NBC gets into bed with YouTube

Categories: Television

I don’t know what’s scarier: that NBC is getting in bed with YouTube or that the link to the full story has the term "autofacescan" in it. That probably means something perfectly innocuous in HTML, but I choose to see it as evidence of a cyber-conspiracy to steal my face.

Why? Because I fear the Internet, much as NBC once did. But after the "Lazy Sunday" incident of Aught Five, the Peacock has smoothed its feathers and made a deal with YouTube, the leading purveyor of Steven Seagal clips, teenage karaoke videos, and adolescent backyard wrestling spectaculars.

Nope, you still won’t be getting a free peek at NBC’s "content," which remains safely zipped inside its corporate "pants." But you will get pummeled with promos come fall, as NBC uses YouTube to push its new lineup (in exchange for an undisclosed amount of advertising). Worry not: Videos of frat dudes eating frogs and girls frolicking in their underwear will remain unmolested. NBC will be quarantined on its own YouTube channel, which will compete directly with the Brookers Network.

You know where this is going. I predict Dick Wolf’s Law & Order: Special Lip-Sync Squad will debut within six months, as soon as Dick selects a pair of PJ’s that flatter his frame and decides between "Faithfully" and "Bed of Roses."
