So Star Jones finally popped the lid on The View Escape Hatch™. Or rather, Barbara Walters and the show’s producers hit the button on The View Host Ejector™. Either way, a replacement is required ASAP for the outspoken, shoe-loving, large-headed attorney. The Chicago Tribune’s Maureen Ryan has some intriguing suggestions — Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, Sandra Bernhard (the better to battle the Hasselbot!) — but do any of those women fill the void on the daytime chatfest’s hosting panel?
Think about it: While it’s been the accepted thinking that Rosie O’Donnell is taking over the seat vacated by Meredith Vieira, isn’t Rosie actually the new Star Jones, an unpredictable, name-dropping, polarizing self-promoter? Which means The View still needs its Meredith, a brainy, engaging interviewer with some hint of a news background. The blogfather suggests CNN’s Soledad O’Brien, but I’d try to recruit The Daily Show’s Samantha Bee, whose subtle verbal daggers would be a welcome change of pace from the show’s typical pots-and-pans-clanging-together repartee.
Who would you hire, PopWatchers? Quick, before Babs goes and offers the seat to some of-the-moment comic like Gilbert Gottfried.

I agree that someone with a news background would probably be a good choice, maybe Deborah Norville. If the replacement is required to be black, then maybe Gwen Ifill.
Connie Chung
gwen ifill
deborah roberts
there definitely needs to be an african american on the panel. the show seems very unbalanced without a black voice. someone mentioned on the other blog about rolonda watts. she would be great. she’s smart and classy, and i think would be a welcome addition. gayle king is fun, but doesn’t carry the brash intelligencia that i think rolonda would. right now we got three white chicks with a fourth on the way, i think is is important to have a black voice too.
Aisha Tyler, formerly of Talk Soup (although sadly seems to be known more for her guest stint on FRIENDS). Funny, whipsmart, beautiful/sexiful, has done the talk show thing before BRILLIANTLY, and would laugh at the elephant in the room rather than ignore it– a much-needed dose of reality.
She also would keep it from becoming very, very, pasty-white without trying to convince anyone she’s actually Oprah on her good days.
How about Queen Latifah? She’s great!
I really would like to see Iyanla Vanzant if the show” Starting Over” isn’t going to be on any more. She is smart, compassionate, could hold her own, and offer some valuable insight.
I agree with the suggestion of Aisha Tyler. I loved her on both Friends and Talk Soup. And she’s smart-funny, not outdated-quip-funny like Joy Behar or poop-joke-funny like Rosie O’Donnel.
Sadly while Tyler is a good choice, unless she leaves the show Ghost Whisperer, she’s taken. Doing two shows can’t happen unless you have a contract with only one channel.
So with that said here are my picks:
Gretchen Carlsson
Julie Chen
Comedianne and former Daily Show commentator Nancy Walls
Amy Sedaris
RuPaul
Queen Latifah
Rosanna Scotto
Dana Tyler
Donna Hanover
Today’s technical problems on the show seemed a bit fishy to me…..
They need to finally cancel this limp project.. who cares really to watch it daily.. unless it’s a crisis..
Cindy Sheehan. She’d take the focus away from the superficial nonsense normally discussed on TV and keep it on the war, which is destroying our kids and our future.
Ann Coulter!! Ann Coulter!! The chemistry between her and Rosie would be worth the TIVO time.
Aisha Tyler because she’s got the experience, she’s smart, and hella funny!
Queen Latifah would also be a good candidate – funny, confident, fearless. But she might be too busy making movies and music.
I am actually loving the whole Star Jones/Barbara Walters feud. I think it is something that show could use, a little dose of press.
My picks
- Aisha Tyler would be awesome!
- Debbie Morgan
- Queen Latifah
- Bring back Lisa Ling!!
Grimace – That is the only replacement I can think of for Star – ever since she wore that tight purple dress to host one of those red carpet shows…
I think Renee Syler from the Early Show would be good.
WANDA SYKES! I also like the idea of Aisha Tyler
WANDA SYKES!
Definitely Aisha. She’s got Meredith’s sensibility, while keeping the view a diverse view. Though I don’t say I would blame her (or anyone with common sense) for turning down a couch shared with Barbara, Rosie and Joy. I love Wanda, but don’t think we need another brash woman on the show.
The View has been too bland and prepackaged for years. They rely on those blue cards and prompters way too much. So I think someone who can think on their toes is a must. And I really don’t think it can be someone who is picked just because she’s funny. Aisha Tyler is by far the best suggestion I’ve heard. She is funny, but she’s is also whip-smart.
I think Cornelius Earl would be a great fit.
I adore both Wanda Sykes and Queen Latifah, but on a daytime ensemble show? Queen Latifah’s a movie star, and Wanda Sykes is establishing some territory in the movies. I want both of these women to be way too big for this show. Aisha Taylor or Samantha Bee are both good choices. And I’d hate to see Kathy Griffin do The View, mostly because it would mean giving up her D-list reality show, which is hysterical.
You can’t compare Deborah Norville to Gwen Ifill. Gwen Ifill is a serious journalist. Why would she leave a staring position as a respected journalist to be apart of this sinking ship. I can’t imagine that anyone is jumping at the bit to sit next to what’s her name in the fall.
I might be in the minority, but I LOVE the Hasslebot. And no, I’m not a republican. But since her days on survivor there’s always been something endearing about her. I also think that I might hurl if Sandra Bernhard takes Star’s place.
Aisha Tyler or Rene Syler would be good choices, especiall if they have to be black. I would enjoy Margret Cho but I think her and Rosie would try to overdo each other and then we would be reduced to Eliizabeth.
Yes, Aisha Tyler! So underrated.
However, I have to say…when is this show on? I love all the gossip on it but I think I’m watching the Price is Right when this is on.
Yes!! Samantha Bee! That’s perfect!!
Soledad O’Brien or Cheri Oteri from SNL would be funny. Its going to be interesting to see Rosie with other women. It could be annoying. She probably won’t be as good. On the other hand i was rooting to keep Star on when Rosie arrived. I wanted to see the fireworks. Star was so self absorbed. Especially since her marriage. I had Tivo just to pass through her on the view. I really can’t bare to ever watch her. She reminded me of a boss i had and she got fired too!!
to replace Starzilla Jones-Reynolds? How about a potato.
I love, love, LOVE Wanda Sykes – but, uh, I think she’s busy with film and television roles – not to mention the VIEW panel already has enough comediennes.
Aisha Tyler… or ROLONDA!!!
