I enjoy the Dixie Chicks’ vocal harmonies, I appreciate their songwriting craft, and I applaud their unrepentant defiance. But I’m annoyed by their newfound pretentiousness. Read the full post.

“The whole episode was smoke and mirrors, much ado about nothing.” Ned.
I believe that as well. I think where we differ is in who is to blame for for that. The chicks fanned the flames more than anyone else. Heck they went on a world wide tour dressed in Punk Costumes wearing anarchy symbols. It was a total joke. Right now this issue is over 3 years old, yet is the center of the chicks new album. They have another song on their album that bashes the intire town of Lubbock. I think it makes them look whiners and haters. THEY need to get over themsleves. Practice the tolerance they require from others and move on go back to the novelty that made them stars in the first place. They have mariginalized the phenonenal talent of Emily and Martie, for “Style”.
The song has been out for a month(?)and is barely hanging on to the charts. AC or Country.

Dixie Chicks are my HERO. Strong women and have the means to state their opinion. They just had a wider audience. I wish i could have said it out loud like they did. Thank you Dixie Chicks and continue to speak your mind. This is America after all, freedom of speech. Unless Bush wants to be lable the next Saddam Hussain, and shut us all up.

Figgins, Destiny’s Child are as talented as Ashlee Simpson. Dixie Chicks can leave DS in the dust

  • Ned

Actually, where we differ is that you said they made “anti-American” comments, they did not. They said they didn’t like the president, that is not an anti-American statement.
Right wing commentators made them a whipping boy, and made a big deal out of a pretty mild comment. It was just utter nonsense, of course the Chicks responded to it in their concerts with a defiant attitude.
Ah well, this isn’t getting us anywhere, if you don’t like them, cool enough. Just lay off the anti-American crapola, that’s all I ask.

Seriously as someone below me said this is beating a dead horse. It was 3 years ago and it’s crystal clear now the Chicks’ fans absolutely wont take them back.
Ladies, get over yourselves! You aren’t martyrs; far from it. Although you had every right to voice your dislike for Bush, you knew this was going to piss off your fan-base.

Ned, Natalie said they were swept up in the anti-american sentiment they were experienceing while traveling in Europe and thats why she made the comment.
    These are HER words:
“the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding.”
“it was a joke and it wasn’t planned. And it was really funny at the time. It got lots of cheers, and that’s what it was meant for.”
She later went on to explain that she didnt even think it would get back to the United States.
” We were going into this hotel…and he [the Dixie Chicks' manager] got a call … he’s pacing back and forth. “Oh, no!” You know, we’re automatically going “What? What happened?” And then he says, you know, he gets off the phone and I was like, “What? What happened?” “Well, the AP picked up what was said the other night… But don’t worry, it’s going to blow over in three days.” And I looked at him and I go, “No, it’s not.” He goes “Yes, it is, yes. Don’t worry about it.” You know, giving the old manager spiel. And I said, “Oh, I don’t think so.”
She wanted to win favor with them , so they would inturn financially support her and lavish her with adoration. She pandered to them and took aim at the President.
I beleive had she felt the crowd that night was anti-tooth fairy, like she clamis they were anti-american, she would have announced her shame of teeth and faries.
Everything that happened in the wake of her comments was just spin, including the scab picking she is now doing 3 years later.
She is the Varuca Salt of our time and if you do not agree with her, or financially support her, she throws tantrums. At least we can be thankfull she kept her clothes on this go around.

  • Figgins

Tesaba, obviosuly you do care as its the only point out of several that I have made that you want to debate.

  • tesaba

Just making sure the correct info out of all the statments you have made gets posted….hate to see people get things wrong.

  • Figgins

Tesaba, dixichicksfans.net was my source. The same info can be found on several “Fact” sites about the chicks.
I have no time for dishonest people like yourself. Im done with you.

  • Jordy

this is a joke right? Figgins? Ned? Tesaba? what are you sitting in front of your computer refreshing the page every 30 seconds to see if you can argue some more about….the BIRTHPLACE…..of these girls? how the HELL does it matter where they were born? this is really, deeply, sad.

Let me get this straight: If a celebrity gets in trouble with the law, most fans are willing to stand by them at all costs. But if a celebrity has different political views than you, that’s a reason to boycott? The only crime the Dixie Chicks are guilty of is speaking their minds. Which last I checked was not a bad thing. Just something for everyone to think about.
