iTunes: Still just 99 cents of pure convenience

Categories: Music

This is just a news flash to assure you that iTunes will remain 99 cents-per-song, despite calls from the industry for a graduated pricing structure (where new songs would cost more than catalog titles).

So rest assured, America: "Weird Al" Yankovic’s Even Worse album will still cost the same as the new Flaming Lips album. You will continue to be ripped off at the current rate.

$.99 too rich for your blood, Scott? You just said Itunes fought to keep new material the same. They aren’t going to lower the price on the oldies. These are the same record companies that gave you the $17.99 CD. We should be saying “Thank you, Itunes”.

I’m with Mike… “ripped off” is the correct term to use to describe iTunes. For once, a corporation took a stand to NOT raise prices. Anyone who chooses to purchase the catalog offerings of Weird Al has only one person to blame for wasting his money… himself.

sorry, meant “not the correct term”

I agree with the comments below. Good for iTunes and great for us. If the record industry has proven anything, it’s that they are all about gouging consumers for as much money as they can. That’s why they got rid of single CDs in the first place; to force people to pay $13.99 and up for an album that usually turned out to have only one decent song. And now that there has been a successful (legal) format for people to buy the music (or songs) they want, the record industry immediately wants to up the price to make more money. I have an idea for the record companies to make more money, produce better music and develop better artists.

Clearly these comments were made by people who do not watch “the office”. Per Dwight Shroot, ya’ll can get songs at Russian websites for $.12 a song. They claim to have the rights to this stuff on their site, and $.12 is a lot cheaper than $.99.
Of course, both are a lot more expensive than FREE, and maybe Scott’s one of them folks who was downloading at that price back before Napster was shut down.

know one spends retail on a new cd you can get them on sell.
