So I’m listening to Show Your Bones, the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album now streaming on AOL Music. And I’m noticing that, even at the very apogee of its intensity, it blends perfectly with just about any Youtube clip I play over it. I’m not sure what this means, except that Bones makes great background music for the montage of your life. And that it sounds weirdly apropos behind ostensibly incongruous excerpts of The Family Guy.
It might also mean that nothing here, outside of a few tendentious-sounding shrieks from Karen O, really asserts itself. Now, I don’t fault a band for mellowing, being a fundamentally mellow and incurably lame person myself. (You’ll find Maps multi-starred on my iPod, whilst Art Star lies fallow.) But I guess I’m not feeling the passion. These songs all feel like they crest early and subside.
But they sound great behind a clip of Inuyasha.
Grade-wise, I’m leaning towards two Yeahs out of a possible three. With the possibility of a half-Yeah if there’s a Conan skit going simul.

Very good album! Is actually better than Fever To Tell. Karen O’s the man!
Perhaps you should listen to the album, not a inherently lo-stream. Perhaps you should also stop watching the family guy whilst listening to it. Perhaps you should give it a chance, it’s a farily rewarding piece of work despite the sonic upgrade and compressed sheen. “Turn Into” is too good to listen to while watching cartoons.
Wednesday, Pugsley and Pubert – the music years.
these guys look so deep and important.
i bet they spend their days at the coffee shop scoffing at people wearing abercrombie.
Uh. Ok.
This is very strange. Entertainment Weekly gave the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s album “Show Your Bones” and A-. Now, someone whom writes for EW on Popwatch is dissing the album? I’m so confused. You guys are kind of dumb. Oh well. “Show Your Bones” is a great album. I was on the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s myspace and all the fans on there seem to really like it. The reviews on amazon.com are all good. I think it’s a really great piece of work. It has more upbeat stuff and some mellow. I recomend it.
I definitely agree with evan and alex. Show Your Bones rocks out, no doubt about it. I can’t get Phenomena out of my head. To be fair, though, the piece is called “Snap Judgement,” not “Planned and Slaved Over Judgement” so I think we can all forgive Scott Brown for this one misstep.
