What's next for Star Jones?

Categories: Morning Madness

153119__star_lAlas, the Star vs. Rosie showdown will never happen, as Ms. Jones Reynolds announced this morning on The View that she’s ending her nine-year run in July, two months before O’Donnell comes aboard the ABC chatfest to fill Meredith Vieira’s chair. Moreover, Star tells People, she didn’t jump, she was pushed. How ignominious, to be booted just because there wasn’t ego room for both her and the star of Riding the Bus with My Sister.

Ah, but don’t cry for the Princess of Payless. According to the New York Daily News, she’s already in talks with several other networks.

Whoever hires her, I think she should become that network’s chief White House correspondent, so that she can gush over Tony Snow and other administration officials the way she does over minor TV stars on the Emmy red carpet. Think about it: Who needs unconditional love more than President Bush, who is polling somewhere between Kevin Federline and MC Hammer these days? And who is more likely than Star to figure out how to make a news beat profitable? The product-placement premiums alone will save her network enough to fund the entire D.C. bureau. The resulting coverage will pull in a young female demographic that even Katie Couric’s legs can’t draw, and it’ll be funnier than The Colbert Report to boot.

It’s a win-win for everybody. Or do you have a better idea for Ms. Jones’ next job?

Goodness. She looks like Gregory Hines in drag!!!

  • Stephanie Travitsky

Thank you Chuck. Yeah, you see a little make-up is fine but, there was no need for the Kabuki paint and the Trix colored dress.
All and all me thinks that Rosie refused to take Merediths wheel without Star Jones leaving the show. If Jones was not going to leave willingly then her contract was not going to be renewed. It’s too bad though. I mean even though she does not have any taste in stylists she does have brains. Rosie while funny, does not have brains or taste in clothing. If she had brains then Tattoo would have not been a Broadway show. The score was terrific, but the script was pure fromage.

  • Stephanie Travitsky

    Correction, Taboo.

  • Peggy

“People” magazine is reorting that Star was informed her contract wouldn’t be renewed, a few days before Meredith announced her exit. I seriously doubt Rosie has the clout to dictate who is and isn’t on the panel. I think Star’s whole “bridezilla” and subsequent greed was her downfall. I’m sure Barbara Walters has already lined up her replacement, but on the off chance she hasn’t, why not Aiesha Tyler? She’s smart, funny, and well informed. Same with Wanda Sykes

  • The Other Kyle

    She looks hideous.
One step away from Michael Jackson.
    Just gross.

  • Karen

Oh man…she does look a little like Gregory Hines if he were to put on make-up. Anyhoo, regardless of how Star Jones has left the view, Quit, Fired, Run out of town…whatever. Remember that clown make up or no make up she is a very smart cookie and I you can bet your bottom dollor that Star will not be out of a job. She has something in the works, and if not, Ok…she has a LAW DEGREE people. She can always go back to law. How many people have that option???? Like I said, dont worry about Ms. Jones Reynolds..she will be just fine. And Barbara probably did get rid of her because she was waaay too much diva for her to handle, but they knew that Star was a diva to begin with. Stop acting like this is something new people…duh.

  • Fatima

No! I scheduled my classes around the Star/Rosie melee that was bound to ensue! I feel ripped off man!

  • sal

    Yes I AM a lawyah!

  • LK

Gregory Hines was much better looking.

  • Thad

    Scary Movie 5

  • Ian

She could play Divine Brown in a multi-ethnic remake of ‘Pink Flamingos.’

  • kevin

Wow,when nerds attack! It’s like some of you are in competition to say the most hateful thing about a woman you don’t know.

  • The Other Kyle

We’re not judging her character. We’re commenting on her appearance.
You don’t have to know somebody to have an opinion on how she looks.
    And her arms are ashy.

  • Jen

OK, I love Star, but she does look a hot mess in that photo. I think Star is fabulous, and you can tell that she’s just trying to enjoy her first forays out of big-girldom. She started working the Lady Godiva weave, jewelry, and more ‘fashionable’ clothes, she got a man, a dog and the ultimate wedding extravaganza (WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT—People are attacking her for it, but come on y’all, you’d do the same thing if you could…I would. Why pay for all of that?)
Drama aside, she is an intelligent and savvy woman and I’m going to miss her on ‘The View’. She and Meredith brought some balance to that gaggle of geese. I didn’t like the way the other ladies treated her. I hope that on her last episode, she gives an expletive-laced goodbye to the other ladies. That would be a dream!

    There’s always retail…

Now, Barara Walters is telling the press that SHE feels betrayed by Star.Star wasn’t supposed to make the announcement until Thursday’s show and she’s especially ticked by Star’s “fired” comments. AND SHE’S CLAIMING IT’S THE ABC brass that wanted Star gone. They’re both phonies, but I gotta give Star “props” for exposing BW for what she is.

  • angiemarie

Saying President Bush’s approval rating is around K-Fed’s and MC Hammer’s is quite an insult. An insult to MC Hammer!

  • Matt

    I second that Angie.
I was always of the opinion that Hammer was up a ways with Sir-Mix-alot, while Federline and Bush were together with Vanilla Ice…

  • Tom

I have to say that I didn’t like Star before, but I hate seeing anybody being treated the way she has been. She has been treated very unfairly by ABC. If they didn’t like the way she was acting, they could have pulled her aside and voiced their opinion, instead of just firing her.
I don’t understand how any of them could be “surprised” or “shocked” by her decision. It’s been in the news for months. And I can’t blame her. Why stay where you are obviously unwelcome, and she obviously knew she was being ousted, so why be humiliated? Why not do it on your own terms before someone does it for her?
I can’t stand Rosie O’Donnell. She’s such a self-righteous know-it-all. I appreciate her efforts for gay and lesbian rights and for children, but she’s a bully.
I am disappointed in Barbra Walters. I was a fan, but now I see she’s not loyal to her co-workers. I thought the idea behind the View was the bonding between women. This just reeks of backstabbing.
I wish Star Jones the best. I hope she moves on to better things.

In the past year, I have watched more than a healthy dose of the View, for the mere reason that one can only stand so many DNA tests on Maury. Anyway, going into this phase, I was a Mrs. JOnes-Reynolds hater, but God help me if Babs wasn’t the one I grew to despise! Not a conversation goes by where she doesn’t figure out a way to toot her own horn with the worst speaking voice on television. Please rewatch the day when Meredith announced she was leaving or the days they talked about Katie’s big move. Never once did Meredith tell that they had offered her the CBS anchor job first, but Babs dropped her own career firsts innumerable times. GAG!
Joy and Star bickered, but I don’t think it was anything either of them couldn’t handle, and I think it would have eventually been the same with Star and Rosie. Babs’ comments in the press have been transparently catty and negative since Meredith announced she was leaving. Hiring Rosie was a calculated and obvious middle finger to Star. I give Star MASSIVE credit for giving Babs a sneak attack on live television so that there wasn’t a darn thing she could do about it. When she grabbed Star’s hand for the entire time that she was talking, I was staring at the screen trying to figure out just how deep the nails were carving into her skin. Poor Elisabeth looked like she was going to have a heart attack, and Joy went out of her way to be supportive and gracious to Star. Barbara then attempted a comment that made her seem either incredibly clueless about her own show or like a shameless liar and but for the death grip around Star’s right hand, I think Star was ready to call her out on that one, too. I hope Star lets it rip the next couple of weeks. I bet the show doesn’t make it to October.

Well her career as a professional publicity stunt is off to a fantastic start! I’d like to personally congratulate Star for proving that her jealousy of the attention Meredith and Katie have gotten can only be articulated by the “Fine! I’m taking my bat and my ball and going home!” mentality. Star we know you like attention, we know you think you’re the centre of the universe, and we know that you are a lawyer. What we don’t know is why we are supposed to be care about a two bit day time talk show host who has virtually no on camera presence, no journalistic experience, and seems only concerned with scoring the spotlight. Good riddance I say!

  • Mark

She’s the second documented case of the doomed “Al-Roker-Head-Syndrome” (some post-gastric-bypass-annoying-famous-people suffer from it)
Oh, you mean this isn’t the “write a new caption” game…
Oh, ok, well then…. my advice to Star would be to simply bow out of any limelight and quietly retire early with her gay husband and save us all hours of migraines; That would be great for us, but bad for excedrin migraine.

  • Telly B

Poor Star can’t get a break…first she marries a gold-digging gay man, then her book tanks miserably on the book charts, then E! fires her, and now she loses her day job…
Maybe Kathie Lee and Star can do a reality show about faded divas and their lives post Daytime Talk Show?

  • cliff

With Star gone, who will recite meaningless bumpersticker cliches as if they were original thoughts? Who will name-drop? Who will lie?

  • Ned

Star Jones or Rosie O’Donnel? Egads, who do you root for in that turd sandwich?

  • Ryan

I am kind of sad by this… I was waiting for the SNL sketch of The View with Horatio Sanz as Rosie and Kennan Thompson as Star. Oh well, I’m sure they can still find a way to do something about this;)

  • Robin

WHO CARES? I MEAN AFTER HER WEDDINGS, STAR REALLY MADE A ASS OUT OF HERSELF

  • khia

She has a law degree but no license. She gave it up last year. And once you give it up, it’s not that easy to get back. Don’t send her back to us in law. We don’t want her!

  • TorontoTom

Okay, you’ve got Rosie’s viewer base locked up. You’ve cut your losses with the Payless Star. Now, clinch the deal by hiring Oprah’s pal Gayle King as Star’s replacement and you undoubtedly grab a whole lot of O’s loyal subjects. It’s a ratings juggernaut with an Emmy win for Daytime Host in the bag.

  • Sven

Where was this photo of Star Jones found? She looks like a crack whore in it. Does she actually look like this now? I hope not…
