[SPOILER ALERT: Mega-spoilers ahead if you haven't watched last night's Lost -- and if you haven't, why are you here?]
Okay, are we all on the same page now? Good.
My first response: Oh. My. God. My jaw was on the floor at the end of last night’s episode. After all the odd tangents (Jack has a sister? Is the bar where Ana Lucia left Jack’s dad the same place he met Sawyer?) and all the blatant plugs for spinoff product (the Hanso commercial, the unpublished novel Bad Twin that Sawyer was reading, coming soon to a bookstore near you), the last minute of the episode shocked me but good.
I guess I should have suspected that The Others let Michael go for a reason; maybe they’ve brainwashed him, Manchurian Candidate-style, so that he’d lead the castaways into an ambush. Or maybe he’s just gone completely off the reservation in his effort to rescue Walt and will do anything to spark a war — including killing two women, shooting himself in the arm, and making it look like Henry was responsible. Also, while I was expecting a death, I thought it would come in the finale.
I wasn’t expecting Ana Lucia to die, especially not when it seemed her character was becoming more complex. (Manipulating Sawyer with sex? Eww! Curbing her trigger-happy ways? Oh, the irony — if she’d followed through and killed Henry, she wouldn’t have given the gun to Michael, and she’d still be alive.)
And I wasn’t expecting two major deaths — that’s a 24 level of bloodlust on the producers’ part. Speaking of the producers, TV Guide’s Michael Ausiellohas the scoop from Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse on thedecision-making process behind last night’s kill-off. The producers sayMichelle Rodriguez had only wanted to be on the show for a year anyway,so the plan had always been to kill her off at the end of this season. The DUI had nothing to do with it, and neither did fan antipathy towardRodriguez and her character. They also deny reports that she wasdifficult on the set — so that wasn’t a factor either, they say.
As for the fate of Cynthia Watros’ Libby (there’s a slim possibilityshe could still be alive; in the preview for next week’s episode, Katesays, ”She’s dead,” not ”They’re dead”), Ausiello is sitting onthat scoop until next week, but given the recent news that Watros isshooting a CBS pilot as a ”guest star,” it’s a safe bet that Libbydidn’t survive the shooting either.
Unlike all the Ana Lucia hatas out there, I’ll miss her for herfeistiness (and her tank top). I’ll miss Libby too, especially since Ican’t see anyone else cozying up to Hurley. Damn, he really is unlucky.

Okay. I loved Ana Lucia, but did notice something kinda irritating about Michelle Rodriguez. Why she always looking at the camera with her head all crooked all the time? It’s always at a 45 degree angle, trying to look all tough 24-7. It got a little played. That said, her character brought a fire under everyone, so it was a shame to see her go.
I totally believe Michael killed them to frame Henry and to start up some kind of war with the others.
I’m okay with Ana Lucia’s death… but killing Libby seems like such a waste. We were just starting to get to know this character. Three women killed in one season. Unbelievable.
I refuse to believe Libby’s dead. She hasn’t even had a flashback yet!
See what happens when you get a DUI in Hawaii! Your days are numbered. Straighten up, or get out! We can write around you. Great episode.
I will NOT miss the tank top. Or the bomber jacket with the sleeves ripped off. Ugh.
I read somewhere that Libby is in Desmond’s flashback in an upcoming ep.
Just like any good horror movie, after the women of Lost get some–THEY DIE!!!
DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!!!
Yes, it is the same bar where Jack’s dad met Sawyer. Go back and re-watch on the Tivo as Jack’s dad opened the car door and hit Sawyer with it as Sawyer was walking into the bar.
The title of the episode was “Two For the Road”. The “For the Road” reference sure sounds like they got killed because of their drunk driving exploits, despite what the producers are willing to say publicly.
I dont know about all the haters here, but I loved Ana
Lucia she’s tough and she keeps it real,I kind of had a feeling she was gonna get killed off this season but I didnt expect it last night, she will be missed…DAMN YOU MICHAEL!!!!!!!!
michael looked shocked and horrified when he had to kill libby…i don’t think he’s been brainwashed. i believe the others made a deal with him to kill someone, and maybe specifically ana lucia, in exchange for walt. if libby is alive, she’ll be able to identify michael as the shooter…and doesn’t she have a pilot with tom cavanaugh?!
I was sad to see Ana Lucia go. I actually liked her character. She kicked butt and she wasn’t afraid to go after what she wants. I was totally caught off guard by that. For once there was no spoiler that gave us any real clues. Unlike when Shannon died, everyone seemed to have a clue that she was a goner. I still have mixed feelings about Libby. I am not toally convinced she is dead. I still have a sneaky suspicion that she is an Other and that is why she may survive and not rat out Michael. I will be VERY upset if they kill off Mr. Eko. It appears from the episode write-up that it may be Locke that hurts him?!?!? I hate that they let us get to know these characters and then they kill them off
she wasn’t my favorite character, BUT she was really starting to show all these shades and colors and was getting interesting and FINALLY sawyer got some booty on that island.
i was truly shocked at the double shooting. wow. she finally turned her life around, started feeling redeemed and bam!
Lost is back!
Do they really expect us to believe it didn’t have aything to do with drunk driving when the two culprits are executed one after the other?!?! That’s crap. I’m not condoning their behavior – but it’s not like they even hit anything! Michelle and Cynthia are in the wrong business – they should be sports stars. They don’t even have to be professional to get away with whatever they want in the public eye.
I also find it totally ironic that the Ana Lucia haters of both genders practically cream their pants over Sawyer.
What’s the difference? Ana Lucia actually succeeded in getting revenge on the guy who destroyed her life? Is it different because Sawyer was a kid when he was “wronged?” The guy Ana killed did worse – he destroyed her child’s childhood.
As for LOST without Ana – I’ll keep watching, but this had better be good…. but I am totally digging the irony that if she had just kept to her character – she’d still be alive. What would Sawyer have done?
I don’t think Libby is dead, probably just severely injured. Her story is just begining and I want to know what she was doing in that hospital! Ana Lucia was annoying, but her character provided an interesting foil to Kate, and heated up the whole Kate/Jack/Sawyer thing. For that, I will miss her.
I hope Libby is immediately dead. Her of the non-trusting looks at Hurley. But Ana Lucia, not only did I like her Latin ways. (I am latin.) And I hope the writers were not taking an political stance on immigration by killing the only interesting latin character on television right now (that’s a joke, don’t get your pantihose in a bunc people)
Anyway the only reason why I don’t wanna see Ana Lucia die right away, is because she might be the only one who knows what happenned to Jack’s father, how did he die. DID SHE KILL HIM? and who is Jack’s Sister… Claire? Kilye Minogue? Who? who?
Oh, this show is getting so fustrating to me, I hope another plane crashes and completely obliterates the survivors of this Oceanic Flight. a new plane, with more hispanics… maybe flight Mexicana 417. With a band, guitars, they can build a cantina instead of a church.
I hope you people happy…you all finally got what you wanted.
My jaw literally dropped for about 60 seconds after the finale. Totally didn’t see that coming. Libby I don’t mind dying, but Ana Lucia was the best character on the show. Michelle is such a kick-ass actress. I would rather have seen Kate or Claire go cause they are boring and way less hotter than Ana. I’m still hoping for some twist and Ana won’t be dead but until then, rot in hell michael. I want this dude slaughtered.
I’m with Tisa, Don’t kill off Mr. Eko if they do i’ll come after the producers with a stick…that means you Abrahms!
For those of you who have visited the website (thehansofoundation.org) or called the phone number from the commercial last night, you will have noticed a proliferation of references to Persephone. In Greek mythology, she is a goddess who is kidnapped from her mother by Hades and forced to live in the underground. She is eventually returned to her mother with some complications. Check out the story at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persephone
Anyway…does this sound like someone we know…Rosseau’s daughter who helped Claire escape, of course! She’s trying to leak info!
Nice tank top, but really annoying low-rise jeans. Didn’t those go out of style three years ago?
Michael has ALWAYS been my favorite character. Last night during the promo for next week… chills!
Michael kicks ass!
Just a suggestion: I’m thinking that the simultaneous DUI incidents were more of a reaction to being written off the show than a cause of it.
Libby may not be dead — she had the stack of blankets in front of her, so she could be really hurt (maybe?). Apparently Michelle Rodriguez was on a morning show and said that this was planned from the day she was hired, but somehow I think her drunk driving played a role in it.
Lost is what it is and that is FANTASTIC television. To me it is a like an epic nove or an epic poem. It is filled mystic and intrigue and makes me as a viewer actually use my brain for a higher reason than thoughless and trite television like According to Jim and CSI. LOST is clever, smart, humurous, and most importantly daring. It does nto dumb down itselfs because it knows that their audience, us, are smart enough and worthy of the challenge. The same people that complain about the supposedly slow developing plot and the like don’t realize what a prestigious show they are watching. These are also the same people that would complain if the plot was moving to fast and begging for the series not to end so quickly. Everything about LOST is unique and important even down to the throwaway lines and props. Those behind LOST are doing what they are doing because of their grand scheme…trust me if they were just throwing ideas out as they want along this would all be a mess. That is truly is not. It is a beautiful soliloquy on the evolution io humans. And if you look at LOST In that aspect they are actaully moving rather quickly. This show takes risks and WILL go down as an all time great if not the greatest human drama on TV. As for the repeats all shows with a 24 ep order have the same down time…ABC wisely chooses to air their story arcs in big chunks rather then new ep,repeat, new ep, repeat so we have successive weeks at a time to get a peek into the genius world. Don’t give up on it…
KUDOS TO ALL THOSE INVOLVED WITH LOST!!!
Man, between “Lost” and “Alias”, I had a lot of trouble getting too sleep last night after such an adrenline rush. 2 shows…4 deaths…that was intense.
Libby is not dead…yet. She will be in a coma until the very last minute and will wake up and tell them Michael killed Ana, not Henry. THEN Libby will die and move on to her “pilot”. Of course, it will be too late and everyone will be caught in the “other” trap…fade to LOST for the summer.
Michael didn’t need to do anything to get them riled up for a war – Jack had already left to go get the guns.
This episode was really interesting:
1. The possibility of Jack’s step sister being Clair/ or the lady looking a bit like Kate’s mom? wow.
2. The possibility of Michael either converting to/blackmailed by the Others? wow.
3. The possibility of A-L and Sawyer doing the humpty hump??? wow.
4. The possibility of fake Henry coming to get Locke, as he is one of the good ones? wow.
5. what about this one… the possibility that someone on the island killed Jack’s father??? That’s far fetched, but this is L O S T
UNTIL next week!!!!
Best. Ending. Ever. I was totally not expecting it… at all! I wish I had tvo’d it because I just couldn’t believe it happened. I was with a friend and we were both speechless! They sure got us good.
