Who should work the red carpet with Seacrest?

Categories: Emmys, Television

173914__ryan_lOver at E!, they go through red-carpet correspondents the way Spinal Tap goes through drummers, yet the network now wants to offer the gig to an amateur. They’re running a contest where anyone may submit an audition tape; the winner gets to cover the Emmys alongside Ryan Seacrest and will get to conduct at least one celebrity interview. (I’m guessing the subject will be Teri Hatcher, as Seacrest will probably want to sit that one out.) The gig is tougher than it sounds; not only do you have to not get star-struck by celebrities in all their finery, but you also have to display even less personality than Seacrest, lest you upstage him.

After all, E! hasn’t done so well with colorful carpet correspondents. Sure, Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin, and Isaac Mizrahi were all hilarious and compelling, but their irreverence tended to embarrass the channel. An amateur, however, will be cheap, and if they say something inappropriate, they’ll be gone after one night anyway.
Still, we’d like to see to see a witty pro, in the mold of Griffin et. al., stroll the carpet and help make the pre-show coverage watchable.

I vote for Wanda Sykes. How about you?

I totally agree Wanda Sykes would be awesome!!! I wish someone would give that woman her own show, again, and this time let her take control and make it her own. She is one funny woman.

  • Thad

    Ralphie May, yeah boyeeee!

  • mike

Wanda Sykes does deserve another show. Get a bunch of monkeys to do the red carpets. Maybe then I’d watch.

    seal and seacrest… yeah

  • dma69

Forget Seacrest. He’s such a tool. Wanda Sykes. Now she would make the red carpet worth watching.

Does E! not know what kind of network they are? Do they think they’re CNN? Or even WB? They’ve got an exclamation point in their title, for crying out loud. Might as well entertain us. Drop Seacrest all together, put Wanda and Kathy on, and let the snark fly.

  • Allison

Get rid of Seacrest, bring back Kathy!! She is hilarious!

I don’t watch the E! pre-show anymore – having to endure Seacrest during the AI season is enough. If they brought Kathy back I’d watch, and while I love me some Wanda, I personally think that she is above hosting the red carpet. She needs her own show or someone in Hollywood needs to pull their head out and find a movie for her – she is too funny.

Can we just get rid of Seacrest and bring back Kathy and Isaac!!! They asked the questions we all wanted to know about.
OR— Let Isaac follow someone from getting ready to to the limo so he can ask all the important answers like,
    “Are you waxed down there?”

  • CJ

Did you see the air brush/X-men Anti-Aging thing the did on the pic of Seacret on E!.com..lol!

  • Connie

Did anyone see Wanda Sykes with Carson Daly on New Year’s Eve? She made some hiliariously un-PC comments after they showed a clip from a Johnny Carson hosted special from the 19060s. “Who would have thought all these years later there’d be a negro up here? Forty years ago I probably would’ve been the ball they dropped.”

  • Thad

Nobody but RuPaul! You betta work. No Ryan

  • CS

Umm, apparently the honchos behind E! have decided that they want the channel’s tone to just remain really lame. Ryan Seacrest is the ultimate tool, and pairing him up with some kid will make the whole thing even stupider. Honestly, what is wrong with having people with PERSONALITY do the red carpet? Because they might say something “offensive” or “crazy”? Please, that is the only thing that makes watching the red carpet bearable. The red carpet is lame already, why do the people covering it have to be too?

  • Delilah

    Bring back Steve Gmetko!

  • Delilah

    Kmetko

  • Logan

Get rid of Ryan( he has enough jobs)..no Issac( he was awful!)..bring Kathy Griffin back. Wanda would be good too!

  • Muhlyssa

    Simple. Bring back Kathy.

  • Ed

I completely agree with everyone on here and I’ve been feeling this for the past couple of seasons – Ryan Seacrest is just awful! Gary, you’re right in saying that he has no personality.
What’s up with him, why has Hollywood given him everything on a silver platter?
For those of you who live on the Westcoast near or around L.A, remember Ric Dees and how creative he was with his personalities; I’ve listened to Ryan Seacrest on KIIS and he has the one little girl that tries to do “Candid phone” – it sucks! And Ellen K? they both have their jobs because it was handed to them by someone else. (Ellen’s husband is part of Clearwater).
I can understand why they don’t bring back the Griffen, if they want celebs to visit their both, they have to be a lot nicer.

  • Miles

Ryan Seachrest? why? oh god but why? not only do they nominate the same crap every year, they have to get this guy to do the carpet. Have the Emmy people gone all suicidal this year.

  • dma69

I have to disagree about Rick Dees. He’s just as annoying as Seacrest. Now Steve Kmetko, definitely DEFINITELY bring him back.

  • Noe

I think I should co-host with Ryan. Vote for Noelle!!!

  • Anna

I seriously dont’ understand why they let go of Kathy, and then brought in Ryan Seacrest. He’s such a tool! Seriously. It makes me sick just watching him “shmooze” with celebrities. Kathy is hilarious! Over at E! no one likes Ryan either and loves Kathy… you’d think they’d listen to the people on their own message boards

  • Anna

I agree that Wanda Sykes would be great…. Ru Paul would be even funnier… whatever happened to her? She needs to make a come-back!

  • Angela

Ryan Seacrest just makes me go EEWWWWWWW…he just seems so plastic…or cardboard, yeah cardboard is more apt a description. Red Carpet duty is truly beneath her, but I think Ellen Degeneres would do an awesome job :)

  • EP Sato

All the red carpet folks seemed a little creepy to me. Isaac’s behavior was particularly rude and crossed the line. As for Seacrest, he should partner up with a mirror. okay, I stole that line from Paula Abdul.

  • GoldenGirl

I nearly fell asleep watching Ryan on the Oscars pre-show this year. It’s the most exciting entertainment day of the year, but he made it feel like the slowest, dullest place to be.
I looooved Kathy Griffin when she did the red carpet at the Golden Globes one year. Yes, it was the year that she made the jokes about Dakota Fanning being in rehab. E! actaully cut out her segments when the show was re-broadcasted. She’s just want E! needs to justify the exclamation point. Pairing Kathy with Wanda Sykes would be just wonderful.

  • california

If Kathy were brought back I would watch the E! coverage. Better yet, if Kathy hosted the Emmy’s I would actually watch the Emmy’s for once.

  • ****

Wanda is too good, but I would so watch the red carpet if she were on. Kathy Griffin is great, Isaac Mizrahi was “awesome”, Steve Kmetko is ok, I was fine with Joan Rivers. LOSE RYAN ON EVERYTHING THAT HE IS ON! Sorry, asking a person what they are wearing is not serious news.

  • Will

Kathy NEEDS to be brought back…if for no other reason then I want to hear her talk about it in her stand up. Seriously, rent “Allegedly” and hear about her hosting red carpet duties for the VH1 fashion awards.

  • RBlues

    Bring back Kathy!
