'Spider-Man 3': The web slinger will have his arms full

161824__banks_lLooks like the amazingly polyamorous Spider-Man may give Wilmer Valderrama a run for his money. Elizabeth Banks (pictured, last seen as the sexually supercharged bookstore clerk who threatens to deflower Steve Carell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin) tells MTV that, in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) may prove himself quite the (wait for it) swinger! (Yes, we do get paid by the pun.)

Banks will play Betty Brant, Daily Bugle staffer and secretary to cantankerous J. Jonah Jameson, the Spidey-hatin’ editor in chief. In the comic, she’s one of Peter’s many loves, a group that also includes Gwen Stacy. Well, she’s in the movie, too, played by Bryce Dallas Howard. (Does she still get her neck broken, as she does in the comic? Would Ron Howard even allow such a thing?) Banks says she and Parker get a little closer in this installment. Even with eight arms, Spidey would have trouble keeping up. After all, he’s still got his main squeeze, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). And I don’t think this is what M.J. meant when she said, "Go get ‘em, tiger."

Nothing new on Topher Grace or that mysterious black suit.  Nope, that’s all the Spidey news from the World Wide Web. (Sorry, I’m a little short on rent this month.)

Um, fangs for reading?

Anyone remember the banks scene in Spider Man 1? With the camera all at half mast and dude saying “I’m a photographer”? So wonderfully awkward. So glad to see Raimi in charge of this one and a possible Venom appearance.
Changing subjects a bit. Anyone think it’s funky that a red head with green eyes would have the name “Mary Jane”? Were they smoking something other than “benson and hedges” in the Marvel Bullpen them days?
    ‘Nuff Said!

Betty Brant was never that big of a love interest for Peter. Matter of fact, I don’t remember them being connected in that way at all ever, and I’ve got hundreds of Spidey comics in my basement. Yup, I’m a basement Spidey fan.
I think Betty is more likely there to offset Jameson’s fireball attacks on Spidey.

Way way way back at the beginning of Spider-Man (I’m talkin’ early sixties, kids), Betty and Peter were boyfriend/girlfriend – his first in fact. Then something having to do with her brother and some gangsters broke them apart and she landed in the arms of a Daily Bugle reporter by the name of Ned Leeds who eventually became a supervillain called the Hobgoblin, (a second rate Green Goblin) and who eventually was knocked off as well, leaving poor Betty a widow.
Yes, I officially know too much about Spider-Man…

    To Ep Sato:
Dude they were smoking something alright, who would have had the balls to publish things like Hulk, Fantastic Four, X-men and Spiderman in the 60’s…all hail the Mary Jane.

Elizabeth Banks has been playing Betty Brant since the first Spiderman movie.

BTW, i’m assuming this was in intentional, but in this article title it says “Daily Planet”.
that’s where Clark Kent works. Different universe. Would have made more sense to say Daily Bugle where Betty and Peter actually work.
    I’m just saying….
