Three hot new trailers:
Running With Scissors (Oct. 11) Yeah, I know a couple of you are already buzzing about Meryl Streep’s Oscar hopes this year, but don’t count out the always great Annette Bening (pictured, with costar Joseph Cross), who, from the looks of this trailer, gives another crazy/beautiful performance alongside a thoroughly exciting cast in this big-screen adaptation of Augusten Burroughs’ best-seller.
Marie Antoinette (Oct. 20) I can’t argue with anyone who says the full trailer for Sofia Coppola’s latest is lovely to look at, but hearing Kirsten Dunst rock a California-girl accent in the court of Louis XVI is a wee bit disconcerting. I’m going to hold off till I read the reviews on this one before I shell out my hard-earned $10, especially after the not-so-hot reception it received at Cannes.
Volver (Nov. 3) The trailer doesn’t make it entirely clear what Pedro Almodóvar’s latest is all about, but that’s par for the course when it comes to the daring director. Hopefully, though, what looks like a colorful, eerie, funny piece of work will be a return to form for Penélope Cruz, whose English-language oeuvre calls to mind a line of dialogue she utters in this clip: "It smells of farts!"

If the movie version is Running With Scissors is a good as the book, I’ll give it a shot.
This trailer for Running With Scissors makes me want to see it even more. Move over Meryl Streep, Annette Bening is looking like the front-runner for Best Actress now! Oh, I cant wait till October!
RWS looks awesome. I haven’t read that book, but I read “Dry” and was sober for 3 days (a new record).
Yeah, that “Marie Antoinette” looks weird…why do the people around her have these posh European accents, but she and the king sound American? Of course, they should be speaking French, but it does seem a little more realistic for them to have French accents or even English ones.
I am really siked about MA. Again, I’ve never been a huge fan of Sofia Coppola’s movies, but this one sounds very interesting. Plus Kirsten Dunst is growing as an actress with each film and Jason Schwartzmann is awesome!
Why isn’t this guy a huge movie star. Oh yeah, b/c he’s 4 ft. tall…
Annette Bening, Rachel Wood, Jill Clayburgh, Alec Baldwin and Ryan Murphy!!! I want to buy my ticket NOW!!!
‘Marie Antoinette’ looks really good, I can’t wait, I love the music she is using, Kirsten and Jason will be great. Is it October yet??
‘Running With Scissors’ looks also very good. I loved the book!
The trailer for RWS made me so, so happy! I am a major Augusten Burroughs fan and have been anticipating this movie for a long time. The trailer, the cast, the aesthetic – everything looks fabulous. I cannot wait!
MA looks….meh. I loved, loved, loved The Virgin Suicides and I idolize Jason Schwartzman, but I don’t know about this one….
Running With Scissors and Annette Benning, sounds like a treat! Loved her in Being Julia!
But Running With Scissors will always be, to me, the title episode of when Carrie and Big have an affair – season 3. Remember that? When Carrie is getting hot and heavy with Aiden and she screws it up by getting together with Big! I couldn’t believe it.
My favorite scene from this episode is when Carrie is running down the street looking for Pete in her red heal shoes. Who in the world (except me) would run down a street in Manhantten wearing red stilletoes and cute shorty shorts.
I recently came back from New York, tried it and failed : (
Ed
Her french accent was ditched as she sounded Russian.. ha ha
Is there a Hillary Swank film coming out before the end of 2005? I wouldn’t be handing Miss Bening the Oscar yet then…………..
I wish Julianne Moore had done the Annette Bening role in Running with Scissors (as was orginally intended).
Love Annette Bening, what a great actress she is. Looks to be a good movie.
I don’t get the Kirsten Dunst thing. I just don’t get it. And if you are doing a film with accents, at least make sure they all match up!
Why is Annette Bening dressed like Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde?
“Marie Antoinette” has been reported for months as being poorly received at Cannes, when it’s simply not true. There was no other movie more admired by the French film critics. The booing at one of the first screenings? Probably members of the government that were expecting a more conventional depiction of the much-maligned queen. As someone who has seen “Marie Antoinette” (twice; on a trip to Paris at the end of May), I can tell you one thing: Sofia Copolla’s story is one of beauty and heartbreak.
Oooh please not kirsten dunst. She only looks good with gobs of makeup and dressed by Sofia Coppola who she’s copying now. MA only works as she isn’t challenged by a lot of dialogue. She does have sex appeal which she uses but that runs out after the same “hooded eyes” gaze and one finger stuck in her mouth coquettishness.
Love Annete Benning. She can act!!
