ABC on Star Jones: She had it comin'!

Categories: Television

171458__starjones_lWhile Star Jones Reynolds dished more dirt on Larry King Live last night and the Today show this morning (pictured), EW spoke with ABC’s President of Daytime Brian Frons about The View scuffle.  Let’s just say there’s no love lost between the network and Star. "If I have one regret, it’s that I didn’t press Barbara [Walters] to get rid of her when her connection to viewers hit an all-time low in November," says Frons. "Had we done that, there would have been no connection to the Rosie O’Donnell signing.  It would have been really focused on what Star had done to herself." Yikes. The gloves are coming off! Pick up next week’s copy of Entertainment Weekly to read more behind-the-scenes details about Jones Reynolds’ departure from The View.

    ::yawn::
Who watches the View anyway? Doesn’t it come on at 9 or 10 am? Why aren’t these people at work??

  • Chuck_A

Do you think that people who watch The View are employable?

  • Chuck U. Farley

You know, I can proudly say that I’ve never watched a minute of The View. I only knew Star from her dumb shoe commericals and the snark here on EW. But that said, it’s kind of fun to watch an good ol’ fashioned catfight take place in public. At least for once we’re not talking about Paris or Lindsay…

  • Bekkah

    Drama Queen.

  • Chuck_A

I still think that they should replace her with some conservative bit** (think Coulter) to really promote on-air cat fighting. I may hate her, but she’d really pep up that boring lovefest!!!

  • Lynny

It is always fun to see someone get what is coming to them. She has been a conceited waste of tv space for a long time. Thank God she is gone!

  • James

I have seen this coming for some time now. Star Jones is the most conceited woman on the planet who believes she’ s God’s gift to talk tv. She never accepts responsibility for how she come across because she’s too much in love with herself to care. Aa a true Christian, I can tell you it’s a sin to proclaim yourself holier than thou to everyone around and think you are God’s chosen one. Star needs a lesson in humility and thank goodness and got a swift kick in the pants.

  • JUDE

Take a moment to think about what is going on in this world today, and then realize that Star Jones is just trying to get more publicity for herself…..She should be ashamed of herself, and more important, she must think that the majority of us are complete idoits………….GET OVER YOURSELF STAR!

  • Nick

I have only seen the View twice (I was sick), not really a fan. I did see Star on the red carpet, I did not like her as a red carpet reporter. I did see her on the Today show and thought she was a class act, I liked she said good things about Ms. Walters, and she viewed it as a business decision, I thought she did rather well. I like the attitude of moving on with the new chapter in her life. Somehow I don’t think the media will let her move so quickly.

  • Ed

You can’t get any more real than this! I want to thank Star Jones for actually giving the American public a real Cat Fight! None of this made up crap that Paris and Lindsey create behind closed doors. None of the fake fighting between Nicole and Paris, Aniston and Pitt and the Sheen/everyone crowd.
You go Star, because after this, you’re are going to be religated to cable informercials. You’re the next Susan Summers!
    Ed

  • arlene

I love Star & I am sorry she quit the View,I will never watch the view again if Rosie goes on it,Sorry

  • Tim

The Larry King interview was painful to watch. LK was asking the questions people want answers to, but Star did her best not to answer. Didn’t help Star’s case, IMHO. Talk about tap-dancing in a minefield!

  • Ray

Star, just shut up and move on.

  • Robin

I just saw CNN news and on it Star said that she wanted the truth for the viewer, How about the truth when she had the surgery for the weight loss? Funny how NOW, SHE WANTED THE VIEWER TO HAVE THE TRUTH!!!!!!

  • Eff U

Some of us work nights, dudes, so for us, The View is like Prime Time. I would question the employability of those who watch 2 and a Half Men… Which, by the way, get 5 times the ratings The View does. Meredith I will miss you…

  • Cici

Bottom line this whole mess would’ve been avoided had the network just fired Star in November citing other employment opportunites as the reason then put Star under a gag order for 6 months not to cite the real reason for her dismissal. Once the gag order had expired Star would’ve been free to tell her story and then no one would care.

  • JINX

I AM REALLY SURPRISED TO SEE ALL THE VITUPERATE AGAINST STAR JONES.
IS BARBARA WALTERS SOME KIND OF GOD TO PEOPLE THAT SHE CAN’T BE WRONG? I PERSONALLY KNEW THAT WHEN WALTERS GAVE ROSIE THE SPOT ON NATIONAL TV THAT, IF STAR HAD ANY SENSE, SHE WOULD LEAVE.
OF COURSE IT IS WALTERS SHOW AN SHE CAN FIRE WHO SHE WANTS, BUT I WILL NEVER FORGET HER FULL FACED CAMERA “VIEW” AS SHE GAVE THE MOST GAD AWFUL REMARKS ABOUT STAR JONES-REYNOLDS. SHE FACE SHOWED ALMOST PURE HATRED!!!!!
NOW I AM SADDENED TO SEE BLACKS LINING UP FOR THE BLACK SEAT ON THE PROGRAM!!

  • Stephanie Travitsky

I think if a person who is morbidly obsese like Star had once been, and wants to get gastric bypass surgery because it will save them then that is their own right. Singer John Popper’s life was saved because of it. And if Star Jones did not want to come out and say those two words: “gastric bypass”, then that is her business so Rosie, SHUT UP! However, I am not defending Star either. Sometimes when things are going your way self esteem wise, your ego will play tricks on you and turn you into something hideous. Sometimes you forget to acknowledge the people who had brought you to where you were. Jones was an unknown Brooklyn lawyer turned judge. She gained fame when Court TV asked for her take on the William Kennedy Smith rape trial. After she lost weight and became “Skinny Star” she also became “Starzilla” and Star admitted that she was wrong for becoming that.

  • Andrea

    The black seat?
I mean, I’ve never seen The View but … wait, can I abbreviate it TV, or would that be confusing? Anyway, I’ve never seen it, but are the seats multicolored? If Star sat in a black one, did Meredith sit in a purple one? Someone clear this up for me. Maybe Star can clarify for me, since she’s all about TRUTH for the people. Maybe I can borrow some nonsurgical weight loss tips, too …

  • Denise

It is so sad to see so many people trying their best to “knock” Star down. People are stating that Star got what she deserved…why would any of you think that?…if how Star acts determines what treatment television stars “should” recieve then 99.9% of the idiots on television should be fired for their stupid behavior..I see alot of you are still hankering after that idiot Paris Hilton & Co..Star is/was no worse than the 98.9% of the rest of the so-called telly-divas… And THAT includes almost ALL OF THEM, men as well as women….Best of luck Star.

  • mrcr

Star was a prosecutor, not a judge.

  • Bob G

Let’s see–Star has been on CNN and NBC. I’m sure she’ll be on CBS, Fox, QVC and The Food Network complaining.
I liked the Old Star. I want her back.
Remind me to FedEx her a case or 2 of Hostess Ho-Hos

  • Rose

I don’t watch the View, and could care less about any of the players. But watching this play out is kind of gross. Whatever Star Jones faults are, she was with the show for 9 years, she gets dumped for Rosie O’Donnell (who I think just might be the most annoying celebrity on the planet!) and then they want her to lie about it. To protect her? Come on! Give me a break! They wanted her to protect them and she wouldn’t do it. Good for her. Personally, I think Barbara Walters is really coming off as a no class b***h in all of this.

  • Nikki

I think everybody need to mind their own business. Who cares how Star lost her weight? the important thing is she lost it and now she’s healthier. I cant stand Rosie anyway. Look how long it took her to admit she is gay. What makes her a God. Star you do your thing and remember, when one door closes another one opens. Walter’s is on her death bed anyway, what is she like 100?

  • judy

I don’t care if she is big or little, I care if her talent is…she had a little to start with and that is fading fast.

  • Simon

People.com is reporting that Brandy will fill in for Star next week – are you kidding me? She is horrible on that stupid show “Simon Cowell really wants to embarrass some Americans” or whatever it is called.
The View is changing alright – for the worse!

  • Jill

Jinx, VITUPERATE? Fantastic! I thought I had quite an extensive vocabulary, and I had to look up that one (though the context you provided did make it easy to guess the definition). Thanks for the education, friend. Keep blogging!

I am not sure why there is such hatred against Star. If you don’t like her fine, but why all the nastiness? I feel Star was right to tell the truth about her contract. Had I been told in April, I would have told Babs and Co adios at that time and then told what happened. Barbara Walters is angry that she could not control the situation. Everyone puts her on a pedestal as if she is a God and can do no wrong but she is old as dirt! Just because she is 74 years old doesn’t mean she can treat people any way without reprecussions.
I think Star did become arrogant because of her success and this is probably a nice reminder about how fleeting success can be. However, I don’t believe she owes the public, Rosie or ABC any explanations about her weight loss. That is a private matter and she chose to deal with it in the way she wanted. With regard to the wedding, there is no argument that she went totally overboard and she acknowledged that with Al Roker on the Today show interview. However, I seriously doubt that ABC would have had a problem with it had she invited them to film it and show portions on the View. In fact, according to their statement last night on Larry King they were displeased because they thought she allowed People magazine show pictures of the wedding but did not allowed the same to be shown on the View. I don’t think this was a dispute about her personal ratings but what they feel she should have disclosed about herself personally on their show so their ratings could have benefited. Good for Star that she took control of her life. She should have done so sooner. My respect for Barbara Walters had gone down considerably. I never imagined that a journalist of her caliber would have engaged in such behavior.
Also Kudos to Elisabeth for having the decency to contact Star after this came out. I don’t really care for her politics but that was a nice thing to do. I have always believed that Joy was a witch so nothing she does is surprising. I will not be watching the View when the Fall comes. Meredith and Star were the most intelligent of the crew. Rosie is a pompous shrill woman who seems to believe her opinion should matter to everyone else. I fail to see how she will make the show better. But I no longer care.

  • CiCi

Well if Brandy’s tryout for The View goes well and she gets the job, ABC Daytime will never have to worry about her ability to stick to a lie if she is dimissed. Brandy’s had plenty of practice lying out about being married to hide an out of wedlock birth.

  • christina

I believe Mrs.Star Reynolds. cause when she was the “big black lady” on the show, they didn’t have a problem with her, and when she started losing weight and being more confident than before, now everybody wants to have a problem with her. And Barbara Walters ass is shady.
