Hollywoodland (Sept. 8) Ben Affleck is the new Brandon Routh. Or is it the other way around? No matter, I’m totally gonna check out this noir-ish looking biopic about the mysterious death of TV Superman George Reeves (Affleck, pictured), the trailer for which synergistically ran before Superman Returns in many theaters this past weekend. I know, I know; the last time Affleck donned hero drag, we got the crappy Daredevil, but with Adrien Brody, Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins, and Wonderfalls‘ terrific Caroline Dhavernas (in a supporting role) signed on to what’s an inherently interesting story, how bad can this one be? (And is it just me or is that Kathleen Robertson in the scene by the clothesline? Maybe that Swank chick is starting a trend toward 90210 alumni credibility?)

Trailer looked good. Maybe Ben Affleck’s 15 mins is NOT up yet.
This looks so good. Definetely fascinating, and plus, Ben looks so much like my vision of Superman… I can’t wait.
now i kinda like ben,so i think i’ll check it out even if really think he was riding matts coattails and his voice is too high for a guy that big.
Michael I need an outlet to talk about The Comeback! GO LISA KUDROW!
Daredevil was no crappier than most action flicks. Who ever saw that MI piece of crap where Cruise grabs the train and his arm doesn’t come off! Or the MI2 piece of crap where he jams on his bike brakes, smashes into someone in mid air and still manages to get up and shoot! Get off Ben. He is not the first to turn out crap, Adam Sandler does it regularly. At least Affleck tries to do different things. And Hollywoodland is going to be good – so go trash Matt Damon for tuning out one Bored Identity after another, more crappy Ocean’s 47 and then more crap like Brothers Grimm and Stuck on You.
Caroline Dhavernas is in this!? She is so great…Fox should be ashamed STILL for their lousy treatment of Wonderfalls!
Oh, thank god Caroline Dhavernas is doing something! “Wonderfalls” was great, and she was the best thing about it. I’m sure this role will be COMPLETELY different, but I can’t wait to see her anyway. I’m looking forward to this movie even more now. Hopefully it’ll be good for Affleck’s career.
I agree wuth the Chris guy. Daredevil was just as good as any other action/superhero flick. I’d even go farther and say it was 1 of the more interesting plot-wise.
Daredevil was actually pretty good. I don’t get what everyone says about it. The Director’s Cut was even better. I guess it’s all about perspective.
I don’t know why people like to trash Ben Affleck…oh wait, it’s because he had a relationship with a certain J.Lo- got it…but nothing to really do with his acting though. Sure Gigli was terrible but it was a terrible script. How about Ben in Chasing Amy or Dogma- he was great in those and even Changing Lanes wasn’t terrible…but I know- there’s always Pearl Harbor and Armageddon but again…bad scripts. Ben has great sucess with a good script (think Good Will) and this movie looks to be in line with something like LA Confidential. I am very excited to see this.
I saw the trailer for this movie while my brother and I were went to see The Devil Wears Prada. BTW: The movie was not Anne Hathaway’s break out film, but she shows promise. Anyway, Lately Ben had picked sour pickles for films and no it was not because of J-Lo. Jersey Girl was actually quite moving but I really thought that all hope was lost for him after Surviving Christmas. I saw parts of it on cable and I thought “what happened to the Ben from Good Will Hunting?” This movie answers the question: Heee’s baaack! This might not get him an oscar but it might get him a Golden Globe nomination. Well done kid!
I actually reward the best acting I see each year with “The Trimble Award”. Ben Affleck was my very first Best Actor for his role in Chasin Amy. I’ve been a huge fan since then and could never understand why the media goes after him so hard. Chris X had it all right. Ben is the man. Plus, I do own Gigli on DVD, and I still enjoy it very much. I also enjoyed Surviving Xmas!
Finally, Ben is doing something that might be thought provoking and interesting. He certainly was outstanding in GWH and could very well be doing something worth watching again. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
Heather, I think most people have been trashing Ben Affleck because he’s made nothing but crap since Good Will Hunting. I haven’t seen anything to suggest that he’s anything more than just an okay actor. His brother, Casey, is much more talented, as is Matt Damon. I personally didn’t care one way or another about his relationship with J-Lo or any of his relationships for that matter.
The dialogue btween Casey and Ben in GWH was priceless even if they are brothers.
“I asked for a double burger!” lol.
