget about it so I don’t get my hopes up.

An Arrested Development movie would kick so much a**!! Please oh please let this happen!!

  • Lauren

Not getting my hopes up but my brain would explode from happiness if it happens. Like my brain can’t contain the happiness an AD movie would produce. It totally couldn’t.

  • Nicole

This would be utterly fantastic. That’s pretty much all I have to say. Please let this be true!

    Ditto Stef and Laura.

I’ve actually wished this on numerous talkbacks about AD, but I just hope it would start as a prequel to the show, in the Michael’s wife days, since they could pull some funny costumes to look younger, not to mention ideas for plot, and introduce the family to new people. Then they film a second movie as a sequel, so people will have to watch the show in between if they want to be caught up, which they will, cuz’ it’s hilarious and priceless. And so the sequel would end the family in the biggest way, and forever cement them in history, not to mention boost DVD sales and magician acts everywhere. “Maybe I’ll Stick It In Her Brownie?” …(disgusted) “HEY!”

Perhaps it could be a detective noir-type movie with Gene Parmesan searching for Anyoung inside the Milford School only to wind up stuck inside the Aztec Tomb. He could find a copy of Poof (that’s a magazine for magicians!) and do a little light reading. In the meantime, George Michael sees Anyoung in a video GOB is watching. It turns out to be the latest offering from the Girls with Low Self-Esteem series. And who’s that guy in the cutoffs with Anyoung? It’s Tobias Funke, analrapist, and he’s eating a banana with nuts. :)
