Move over, 'Teletubbies'! It's 'Wonder Pets!'

15256__wpets_lPerhaps nothing will ever replace the trippy-creepy "charms" of Teletubbies. But for my precious wasted-time, I prefer zoobing out to Linny, Ming-Ming and Tuck, the opera-singing troika of Wonder Pets! This, friends, is a thinking slacker’s kids show. Or, more to the point, it’s a show that’s less likely to turn your kids into future slackers.

Wonder Pets! was brought to my attention by a friend who loves opera and guinea pigs. Wonder Pets!, you see, has both. Yes, it’s opera. Well, operetta. For full-blown opera, you’d probably need larger animals. But they are wee wonders, these: There’s Linny, a guinea pig with leadership instincts; Ming-Ming, a duckling with good intentions; and Tuck, a steadfast turtle. They fly around the world in a Frisbee, saving animals in jeopardy; then they celebrate with song and celery. Actually, "song" doesn’t do the Wonder Pets justice: These cutout-animated fuzzies have friggin’ leitmotifs. The music supervisor is a Grammy-nominated producer (Jeffrey Lesser), and the composer, Larry Hochman, just won a Tony for orchestrating Spamalot. Guest composer orchestrators include young Turk music theater savants like  Jason Robert Brown (Parade) and Robert Lopez (Avenue Q). The results fall somewhere between elementary Mozart and elementary Gilbert and Sullivan. And the lyrics are really quite cunning — the meter’s actually rather complex, this being recitatif and all. And the trio’s globe-trotting, Thunderbird-ish adventures are quite compelling.

"Good day to you, Emu/We want to help this kangaroo!"

What can I say? It makes me unaccountably happy.

Why did I just read that entire thing in a british accent?

Thanks for giving a pop watch spot to a kids show!!! I have loved Linny since he was just a wee three or so minute spot on Nick Jr. He looks so cute in his space suit. Oh, and my four year old digs them too!

OK, my daughter was home sick and watching this on TV in my bedroom, where I was working from home on my computer. When the “WonderPets” get their assignment, they start singing their little “operetta” and the duck (Ming-Ming?) ALWAYS sings “This is SEWIOUS” in every one. After about 6 episodes and 12 “This is SEWIOUS” I was ready to vomit but it was stuck in my head. AAAAARRRGGGGH.

My 2 year old loves the Wonder Pets. We make sure we watch the show every day before lunch. It’s a pretty cool show and because the “episodes” are only 10 minutes long, it totally works for my 2 year olds very short attention span!

My 2 year old granddaughter and I (grandpa) happened to stumble on Wonder Pets, while suffer channels looking for a good childrens show, and we found it! It’s the best show on T V for kids. Every time the phone rings my granddaughter says “animal in trouble”. Very cute and well done.
How can I get Wonder Pets items her birthday is coming up.

It’d be good to say I had a younger sibling or so who likes it. But I am crazy about it. Anyone know where to find the themesong? Mail me.

I babysit my 2 and 4 year old Grandchildren, so we were so anticipating the Wonder Pets. We just LOVE THEM! Even my 9 year old knows the song. My 2 year old knows all the words and yells out “this is SEWIOUS”
The show is great, we just need more of them. This teamwork thing is really working in my home!

My niece Livvy ADORES the Wonder Pets! OK, I confess, I love watching them, too! What a refreshing show where the focus is on helping others with teamwork! How “wefweshing” as Ming-Ming would pwobably say! Kudos to the producers and to Nick, Jr. for a “sewiously” AWESOME program that uses real music, fun animation, and an altruistic approach for a show that appeals to adults and children! GO WONDER PETS! YAAAAY!!!

I love this show! My 3 year old loves it too! He loves the music and the singing. He was in the car the other day singing abuot the “Baby unicorn. . .with it’s little horn. . stuck in a tree.” It was adorable. When will they come out with Birthday items? My son’s birthday is in August and wants a Wonder Pets Party!!
