So what do the TV series Benson, Huff, Northern Exposure, St. Elsewhere, and The White Shadow have in common? They all star or starred actors who also appeared in the film 1776.
James Noble (Benson) plays Rev. John Witherspoon of NewJersey. Blythe Danner (Huff) plays Martha Jefferson. John Cullum (Northern Exposure) plays Edwin Rutledge of South Carolina. William Daniels (St. Elsewhere) plays John Adams. Ken Howard (The White Shadow) plays Thomas Jefferson. (Pictured, incidentally, are Daniels, Danner, and Howard Da Silva, who plays Benjamin Franklin in the film.)
Very few of you got the flag-waving connection…
(I’ll be totally honest. I didn’t get this one either — this one is all Gary. As I mentioned, I thought it was very difficult, perhaps even too difficult, but 16 of you Yankee Doodle Dandies proved me wrong. Yet again. Sigh. They grow up so fast…)

RE: Star Jones. People are great on asking questions like, “Do you like this person or that person.” Never mind whether you know this or that person. My answer: I don’t know them personally. In other words, how can you make such venomous comments about someone you don’t even know? Star Jones is an imperfect human being as well as all of you mean-spirited individuals. When I do not like a show or its subject matter, I do not turn it on. It’s like, somebody needs to get a life! Read the Bible! Look at yourself in the mirror and make a few comments on yourself, then try and improve. Some of you bloggers must hate yourself. Bye-bye. Verla, July 6, 2006.
Me so sad! I thought the connection was Bruce Paltrow! I mean, it was, but I get the whole 1776 thing, too.
And is Blythe Danner the most fabulous babe? Even now, she’s stunning. Gwyneth done inherited her some fantastic bone structure.
Uh, Verla…This is the “Headscratcher” blog. I suggest you post comments in the “More PopWatch” section where you’ll find previous “Star” headers.
Karla, I totally thought it was a Bruce Paltrow connection too! If only I’d looked for a 4th of July connection… someday I’ll learn.
what about mr. feeney?
no love?
I stumbled onto this one simply by looking at casts, but the possible Bruce Paltrow connection escaped me. I guess I should be glad that I found it quickly enough not to venture in other directions. Oh, and Blythe certainly did hand off some perfect genes (though I think she actually outshines her daughter in many ways).
