Snap Judgment: ABC's 'Betty the Ugly'

104025__betty_lAs if the imminent arrival of Preakness Day wasn’t enough to have me bouncing off my office walls this morning, I just found a promo of ABC’s new fall series, Betty the Ugly, posted on YouTube. (Catch it now before ABC makes ‘em remove it!) Sure, it kind of looks like the awkward small-screen sister of The Devil Wears Prada, but it’s a promising sign that a little Diet Dr. Pepper almost went up my nose during that scene where the guy gags at Betty’s Guadalajara poncho. With the imminently winning America Ferrera (pictured) in the title role, and Vanessa L. Williams serving the patented brand of bitchery that fit her so perfectly in A Diva’s Christmas Carol, I’m already planning to make room on my DVR. How about you?

Hey Michael, where is the Will & Grace synopsis? I didn’t get a chance to see it last night (waiting for DVD, thought it might be on here.
    L-l-love you!

I did see the preview – funny funny funny!

Yay….Vanessa got another series. Don’t know why, but she’s one of the people I always root for to do well. She’s got the talent, she just needs the breaks.

That looks pretty darn good to me. I’ll definitely give it a try. Too bad it’s on at such a crappy time. Unfortunately some of us are still living in the Dark Ages with no DVR or Tivo.

I adore America Ferrera … I guess this is a break for her, but I wish she didn’t always have to play “The Ugly.” She’s a beautiful woman. Also, the scene where she let her boss take credit for her work sort of made me want to cut myself. Wasn’t that supposed to be the part of the trailer where we saw that she did in fact have a chance? … by letting her boss steal her ideas!? wtf. The ladies from 9-to-5 would be getting out their rat poison.

I loved the spanish novela and the TV show looks like fun…..hopefully they can add more to the characters and expand on Betty’s life to mimic the novela’s charm.
Although, the lead character is not the dreamy. Maybe they can change him.
Also, they need to add more Latino actors.

America was good in Traveling Pants but why did the costume designer dress her up as Daria? “Lala la la la.”

So, does Vanessa L. Williams doing this show mean no more “Missing” on Lifetime? They ended the season with a bit of a cliffhanger and I’d love to know how that was resolved…
