HeadScratcher No. 33: Six degrees of tension headache

153717__th_lWow! I’ll be straight with you, children: These six-degrees-of-separation items are going to be a challenge. We may have to rethink this. Nearly 400 of you replied, as there really is no incorrect answer, is there? That’s a lot of reading for your blogfather’s old eyes. My glasses are already Coke-bottle thick, and nobody needs to see that.

But I was heartened by the enthusiasm with which you replied, so we’ll do more. We just might make the questions a little bit specific. And we might limit the answer period to cut down on the number of responses.

(Click the jump to see the answer…)

That said, you did well. Here are the two answers I came up. A fewof you were freaky mind-readers and got one or the other. So many, though, that there’ll no be no list of names this week– sorry!

The first, the shortest:

Laurence Olivier was in Term of Trial
with Terence Stamp, who was in My Boss’s Daughter
with Ashton Kutcher (pictured).

The second, a little more creative:

Laurence Olivier was in Dracula
with Frank Langella, who was in Good Night, and Good Luck
with George Clooney, who was in Ocean’s Eleven
with Bernie Mac, who was in Guess Who
with Ashton Kutcher.

We’ll put a thinking caps on and see if we can come up with something interesting for Friday — stay tuned!

Mickey, Mickey, Mickey…. I submitted (on Sunday) Kutcher-”Bobby” (2006) with Anthony Hopkins, Hopkins was in “The Bounty” with Olivier. Seems its the fastest (2) connection. What gives?

  • John Lockamy

Peggy, your two degrees of separation is the same amount of degrees as the Terrance Stamp example given.

  • Karla

The real answer is dull – Ashton has a Sir Larry number of 2. Snore!!!
    Here’s more fun:
If you want to do it only with leads and strange or lowbrow flicks (with a special Shatner seasoning), then Ashton was in Dude Where’s My Car with Seann William Scott, who was in Dukes of Hazard with Johnny Knoxville, who was in A Dirty Shame with Selma Blair, who was in The Deal with Christian Slater, who was in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country with William Shatner, who was in Shoot or Be Shot with Harry Hamlin, who was in Clash of the Titans with Sir Laurence Olivier.
    Yeeha!

    personally i liked my connection
Olivier in Hamlet which featured Peter Cushing. Cushing was in Star Wars which featured Mark Hamil. Mark Hamil was in Jay and Silent Bob strike Back (as the C**kknocker) which featured Jason Lee. He starred in Mallrats with Ethan Suplee (his Earl costar) who was in Butterfly Effect with Kutcher. I know it took six people, but I thought it was creative nonetheless.

John, You are correct, but not only was it a connection of 2, it was pretty clever, don’t ya think? No, I’m not bragging, its just that I worked pretty hard to connect them.

  • Lisa

They both acted with Mia Farrow too. Terror in the Aisles with Olivier and Coming Soon with Kutcher

  • Jakeem

Do we know for sure that Ashton Kutcher is actually in “Bobby”?

  • Christopher

I got the General Zod connection… but just before that, I had submitted this one:
Olivier and Sally Kellerman in “A Little Romance”
Kellerman and Elliot Gould in “M*A*S*H”
Elliot Gould & Bernie Mac in “Ocean’s 11″
Bernie Mac and Kutcher in “Guess Who”

  • Mikey

Kutcher was in A Lot Like Love with Amanda Peet.
